In case you haven't noticed/Realized. I'm a writer. For whatever reason I'm a fictionalized version of myself on line. Plus I mentioned a while back I was thinking about doing a British Crime Novel (which I might get to sooner or later) and then we had my Mega Man 9 project that I only got as far as designing (quite poorly I might add) 4 robot masters.

Anyways, I've been working a movie Scripts for about 15 years no and while I have Great Characters, I can't seem to get them in a good story because I rely too much on Humor and don't do enough storytelling.

Maybe Anime has rotted my brain or something. But While I was working on my Christmas list the idea hit me that maybe these characters I have might work better in a Comic book than as a film or video game.

I'm a huge fan of Batman (in paticular the animated Series) so I put the Frank Miller Batman collections on the ole Xmas list as well as the Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum. Just them being considered the best they might inspire me.

Anyways all these paragaphs and no point. Whole reason I'm mentioning all this is I don't really know how Comics are written. I never really looked into the comic creative process and how it differs from Novels, Flims and the like.

Also while I'm at it. I've been wanting to read Marvel Civil War, Preacher, The recent version of Sandman and Ronin How are those?

Your writing ability looks as though it would be best suited to a comic book.

I'm not sure if that's a complement or an insult or both

Writing a comic book starts, like everything in the book/film sector, with a script. Write down your ideas, the flow of the story, important notes for each chapter and so on. If necessary, do some historic/geographic research in case your stories are taking place in a country that has a background worth mentioning or including into the comic. A good example for that is for instance Don Rosa.
Once finished you do the layout, calculate the number of panels and pages and start finishing the definite text for the speakbubbles & drawing the comic.

So long for a 'serious' answer...

now now I never considered doing this until last night.

The thing is with my characters I have good characters I just don't really know what medium best suits them.

But seriously, may I suggest RPG Maker XP? Thats the medium I'm thinking about using for some characters I have thought up in a story. A Comic book may work out as well, too, though. I've never read comic books before, other than like a handful of them. A good compelling story would be hard to portray in a video game, I think, however. For my characters and my idea of the game, it would work best as a comic book or a cartoon, otherwise you'd do a lot of watching if it were a video game.

The Red Badge of Courage was written by a guy who was never in the military yet critics everywhere thought it was written by a guy who actually fought in battles before because of his use of imagery...yeah, I'm not comparing GoH's writing to his, but thats not a very good argument...

We can answer this fairly easily. GoH, have you ever visited Britain? Any experience of the place outside of movie villains and whatever it is you're taught about the civil war at school?

The format you write them in is similar to how you'd write a movie script, except you say what panel each action or portion of dialog is in. So it would be like this:

    Page 1

    Panel 1:

It's a dark and dreary night in Gotham city. Batman is buying a hotdog but doesn't have any money

    Hot Dog Guy

    That will be $4.50

    Batman

Four fifty for a freakin' hot dog? What are you, drugs! I invoke the superhero code of getting cool shit without having to pay for it. Eat me.

    Panel 2:

The hot dog man's muscles begin to spaz out like the incredible hulk. He grabs batman by the head and plants his foot in his ass.

    Hot Dog Guy

You've ripped me off for the last time Dark Knight!

    Etc.

Then after you write it, it's a good idea to do rough little sketches of how you want each panel to look, so you can give an idea to whoever is going to draw it for you as to what you have in mind. Actually even if you're planning on drawing it yourself it's still a good idea.

There's tutorials out there, just do a few googles.

    They're all alcoholics?

Hmm, well I don't want to rain on anyone's parade - I'm all for encouraging people to do what they want to do, but be realistic. Think about what style of writing you want to do - genre and field (e.g. movies, comic books). Research that. And, of course, consider whether you're cut out for it. How were your English grades in school? If you were top of the class, you'll probably be great. If you got poor grades, that doesn't necessarily mean you'd never do it, just that you weren't a natural and would struggle.

As a published writer, I will give you some advice. Firstly, research the field you want to go for (e.g. comic writing) and practice, practice, practice! Maybe write a web comic, see how that goes. It would be a good way to get your foot in the door were you considering making a career of it. However, I have to say that you need to work on the basics - grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure.

If he has some money lying around he can hire some guy at deviantart to draw his stuff.

On the other hand, he did made a good choice: that genre is perfect for pretentious, badly written and overall boring shit.

Seriously, the whole noir story about guy/cop/PI gone bad 'cause somebody killed his gf/wife&kids/buddy is so overused that it seems every crap writer/artist out there is trying to come up with the next Dark Knight or Sin City...
