So the majority of Windows and Linux users aren't mindless idiots with equally stupid convictions? I didn't know.

'Fucktard' is the most beautiful word I have ever read. Thank you for this entertainment ;)

But yeah, how on Earth do Apple make these people so religious about it?!

Some quotes from a diehard Apple fanboy I've known since I was a kid (all from today):

"If Apple launches new iPods today as well - I'm going to freak!"
"So excited for today and I can barely contain myself!"
"I woke up early just to read all of the blogs and early morning "pre event" talk! I've been waiting for this day for two years!"
"The Apple Online Store is down!!!!"
"Launch Day for me is refreshing apple.com every 3 minutes, refreshing theverge.com and engadget.com every 3 minutes, posting lots of status updates. Playing loud music."

Person 1 (whose Facebook picture is the Apple logo):Lol so you were ready for the iPhone 5 a few weeks after the iPhone 4 launch?
Person 2 (the fanboy in question): Of course!

There you have it folks. Today is placed on the same exact level as the announcement of candidacy for any President/Prime Minister/<insert title here>, who is going to be the next pope, who wins the World Cup/Super Bowl, and enough that it supercedes any and all events more interesting than taking a dump first thing in the morning. I can't fathom how a new iPod being announced is "freak out" worthy but I think Microsoft killed my ability to get excited over most things with Halo 2.

One last quotation, here is me obviously troll baiting the entirety of my Facebook "friends":

Me: "I'll wait for the iPhone 5S+."
Him: "What are you currently using?"

Majority of Windows users probably is people who aren't that knowledgable but Linux i'll disagree with. It's only a small amount of freetards that run around with the rms stuff.

there were lots of touch interfaces for Amiga too, made for subways museum and such, ages ago.

i think the only thing apple was first ever was in making a buyer feel like in a religion.

My mother just bought an ipad, so the end is coming.
If my mother likes something, it's jumped the shark.

Old people are buying apple and it's reliance on being fashionable over functional will bite them in the ass big time.

I was beginning to think I was the only one that noticed that.

The "mindless idiots" are a big reason I moved away from apple. I still love my ipod classic, but thats as far as it goes, I don't even use macs anymore (though I do have a few old ones around I like to have because theyre special to me)

Plus, I'm actually very happy running linux on a pc, I had doubts when I reformatted the drive with windows on it but its working out pretty well for me as my sole OS.

I haven't been able to verify elsewhere but according to ABC News tonight it costs Apple just $8.00 to build the iPhone.

Umm, Screw that over hyped and overpriced crap. Apple today is every bit as bad (or worse) than MS was perceived to be during the 90's.

BTW: Here is my favorite part of the whole Xerox PARC, Apple, MS saga.

In the same respect? No way. Firstly, you're talking about a single product rather than a whole brand. Windows is always Windows. If you said Microsoft, fair enough. Maybe there are some people that just HAVE to have a Microsoft Natural keyboard to go with their Microsoft Intellimouse, whilst their Microsoft Sidewinder sits patiently awaiting them to play a game with it, if they're not too busy playing on their Xbox or Xbox 360. How many Windows users do you know that have a Windows phone, though?

There's nothing wrong with preferring one OS over the other. I like Windows, and that's not a problem. You may like OS X, and that's fine. However, just because you like an OS, or indeed the Mac itself, doesn't mean that you HAVE to have the iPhone, iPad, iPod etc. etc. JUST because it's an Apple product.

I like Windows, but I don't have a Windows phone - I have an Android. Why do I have an Android? Because it was the best choice for me. I don't like the iPhone. I don't like having one button. I don't like having a battery that's sealed in my device, knowing it will die one day. I don't like being charged for Angry Birds when it's free on Android. I like the iPod, but I can't really stand iTunes, so an MP3 interface certainly isn't a selling point for a phone for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't a phone historically a device you used to talk to people... not a device so you could be antisocial and block them out? I'd much rather have an iPod for my music (yes it's a good MP3 player) and conserve my phone's battery for other stuff!

There's nothing wrong with Apple's products per se - it's the whole elitism and must have attitude that's offputting when it comes to fanboys. And, like I said before, Apple are no saints.

To be fair, the battery comes out with 2 screws and sliding the back cover off (4/4S) and is easily replaceable.

Although, I do know what you were getting at :)

By Windows and Linux I meant to imply "PC users", but perhaps I didn't generalize enough. I should have added Android users too, or maybe just the human species. My point is that people are mindless idiots because most can only see through one ill-informed perspective, and believe in one exclusive (and often extreme) truth. That goes for this very thread; to me this Apple bashing makes one look like an idiot too/or maybe just extremely young/behind the times, which also qualifies one for idiot status. I was an idiot in this respect, I was like 13 when the candy cases emerged and they offended my sensibilities and I complained to whoever'd listen.

Anyways, what needs to be understood is that people aren't all the same. People won't have the same values as you. People won't have the same taste as you. Not everyone cares about product value, or specs, or even realizes that competitors have similar technology. In fact most people blatantly don't care. My message to this thread is get over it. When someone says their brand is better than your brand, why would anyone who is not an idiot take offense? Do you have personal stake in your brand or are you loyal for superficial reasons as well? Let them be ignorant and/or have a difference of opinion and do your own thing without raging.

The majority of people like Apple for it's reputation of quality. Others consider the investment in a status symbol worth while, and still perceive Apple products to be status symbols*. If you're going to criticize, criticize the underlying culture that supports Apple proliferation, not its effect which is essentially being an anti-fanboy.

*Personally I believe any elitism on behalf of the users these days stems from exaggerations by Apple's marketing. If big companies say it, it must be true. Also Apple products aren't effective status symbols anymore since they're so widespread...

And indeed I know many people with one or two Apple products, namely my entire family apart from myself. This is how I believe most of the world is, they claim to like Apple products because they're simple, reliable and pretty, and trust that everything they can think of has already been taken care of for them. They don't care to be a "power-user", early adopter, etc, they simply want peace of mind. They aren't trying to be unique, fashionable or trying to express themselves aside from changing their wallpaper. Are they mindless idiots? Well they're not fanboy/girls for sure. It might be hard to see, but they spend their time living and enjoying their Apple products in the "real world", not bitching on message boards and that counts for something...

Perhaps but I see the cell phone bearing crowd with their face stuffed into their phone texting someone or using twitter to tell people when they're pooping. While this may be "enjoying" their product in the "real world" they still have their face pointed at a virtual one.
