That note kind of signifies the future of Apple. Steve Jobs never would have apologized, and he definitely never would have recommend using their main competitors' maps. Then couple that with cheaper build quality, sharp marketing from competitors, and more technological problems than with any other iPhone launch before.

I think they might be slipping back into the pre-iMac/OSX era whether they like it or not.

    Jobs has apologized before...

Also, what makes the current iPhone "cheaper" in terms of build quality compared to the previous models?

It's kind of unbelievable that they're recommending Bing maps and Google maps...

Ha, I guess he did then. My only point was that he was able to turn criticism around with a certain passion and relativity that this recent statement from Tim Cook seems to be missing. Jobs gave Apple a certain mystique that only he could keep-up. Without him, Apple seems like any other generic company.

Maybe the disgruntled Foxconn workers and students forced to work against their will that make nickels on the dollar are cursing Apple products, maybe Apple is doing some profit control, or maybe it was just rushed from the high demand of it. Who really knows. I like open-ended hardware and software myself, so I don't care what happens to Apple tbh.

There's no doubt that Cook is currently being tested right now. Jobs was ruthless to the point where he was like a spoiled child, but he pretty much single handedly built the most profitable company in the world, so his methods and foresight seem to have worked. Cook was the brains behind the entire "exclusivity" factor with his idea of limiting the stock Apple has on hand to drive up the demand. However, Cook now has to prove that he can continue to lead Apple in a direction forward. Jobs never wanted another person like him, so direct comparison between the two is somewhat misleading. He knew the hell that Disney first went through the moment Walt Disney died. There was tons of infighting with people saying, "This isn't what Walt Disney would have wanted," and so on. Jobs just wanted someone who was "worthy" enough of continuing the Apple brand and not some clone of himself. From this point forward, Cook will need to show he has what it takes to lead a company into the future. Woz said that Apple has products planned for the next three years under Jobs's supervision, but those are merely concepts and ideas, not actual products. It'll be up to Cook to bring those products into fruition.

That article you linked is just another attempt at trying to nitpick on every little thing. "Slow WiFi" is pretty much the common complaint with every brand new Apple product these days. It first started to pop up around 10.5 and has continued with every single mobile product from there on out. The "puny aluminum" title is a misnomer because, if you go to the actual iFixIt article, they'll mention how it's easier to repair and contains improved internals. The exact quote regarding the "puny aluminum" came from this right here:

    Source: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-5-Teardown/10525/4

The "leaking backlight" thing has been around since the iPhone 3G, so people are simply trying to grasp for straws, especially if you look at the photos that they're referring to. People reported the exact same issue when it came to the Samsung Galaxy S3, so it's actually something that's common to most of today's smart phones. Bashing Siri has been the "in" thing since the 4S, so that's nothing new. Mentioning iCloud's 5 GB restriction has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone, so I'm not sure why they bothered putting that in there in the first place. Apple has machines that can go up to 16 TB in storage space, and they have the ability to backup to iCloud. Why not mention that in a different article when comparing different cloud solutions? It makes them appear as if it's just a tactic to find as many ways to bash Apple in a single article as possible.

With regards to the Foxconn workers, a recent article came out saying 97% of the workers are working the government mandated 60 hours a week. Let's not forget that Foxconn is the supplier for products for Cisco, Sony, Microsoft and a plethora of other companies out there. Not many people know this, but there's a huge violent nationalistic push going on in China right now, but since Japan has been taking most of the brunt of this, most people aren't reporting on it. They've been attacking pretty much anything that is "foreign," and Foxconn got hit in the crossfire thanks to them being the outsourcing company for most of these non-Chinese tech companies.

I've been using Apple products for the past 21 years, so I know quite a bit of the history when it comes to their products, both good and band. My Apple usage was never exclusive, however. I constantly uses Windows and various flavors of Linux thanks to me working in IT. They all have their pros and cons. I personally prefer the Apple solutions for daily life, but that doesn't mean they're the best, and it surely doesn't mean they're leaps and bounds above the competitors. It simply works for me. There's no doubt that there are mindless drones who'll buy anything with "x" brand, but you'll find that in lots of other industries.

