The new consoles are nearly upon us at least in the US and the UK at the end of this month. Japan has to wait for the PS 4 till after the holidays (they did get vita first at least). The commercials are all over the airwaves now and people are already speculating huge ebay prices for those who don't get it in stores. I think I'm going to wait out the PS 4 launch window but I'm not sure if impulse buying will get the best of me. I love platform games and Knack is supposed to be decent and those particle effects are pretty damn nice. But honestly, the games don't look that much better then the current PS3 and 360. Another thing I saw was that Assassin's Creed 4 has better weather and environmental effects on PS4. But is playing a game with better weather effects and the same content worth $399? I know we have alot of retro gamers here that are avoiding the next gen and even current gen altogether (though I still recommend a 3DS since its so fantastic or a vita if you like japanese games). What are your plans? Are you lining up? Avoiding it altogether? Are you choosing xbox over ps4?
I fall into the retro side of things so nope. I like a console life to be at least 10 years before I get it. Made an exception for a 3DS 3 days after the US launch and I've regretted it ever since... It's been in for warranty repair 3 times now and STILL has problem. Gonna wait for a black XL size that's cheap. Besides, I'm having too much fun with my classic Xbox modding project.
Thats terrible about your 3DS. I definitely recommend the XL as thats what I use but the analog nub is not as good as the regular 3DS. I modded mine to have the regular 3DS one. Also just saw this, Target shipped 150 Xbox Ones out early so they are in hands now of consumers: http://www.geekwire.com/2013/microsoft-damage-control-gamers-receive-xbox-weeks-early/
I might get one. It's not really necessary, since I already have a PC that's probably more powerful than either one. But I would like a PS4 for things like Knack and Japanese games that probably won't be released on PC. I think I would choose a PS4 over an Xbox One because A) it's cheaper B) it's supposedly more powerful C) Microsoft pissed me off with the bullshit they pulled after the announcement, and I don't trust them to not do something like that again and D) I like the media capabilities of the PS3, and I expect the PS4 to be as good or better in that regard. But I probably won't get one at launch, and I'm not sure if I'll get one at all.
I preordered PS4 right after watching SONY's E3 press conference. I will eventually pickup a Xbox One as I like to collect consoles, just not now. I know the launch titles are a bit thin for both platforms, but I really want something new for the Holidays. At this point in time PS4 just seem more interesting (hardware wise).
Most likely an Xbox One a couple of years in, unless I end up judging that the PS4 is the better choice by then. The Wii was the last console I bought on release day, and I regretted it.
I'll buy PS4, not at launch though. Maybe when Second Son comes out. Not interested in Xbox One. Much less powerful, costs more, shitty first party, paywall even for apps... Could not think about any positive thing :/
As for me I preordered a PS4 because it really looks like a true console whereas the Xbox One looks more like a "general-purpose" entertainment device, which to me makes the Xbox One look like a PC but with the restrictions of a console. But even though I'm saying that I'm probably going to buy one on launch (if I can find one) because for some reason I like to own the first model of any console (recently bought an SCPH-1000 and a VA0 Saturn just for that reason . But just like la-li-lu-le-lo, my PC is probably more powerful than even the PS4 so in the end I will just use them to play exclusive titles, and that's my advice to anyone who is interested in next-gen consoles: build your own gaming PC because it's the only true "next-gen" gaming machine and only buy a PS4/Xbox One if you've got the extra money for it and really want to play some of the exclusive titles.
I can not understand this logic. Buying console for decade and thinking about launch line up. SCE has many talented first party studios, do you think they won't make games? And Xbox One lineup is not good. Nobody will care about any exclusive launch title for it in a year.
I'm still torn between between them, all the MS bollocks at E3 made me lean towards PS4 but neither system has any games that would made me go and buy one at launch. Now since Crimson Dragon is playable with a pad, the decision is a little harder, I think I will wait it out, far too many good games to finish on PS3 and 360. Adding the 720p debacle on xbox one for several titles to the mix... feels like MS are trailing which doesn't make a lot of sense since MS' background has been predominantly supporting x86 platforms... Something doesn't add up... I'm not spending £429 for 720p, Kinect is cute but mine is gathering dust... It's an expensive gimmick, forced down your throat. The huge disappointment for this gen overall is no Ridge Racer at launch...
Well, what's the point in buying a console if it's just going to gather dust for months while you hope that it maybe gets some interesting games?
What's the point in buying console for a decade because there are a bigger quantity (not quality) of launch games?
I'll buy PS4 Slim when it appears. Весаuse now there is no gamez. I was more excited about PS3 launch in 2007 than now.
I do not think they will change PS4 formfactor until the end of generation. But there will be a new model within 2 years with new smaler APU, 20nm or less.
There is no killer game for me to get either console, Infact there seems to be more Wii U titles coming up that I'm looking forward to.
Yeah, Wii U will get a bunch of good games next year. But I do not want to play only Nintendo games, so I'll buy Wii U at the end of generation when it is cheaper or on a sale.
