Am I the only person who believes AVATAR is overrated?

    fuck yeah...

The most tragic thing of all is that someone gained a shitload of money from this old "plot".

Anyway. Apart from the ripoff, the 3D effect was good, but it could definately be better. (considering the money that was spent on it and the advertising it got)

Have you seen a movie with better 3D effects yet? Imo the 3D effect was incredible and made a huge different in the experience, something which hasn't happened before in a film with 3D effects.

Avatar wasn't supposed to be funny though. And I don't get how all those people go wild about the weak plot, it's not like this is the benchmark of movie art. Go the fuck watch some independent, Hitchcock, Kitano, Fassbinder or whatnot cinema, that's what I do when I want story. There's absolutely no need to ask for story in a movie like Avatar.

I haven't seen Monsters vs. Aliens but I don't think computer animated movies and real films should be compared in terms of 3D effects.

I haven't read all the posts here but to me Avatar was like a glorified Disney cartoon.

I say cartoon because it felt like it was more geared towards children. The acting wasn't anything special either and the plot is cliche by all admission. It was a re-imagining of Pocahontas perhaps.

Some say the environments were awesome etc.

Well if you've been playing any 3D games you'd get that "been there, done that" feeling, especially because of the heavy use of CGI.

In the end, 3D or not it didn't feel relevant or realistic, it was just a fairy tale for kids.

I watched Avatar on Blu Ray and, yes, it is over-hyped. But then again, all media that receives this much attention generally becomes over-hyped.

It is an enjoyable film but it's nothing ground breaking. I'm sure it's cool to watch in 3D, but I'm not going to spend a few grand just to watch this and play WipEout in 3D.