Apple is far from perfect, and they've fucked up quite a bit in the past. There is plenty of legitimate criticism to go around on their products, but a lot of these iPhone 5 complaints seem extremely petty. It's as if they're just trying to ride on the coattails of Apple's success at the moment. You want legitimate complains? How about Apple's disregard for the pro market? They refuse to even refresh the Mac Pros with USB 3.0. Meanwhile, their laptops get it. What kind of sense does that make? This is a machine that, as of today, hasn't been updated in 794 days. Sure, they allow for the latest Xeon processors via BTO, but that alone won't be enough to maintain their grip on the A/V world. How about dropping Firewire? That was Apple's baby for the longest time, and their current dongle is not even close to being 100% backwards compatible. Thunderbolt is Intel's technology, and it's true that Thunderbolt is better, but it's far from a perfect solution at this point in time thanks to the absolutely outrageous prices on everything at the moment. I understand the logic behind it, but I think it was a bit too early. SD slot in the rMBP? How about ditching that stupid thing and adding another USB 3.0 port to make the thing more versatile... HDMI? The thing has TWO Thunderbolt ports. There's no need for HDMI, especially one that's HDMI out only. Again, throw in another USB 3.0 port instead. Mini Display to HDMI adapters have been around for awhile, so you could have just used one of those in a Thunderbolt port.

Long story short - there's plenty of criticism to go around for Apple, but people are looking in the wrong place. I'd rather people spend time on legitimate concerns rather than simply try to grasp for straws on their latest releases.

Here's some Apple criticism for you: a Macbook Pro that costs $/€1800 has a graphics card with 512 MB of RAM.

I never liked Macs because despite the high price its always a compromise: right now I either pay a lot for a macbook with (AT BEST) a lowend WSXGA screen, or I pay a fuckload for a macbook that is over 1080p but still has midend specs and a screen that tends to burn-in

Seriously, the last time I saw a laptop for more than $2,000 and with a crappy LCD with burn-in problems I was waiting for the Sonic 3 launch...

Now iTards, the idiots who ruin it for everybody? they are fucking EVERYWHERE these days, you can smell how afraid they are now that jobso is dead and the idiots he left in charge are fucking everything up, so they are specially annoying thinking that by spamming everybody else they will keep apple from losing again

The irony is that apple actually hates fanboys and keeps suing them, maybe because they know those idiots only make apple look bad

I always hated the fact that you can't make your own mac because apple wont let you install OSX legally, but the way they are dumbing down OSX for the iTards is just pathetic. Now there are rumors about apple moving YET AGAIN from X86 to ARM (kiss all your apps goodbye).

A few years from now all macs will be little more than big ipads without a battery.

And microsoft, apple actually has a deal where they cant sue eachother, and thats because microsoft has more patents than apple does, including those regarding multitouch from the original surface that predates the iphone

Why you think samsung and HTC are going back to windows and launching W8 phones and tablets? because if apple tries to sue them ballmer is going to rape tim cook with a wave of lawsuits, and win.

512 MB? Is that going to be enough to play the latest games?

    Oh, wait...

    Apple is a techno-cult.

Granted...I did try their products, but I saw nothing special in them. They just seemed like designer items. I'm the type of person that prefers my hardware to be a workhorse. I enjoy upgrading, cleaning, and DIY stuff. Apple just so happens to make fragile hardware that becomes obsolete and unsupported way too fast all while being overpriced and underspecced, and comepletly locks the user (me) out of doing anything useful.

The items are pretty, but they don't have it where it counts. The operating system...I don't like it, it feels like a prison, almost nothing is user customizable and many things I could get for free on Windows all of a sudden cost 5 to 30 dollars a pop.

Further more I just don't like the Apple attitude, and I was serious when I called them a cult.

Apple locks you in like a cult
The founder, Steve Jobs is reveared like a cult leader
The blind devotion is cult like
The language of Apple store employees is specifically constructed...like a cult
Come to think of it...isn't it odd that they have stores?
