I personally have never soldered so I have only used no solder mods or exploits to mod xbox consoles. I have recently heard that a 128mb xbox can run Virtua Cop 3. I have wanted to play this game since I heard it was announced and figured a 128mb xbox would be cheaper and less space consuming then getting the real chihiro board/cabinet. My question is does anyone know where/who can I get either a 128mb xbox or one made for me. I currently have 2 functioning xboxs which are 1.4 and 1.6. I have around 3 broken ones in my closet which range from 1.0-1.2. All of them either have bad power boards or dead dvd drives.

So if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

There are no XBoxes that can currently run Chihiro titles that I'm aware of.

As I have shown on my site, Virtua Cop 3 runs perfectly on an Xbox with 128mb. No other titles work properly though.

As for obtaining one, buy a debug kit, or buy a modified board or have one modded. There are talks of people willing to do some for the boards here.

What would be better?, getting a debug kit or getting a regular board modded? Can any retail board be modded or only certain ones?

Know anyone specificly who can either mod a board or has a debug kit to sell?, Also, would the debug kit need to be modified in any way to run the game or will it launch it from xdk launcher?

Doesn't really matter. For your purposes, you are probably best with a modded, simply because if you don't need a debug kit, no need to have on. Both kits should run it fine, not sure if the retail game patch is needed or not, didn't bother to try without (although it shouldn't be, since it runs on a stock DVT3 without issue). Any retail board 1.0-1.5 can be modded

An XBox modded to have 128mb of RAM is also cheaper than a debug kit.

I'll have to finish installing the last RAM chip into one of my xboxes and give this a shot.

I am thinking I will probably go more the route of getting the debug Xbox console since, xbox is one of my favorite consoles of all time and I wouldnt mind adding a piece such as that to my already large Xbox collection. Someday I might considering trying to do the Mods myself if I can find some cheap xbox's that I wouldnt mind loosing incase of mistakes.

Of course the dream would be to own a real Virtua Cop 3 upright arcade cabinet that could easily swap disc and dongle with House of the Dead 3, but thats another story entirely.

Yours is probably a 1.6 and if it is it cannot be upgraded at all. The only way to upgrade the rest from 64mb to 128mb is to drop in 4 RAM chips. There is no single IC method possible.

    It's a Xbox 1.0 with X2.5035 bios.

Xbox is connected through RGB, no component. I guess this is the problem, just googled and some say you have to use component video. can someone confirm this ?

you shouldnt have to use component... the xboxs will work with all the cables it supports except vga you need a special bios for that iirc.

That is the case for normal games, but not for Chihiro games. I am fairly certain that I read that component cables are the way to go (I don't use anything but component cables so I wouldn't know).

Frosty's VGA bios is basically RGB over component. The LM1881 chip does the syncing and VGA magic, the bios sets the colors in the right tint and includes hacks to force 480p and reset the GPU after every application run. It should be 100% compatible with everything 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. I haven't come across an instance where the VGA bios has not cut it.
