I'm not going to be an asshole to GOH anymore, unless he realllyyyy deserves it. Not worth it.

It's not about being an asshole, it's about telling the truth. If your written English is this scrappy, you're not cut out to be a script writer. I can't draw for shit so I'll never be a comic book illustrator, and I'm hopeless at learning languages so I'll never be a translator. Be honest about your abilities.

based on GoH's quote in Alchy's thread, you really should just work on the basics.

Yeah, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but if GoH's writing in his comics is as bad as his writing in his forum posts, all of his characters will sound autistic and slow as well...

Damn you guys, be a little more mean why don't you.

I always encourage people to be creative. The only way you're ever going to make something good is to do it, and practice.

John, don't listen to these fools, do what you're called to. There's always gonna be someone out there who doesn't like it (which also means there will be someone who DOES like it.)

I have my own pathetic little comic that no one reads, but every now and then I get email from someone who likes it, it makes it all worth it.

I do! You pull off that style of humor really well, when it usually annoys me. I can't stand stuff like Jonas Vasquez or whatever he is does, but your style is somewhat similair and I love it!

If you haven't read Preacher and Sandman, you're missing two of the best series of the 90s; and the same for Ronin, but in the 80s XD

I started the story layout, I have 2 chapters done and I have gotten feedback. Honest feed back becuase the people I sent them too wouldn't spare my feelings if it sucked.

So far so good as far as feedback goes.

Ronin and The Watchmen are on the way

On one hand I have it coming but on the other it's over maybe 3 or 4 posts I did during a bad time in my life.. They really should let things go.
But yeah, I do like your comic It's almost along the lines of what I want to do with my stuff.

Oh and to answer the unanswered questions from earlier, Yes I have been to England it was a while ago in early 97 for a week but I have been.

Honestly I don't know what advice to give you.

I like comics, but financially speaking the genre is dead, or dying at least, so you won't be landing a good job with this.

Well, just saying that everyone is an amateur at first. If you're going to write something, then just do it, and if it comes out crappy write another one, and improve upon it. I'm a firm believer that most people have artistic talent that just needs to be developed.

I don't know, I'm just getting into Comics myself. My Friend Tim is more serious about it than I am but he's really lost.

His Comic is about some Antrhomorphic Artic Fox that's almost a Demigod.

So, does your friend make these for children, or does he think Adults will take it seriously?

I mean, come on, a Demigod Fox? Does he also have a Deviantart account with pictures of his Mary Sue characters, too?

So you want to be poor forever huh. Comics don't pay shit, making games doesn't pay shit.

Get an advertising job or something and do the others as a secondary profession.

    What's it called?

All too true... Even if one were to manage to break into the comics biz, it's just a job like any other, with deadlines, bosses, and the usual general annoyances.

Of all the independent comic creators I've met, I don't think any of them are "rich." Several have been well off though. But you know, if it were about money then yeah, I'd get a job photoshoping pictures of broccoli or some bullshit (which is not to say I'd never do such work...)

Right now I do webdesign for some pretty big companies (just finished one for Jaguar/Land Rover,) which includes all the graphics. There is a Graphics department in the company, but no one goes to them anymore, they come to me. It's nice to know one's position is somewhat secure in this day and age. But it's not artistically fulfilling, and if I ever manage to work my way into a position that allows that I'd leave the security in a second.

But you know, it's a business, like anything else. The environment out there is actually very, very good for independent comic book creators. You can do things today that wasn't possible 15 years ago. Used to be if you wanted to print some books the minimum was thousands and took a huge capital investment. Nowadays theres companies out there that will print a few hundred, or even one at a time, or you can just have it online and potentially reach millions.

So anyway... random bullshit is over... just wanted to say it's not completely hopeless.

It's an idea I'm sitting on some good characters and stories. they're hard to explain If you Make Travis in No More Heroes a Disgraced pastor and cross him with Dante you'd only be scratching the surface. If you Cross Ryu Hayabusa with Duke Nukem you have a basic idea about the other character as well.

Tim should know this. As much as I encourage him. I don't think his idea is going to go mainstream. (Mine has potential too but I doubt it)

He calls his story Ren and he's very secretive about it like it's the next big thing. The Idea is unique but He's more or less aiming to appeal to furries, and yeah just furries. I think he tossed in "Otaku" as well. so in essessce a VERY small minority of a small minority will find this appealing.

If anything I want to help him broaden the appeal of it. I was going to show him this thread but he'd be pissed if he knew I spilled anything about his story.

The Kid needs some direction but I can't squash his dreams.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Just because he isn't experienced in comic or British crime lit writing doesn't mean it won't be good. If he was it may be just like every other formulaic bullshit out there right now. It's always the people OUTSIDE of the mainstream who introduce or push new art or ways to look at things. Not saying this is the case for GoH but also, not saying it isn't.

Honestly, if someone has a dream to fulfill, don't fucking stop them from it. And even if you FAIL and FAIL big time, don't worry, just get right back up and follow another dream. Life is about fulfilling dreams and making things happen to best suit you. I know I've dogged on GoH in the past, but honestly, this applies to everyone. Don't let ANYBODY detract you from your dream if you're serious enough about it.

    Make it happen.

EDIT: Also guys, that's what editors are for. I've seen novels written by some of my favorite authors and sometimes the editor doesn't catch a mistake (or sometimes a lot) and there are spelling errors and such. People are fallible.

I have no idea. Which is why I said he needs direction his drawings are however really good I won't link to his DA for fear of you guys spaming him but here are some of his best stuff that I uploaded to a safer photobucket account.

If you think they suck or are childish keep the comments to yourself. Also I got him Okami for Christmas so hopefully it might inspire him to change his mind.

    He's only 17 BTW
