well said, that's exactly what they do. I give them credit though for creating a consumer rhat actually wants everything apple makes.

As much as I HATE the "unholy fruit" and their products I must say their marketing strategy is very well thought out. To brainwash a whole generation is quite a feat.
I mean take a look at this video. Just because they think they are holding the new phone they say it's better then the last.
Quite funny and sad if you think about it.

Watch "First Look: iPhone 5" on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdIWKytq_q4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Mmm, yeah - but it is beyond the capabilities of the average user. And there are probably some rather iffy third party batteries out there. And yeah... 3S was HORRENDOUS to get the battery out of! Screws, carefully sucker pad the screen out, disconnect cables, systematically unscrew the motherboard and remove it... then carefully lever the battery off the rear casing. Never fun!

Err, yeah... look at my original post! It explains what I think of Apple, and why. In a nutshell, it says that Apple are no saints, no innovators, sue happy... but good at marketing!

I agree with you to a point... but to be honest, a lot of the attitude is from technically inept people, not fanboys in the sense you're thinking of. They ARE the fashion-conscious bunch who want the trendy phone because their friends have it... and will stand up for it on Facebook and the like every damn time someone asks what phone they should get. So yes, they DO rant on forums, in effect!!

e.g. recent conversation on my FB timeline:

Girl 1 (my friend): Right im upgrading next month and need ideas for decent phones..never again shall i grace myself with a Blackberry! just got it back today and already mucking up!

    Girl 2: IPHONE!!!!!!!!!!

Girl 1: just so i can Imessage you lol!

Girl 2: Exactly!!! :p Iphone's are the best so many apps there literally is a app for everything lol. x - N.B. and there's not on Android?

Girl 3: phone 5 out any minute thats wat amn waiting for

Girl 1: that would be an expensive contract though lol

Girl 3: nah only 45 - N.B. £45 a month is a very expensive contract! My Galaxy S II is on something like £22 a month

Girl 4: iPhone!! I find the apps are cheaper. Once you get one you won't look back. x - N.B. What?! Angry Birds is FREE on Android - not on iPhone! A lot of apps are free on Android!

Most of the guys slagged off Apple though, lol. It just goes to show, people listen to the marketing, to the hype. And believe it. They don't show rational thought, try ALL the phone types and go for the one they like the best. They become part of the mindless flock.

Like I said, I have my reasons to dislike Apple - and I don't dislike the iPhone because I dislike Apple, thankyouverymuch. I hate its interface, I hate iTunes, I hate that it's overpriced and I hate the unlock procedure. I have used and repaired many iPhones, and I don't like it. As I said before, iPod is great - but not the phone.

As someone who has almost daily experience with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Debian, have an old iBook G4 which has been sadly superseded by several of my computers, and have an Android phone, I think iOS and MacOS are some of the most usable and functional systems out there for the layman to use, and I would happily switch completely to Mac and iPhone... except that it's difficult with the hardware costs and potential cross-compatibility issues (mostly Windows support of Mac, although I have had major headaches with one popular Mac-based product - Final Cut Pro - that breaks compatibility the other way).

Maybe someone can help me to find the answer to this questions...
1)Why services pack of windows are FREE but apple update cost about 30$. (apple update =/= new windows version)
2)Why people blame ms windows for bsod, on my pc i never seen a bsod. Apple fanboy never seen the famous kernel panic?
3)Why apple fill usb device or other mass storage device with useless empty folder?
4)Why apple doesen't respect any standard?
5)Why people attak the new interface of windows 8 but doesn't seen that the interface of mac have ten (?) years old :p
6)why apple is considered professional in some contest?
7)why apple simbol cost so much? people tell me that apple uses better materials for own device. meh...
8)Why apple gives me the idea tha freeware on that os is inexistent?
9)and most stupid thing. why apple users think that os are virus free and don't uses A.V.! maybe the forgot the recent botnet, don't forget apple to solve this protection issues took 3 months :p

I can continue, but i'm tired to still write ...

The age of a desktop environment doesn't make it a bad one.

I'm curious as to what you mean by obsolete. It still does the job very well, and is productive.

GNOME 3 is newer but to many people isn't as productive as GNOME 2, Is GNOME 2 obsolete?

Oh and Kimmel did this -
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdIWKytq_q4

A placebo effect experiment, they went out with the 4S and asked people what they thought about the iPhone 5, implying the 4S they were holding was it. One women who even had a 4S in her other hand said it was faster and lighter.

I strongly disagree, with many (but not all) of your points actually. Classic desktop GUI's are still productive. In fact, most of the user screenshots I see of windows 8 are with the older windows layout with taskbar/etc. I use ubuntu but I use the gnome classic shell, and even though mac os's gui is 20+ (more than ten) years old, its still usable, and I can't think of any better gui for any of the OS's than what each already has (the new windows 8 one is terrible, imo)

Lol. I do hate the idiots on,ine, but I'm making a fortune off them offline.
I dusted out someone's Macbook today- $50. I then got a call and installed an SSD in an iMac- $100
As long as you know how to do everything properly, fixing/upgrading Mac computers is a great way for quick pocket lining.

Going back on the "idiot" portion- as I was installing OSX on the iMac the user tried to touch the screen to click a button. I had to tell him it wasn't touchscreen. He then did the same to my laptop. I had to remind him.
    I was horrified.

12 years old. Steve Jobs attempted to murder OS 9 and introduce OS 10 (OSX) in 2000 but it was so slow people hated it. Then they optimized it and OS 9 finally died off.
OS 9 had a dock like thing at the bottom, but it was more for settings. OSX 10.0 first introduced the application dock at the bottom, and the whole UI everyone knows.

Right, the menu bar itself hasnt changed much though. It's aged and advanced, but still same concept since system 1 and later apple/apple lisa os's

And that story about the guy trying to touch the screen... I'd have been pretty horrified too...

Something in "tecnology world" that have 20+ years is obsolete. There's ever something that can be improved to do better usabilty. As if windows still uses win2000 interface for his enviroment.
Something that is good or perfect doesen't mean that can't improved ;)

Don't worry. Apple have already fixed this. How? soldering ram, SSD and other component directly on mobo. Now you can't even upgrade your system. You can only buy a newer apple product. Great!

I don't like new windows "tablet" gui too (i hate it), but some people won't understand the real idea behind this GUI.
Windows creating a gui that is familiar with an entire enviroment (windows phone, tablet ecc), and for noob or normal users (people that uses pc only for facebook, read ebook ecc) it's something fantastic.
Now for microsoft and apple, the normal user is more important than "expert" users.

Most people or users, especially in work ambient, don't like to spend time and "energy" to adapt to something new and still prefer uses an obsolete enviroment...
For example, in my country, I see bank employees still using win98 or old msdos programs :D

No kidding. As of late, it seems like the technology world is dividing people up into different camps who sing the praises of theirs and shower disdain upon the rest. All this negativity is getting so unbelievably tired.

Reality check people: Let's all buy the computing devices we like for reasons that are important to us, and have the decency to allow the same courtesy to our neighbours.

All these things are, are tools that allow us to do the tasks we want. You buy what you want, and I'll do the same.
