Ave, you should play Thexder Neo, its a nice enough remake and plays pretty much true to the original. What is Famicom Thexder like? Nice Phalanx, you just need to drop several hundred on a working X68k now
thx for the comments guys. Well, at least IF I wanted to sell that LH, I'd know who to contact first, SirGadget ..ebay of course, with a hilarious BIN offer!! I'd love to, it really looks like they did a nice job on it. Just a shame it was released as a download snippet for PSPgo... >_< Otherwise I'd be all over it. Famicom Thexder is... a Famicom port from 1985, lol. Don't expect too much, the sound is pretty monotone (although the Thexder soundtrack itself is a masterpiece in my opinion, I have it twice (1x Thexder from Saturn Game Basic, dunno why it was on it but there are youtube videos so I ripped it & 1x the entire PC8801 version OST) and the game hard as nails and unforgiving. They transported the atmosphere quite accurately though, so it's worth the purchase. a review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWu2MRg9ouc Yeah, that's the big bummer. I wanna get an X68000 SOMEDAY since there's this probably best Gradius ever to be played, Nemesis '90 Kai, but for now all I can afford is an MSX. Which is not bad, I've always wanted a damn MSX Should arrive in 8 weeks by seamail, oh goddamn you distance to Japan ^^
The only Thexder I had played previous to PSP's Neo was the DOS version, which has terrible sound so anything is probably an improvement! I've never actually played the original so I'll have to crank up a PC-88 emulator. Nemesis 90 kai is great yes, but the rank is absolutely brutal! Did they ever put any of the 'powerups' (as in the formation changer/wave laser pick ups) in any other Gradius games? Have you tried Garudius '95 on PC-98? thats another great obscure gradius game (well its doujin, but very near Konami quality imo!)
Sorry, I was mistaken! The Game Basic soundtrack files are from Fire Hawk, the sequel to Thexder. It's nonetheless great, just listen to this piece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX7aIg2wAFA Madroms uploaded every track, quite enjoyable. And another reason to get the MSX2 version, if it just wasn't to fucking rare & expensive >_< No, the "power-ups" like the obscure "Up-Laser" are Gradius 2/Nemesis '90 Kai only. I've only seen videos since I can't get the X68000 emulator to work, I'm pretty noobish with the bios files and stuff so it's very likely my fault. How much would I like to play it on an original X68000 in RGB 31kHz, non-interlaced! I haven't heard about particularly hard rank yet, but the MSX Gradius 2 (on the 32bit compilation discs) seems to be quite tough overall. I've been told that the scrolling is better than on the compilation if you play it on a MSX2+ or better. The extremely blocky scrolling when I play it on the Saturn caused more than one death and I've yet to get further than to third stage. Almost like Gradius III arcade -_- I've heard of Garudius '95 but I still have to discover the doujin Gradius area, I focus on the main games for now although these independent developments can be very entertaining.
The rank is insane as I say, in the later levels the bullets double their speed instantly when picking up an option, even MID FLIGHT. Perhaps I've just not played enough Gradius before. And yes, I know what you mean about III - I love the first level, but thats all I've ever seen! If you are interested in playing '90 then I have a getting started guide with links, how to's etc for the X68k that will be going up on a website in a few days, once I've done a redraft. I'll let you know once its up, or let me know if you want me to pm you the article now.
Some of the new stuff I've received since my last post: * Sony MSX2+ F1XV w/new belt * Philips CM8802 monitor * Micomsoft XE-1 Pro, boxed w/instructions & sheets Expanding my Gradius-Collection =) * Parodius MSX - the very first Parodius-game from 1988, two years prior to the arcade game! * Gradius MSX * Gradius 2 MSX * Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou X68000 and * Darius Gaiden SAT w/reg-card As well as four Arcadia magazines: Including several Daioujou and Ikaruga articles (level guides & general information and hints) as well as an Ibara coverage. Only catch with the MSX is that I'm still not getting a proper picture with my RGB cable (it keeps scrolling at least once a second and flickers). I don't think that this is caused by the MSX, so if anyone has a spare DIN->SCART RGB cable for an MSX that is tested & working, please let me know. @oli_lar You mean "how to's" for emulating the X68k? Because I can't buy one at the moment -> lack of money and, even more important, space. I'd be interested in your article though, I'm always trying to expand my knowledge on those Japanese home computers. An area of this hobby that I've ignored until not too long ago
Thx Super-Play, your PCE-Collection is also expanding very nicely ^_^ Until a couple of minutes ago, I've been busy wrapping my PCE- & DC-collection in plastic bags w/spine cards exposed. (SCD)PCE-games look brilliant that way, maybe not as superb as DC-games but definitely better than Saturn soft dammit! No extras were included with those. But they were dirt-cheap and I don't have any wall space left for posters, so I can't complain. Divided by the number of items contained in the package, I paid exactly 5 Euros for each Arcadia issue (w/shipping!). Usually even uninteresting issues go for 10€ each and those were the ones I've mostly been after (#7 explains the DOJ hitboxes, always wanted this one). Now I'm only missing any other Arcadia's with DOJ & Ikaruga footage, especially that one with a picture of WIZ (Ika DVD player)^^ Which DOJ poster are you referring to btw? Was it identical to the arcade poster? The only one I'm really (REALLY) fancying is the Ikaruga poster that initially came with my Ikaruga issue in the top left. Our fellow user KEN has it on his wall ^_^ http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c308/kenfontijn/DSC_0190.jpg
