I'm sorry for the off topic rant, but this needs posting.

First off, I'll say I'm a Mac user- but only in the computer department. I have enough brain mass to realize that the iPhone/iPad, to a technical user, is the worst choice possible.

Now, I decided that for school use I'll need to get a tablet PC for jotting down notes. I looked around, and with a large budget on hand I eventually delved into the world of these new Slate PCs running an i5 processor. Soon after, I'm well impressed by the new Surface tablet by MS. Keyboard might not be good, but that's why I have a desktop. I don't require a computer with full "behind the curtain" access, so I reasoned that W8 will be just fine for simple day-to-day use.

I find a handful of reviews, and stumble across the biggest load of shit I have ever seen. In the comment section of the link below, a fanboy by the name of "TonyBabo" is ranting off on how Apple has pioneered every good piece of technology today. Don't even get me started on the grammar.

    Link==> http://www.todaysiphone.com/2012/06/why-apple-isnt-worried-by-microsoft-surface-type-cover/
And some quotes for those of you who'd rather not click

"because they should stop stealing apples ideas!!!! That's why there lawsuit. Invent your own niche. If it wasnt for apple your phones and tablets would still be using stylus. Oh those were so fun!!!!"

"I think you need to face facts. Everything you use today, your phone, your tablet is because of Apple. They are the ones that changed the game."

"So I don't see how you can dare talk bad about it [iPad]. Not one tablet out to compete has been good. It hasn't even been close when going up against the IPad"

At this point I was ripping my hair out. I can't believe someone could be so... brainwashed into believing all of that. Sure, I understand that some people enjoy touchscreen pecking (and carpal tunnel) but the rest of it is just appalling.
Further research into other tablets like the Samsung Series 7 Slate 2nd gen brings up even more of this. Overwhelming amounts of it. Not only tablets, but everything, is under attack from the hoards of iZombies.
Any damn device with a metal case and chiclet keyboard is automatically marked as being plagiarized off Apple.

Can someone help me understand this, or do I really have to accept the fact that the next generation (this gen too) of society will be trash?
Anyone else care to post something they've seen in regards to this?

I think it's because most people just like to either be like PC or Mac, Droid or iOS. The argument that Apple paved the way for every modern piece of technology is just BS. They glorified it, and popularized it so more fucktards like that guy you quoted would buy there products. I think nowadays there's too many idiots who don't know what the fuck there talking about in terms of technology.

To be fair, apple did kickstart the whole personal computer thing... (although I doubt that guy is talking about it in that context or even know his computer history)

Apple's marketing, it's super strong and very effective. That person most likely is a kid/fanboy.

You will get fanboys / girls for any tech these days (Sony vs Nintendo vs Microsoft) or (IOS vs Android vs Windows 7 phone) I guess its just the way Apple market their products. For example each ipod, iphone and ipad revision isnt that dramatically different from the one before it. But they hype them up to make it sound like they are the best things and people must buy their products as its the cool / hip thing to do!

My favorites are the people saying you HAVE to get a Mac if you work with art. Right, because it's not possible to do that on a PC at all.

While I was studying we were forced to use Macs, annoying thing was they were setup so poorly it made me rage. The teacher always got annoyed at me as I'd always dis the Mac. "Fuck you Mac, Fuck you Apple, Fuck you Mr.Jobs" etc. Really I just like saying shit about Macs and that it pissed off the bitchy teacher. :p

i seem to be the only person in the hole fucking world that has no preference to any platform, i use windows, mac and linux on a daily basis and think they all have the equal + - points, phones i dont have a problem with ios but prefer android just because its more open. i do kinda agree that apple are creating mindless people but i also think there alot more things causing that people theses days dont seem to have any common sense atall, if they dont have a tutorial to guide them through every step they seemed to be fucked or ask you todo it for them... i hate how people seem to minelessy assume that apple is the best (my brothers think that and it drives me mad!). it dosnt seem to make sense about apple suing samsung, seeing as there one of there major suppliers of components

The thing is, this isn't a new phenomenon. Back when Apple was near death, people always flaunted if they were a Mac user. Its sad too, since in my opinion the hardware generally speaks for itself and is good enough without all the crazy people out there.

That's because if you owned a Mac in the 90s, you were probably a dangerous stupid and felt like you had to defend your decision.

Bad_ad84 you made me totally laugh. As a retro computer collector I have plenty amigas.

As per the post the bottom line is there are lots of stupid people. Fanboys are a particularly bad breed of this phenomenon.

To me, Apple is a completely bloated hype-machine. Gotta admit, I once liked them (got an 80GB Classic iPod and a mid-2006 iMac), but when the iPhone came out it dawned on me that they sold super expensive and probably beautiful (probably because the iPhone's design doesn't appeal to me at all and the aluminium iMacs look so much fuglier than the white ones IMO) hardware, that however is absolutely not high-spec and a great example of function-follows-form. You can't even repair those new macbooks properly since even the battery is glued on. Also, while OSX certainly looks good it's the OS I've had most problems with. Don't get me even started on the poor bluetooth implementation in iOS and that whole closed ecosystem.

I have to admit I'm primarily a Linux user on the desktop, with W7 for some games and music production. Mobile-wise I'm running Android, but I'm also pretty eager to test Windows Phone (to me that tile design is something really beautiful and the Nokia Lumia phones are also quite the most sexy phones I've ever seen, still WP is quite locked and there are not that many apps out there).

Steve and Wozniak did. Apple of today is most definitely not the same thing as Apple that started the PC thing.

Plenty of instances where Steve showed his crazy (demanding the redesign of the traces on a mobo for the RAM because it was "ugly") and showed he was an asshole (shorted Wozniak money by telling him a false figure) but he sure was a hell of a marketer. Marketers tend to be assholes.

Apple did start the Personal Computer. I completely agree. The original series, minus the Lisa, were amazing computers for the time. They had a full GUI before anyone else did and believed in the GUI being the future.
However, I'm more ranting on the most recent stunts they've been pulling.

I don't think that it's completely fair that they've been suing companies and probably will sue even more in the future. Should it get seriously out of hand, companies will be forced to restrict themselves in R&D so that it doesn't conflict with what Apple believes they patented- touchscreen, single face button phones. I can clearly imagine them going after MS for making the Surface with a magnetically attached cover.
On another note, I love the magsafe charger. It's convenient and efficient for a charger design. I don't like the fact that Apple came up with it, because now we won't see it on any other brands of computers, where it would be better suited.

Microsoft should have ran them out of business when they had the chance. Never should have bought all that stock to bail them out.

    You are confusing your Steves.

Wozniak redesigned the PCB because he realised he could use a few less vias if he rotated the memory chips.