yeah, got mine for about 50yens each as well. but the poster would be worth a little fortune within the cave fan unity nowadays. dunno if it is the same as the arcade one, but I think it is at leat smaller like A3 format. and.. who puts posters on a wall anyway? lol
The MSX is a nice device to own, but I will have to learn some BASIC for enhanced nerdom! So far it's "just" a real nice gaming machine, especially with the XE-1 Pro. I will probably buy either the FC & PCE models of it later or the matching adapters. In any way, I need to connect that device of awesomeness to my ofther two hardwares of awe >_< @Tatsujin I don't know, people with wall space? ^_^ The only poster I have on my wall is a custom made Gradius II X68000 cover in A2. I'd also like an ESP Ra.De. or a Daioujou Black Label poster. Ibara is also very cool.... watashi-tachi ha KIREI! ^^" @thread Got a surprise package from a friend in the mail today. Lots of trash (no spinecards) but some can be used. I love the Gpara series and I've always wanted to try out Starsweep and Psychic Force 2012. Kenseiden for Mk3 (no instr.) was also on my wanted list, but I'll first have to buy a Mega Adaptor to try it out. The package also contained a really nice lot of PAL/US demo discs for the Saturn as well the entire PAL-lineup of Saturn Flash! discs (vol. 1-7). I really dig any demo I can get my hands on. Including the Japanese hibaihins/flash Saturn discs, I must have about 60-70 Saturn demos right now. Another addition that will be of particular interest for our fellow user TATSUJIN: Original Japanese PCB! The only Toaplan games I'm still after are Snow Bros (MD), Slap Fight MD, V-V (Arcade) and Hellfire S / Tatsujin for PC-Engine. I'll post a picture of my current Toaplan collection later when I printed out some art on glossy paper for every PCB I own ^_^
Haven't had too much money to spend during the past couple of months (end of civil service -> unemployed -> shitty job), but I got two new jobs now and will be able to continue haadocore collecting pretty soon! *_* For a start: TG16 PAL unit (new old stock, unopened) as it was on sale. I've always wanted one of those dust catchers. The other games include Otenki Kororin (late Takumi puzzler), Tondemo Crisis (aka Incredible Crisis) w/nice cover art, a beautiful clear-green cd case with Bust-A-Move 2, Astro Trooper Vanark (railshooter) and a cheap Paro Wars for my Gradius collection. I also bought shitloads of plastic baggies for my Japanese games. I hesitated to do this for a long time, but well... I'm very careful about sunlight entering my room and, well...: why would I care about spinecards if I never see them? All my other CD games are now protected in the same way as well as all Amaray style packagings for games and films. Yesterday I drove 800km towards southern Germany to pick up cartons full of German video game mags from 1991-1999 (incl. Sega Magazines w/posters!). These are 70+ kilograms (ca. 300 issues of all sorts of Mags) and they are stored in boxes, so I won't take pictures of them. In addition to that, I've got myself five issues of another magazine lately, it's called ASM and was the first German magazine that reviewed console games. ASM (Aktueller Software Markt -> Current Software Market) was first issued in 1986 and my five issues contain 9/87 and 9/88-12/88. Formerly a pure home-pc magazine for gaming and programming (Atari ST, C64, Apple II, Spectrum etc), they introduced a console section in issue 9/88: Long and very entertaining articles (colloquial language). The "console introducing special" consists of several articles about the British market and the oncoming PC-Engine (poor buggers never got them!) as well as a comparison between the NES and SMS tennis game. The covers are worn (esp. the issue in the top left corner from 87), but the insides look perfect and absolutely flawless. Even most of the posters are still inside, such as After Burner and KATAKIS: Full art: O_O Lots of nice artworks in every issue, most strikingly as part of the ads: Another aspect that makes the ASM so much fun to read is authenticity. The authors were nerds, not some wannabes like nowadays. Awesome Sorry for the long post with many details, but I maybe you found some interest in vintage German computer/console magazines despite the language barrier ^_^
Nice one on the mags. I had tons of ASM, Happy Computers, Power Play, Video Games mags from 87~95. Great times.
Something new after a long time... I actually bought several things during the past two months, it just hasn't arrived yet Surface mail from Japan takes its time... but the packages (2) will be filled to the top with cool shit, can't wait for them to arrive! PSX: Raiden Project, G-Darius, Choaniki, Baby Universe, Ridge Racer, Tony Hawk 1, Rockman 1-4 GB: Super Mario Land 2 (us), Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Donkey Kong I have SML2+3 already as loose carts which I borrowed from a friend about 12 years ago. I just wanted to get the boxes and I must say they look really perfect (except for SML3 which has one bad corner!). I also received the last two missing issues of the German magazine "Mega Fun" a couple of days ago. Mega Fun is my first complete magazine collection of the three "longterm-mags" (issued for more than 3yrs) I focus on. If someone who thinks about selling his Maniac / Video Games-magazines reads this: I'm still missing the highlighted orange issues! And I'd be interested in a sale anytime Trivia One of the games above is game #1000. Cake & beer for everyone :033:
Wasn´t the Mega Fun a Fanzine before they decided to release their Mag commercially? I think there might be some earlier releases before 5/1993...
