It's a shame that the last SEGA console got that weird Daytona USA port. The cars look like they are made of plastic but that's not the major problem for me, the main issue it's the controls. I can live with that, though, but it's a shame.

I second the Steam port, the Xbox360/PS3 port it's amazing and shouldn't stay only in that machines.

It's the same on the 360 too. Nobody is ever online these days. A real shame too.

I actually really like Daytona USA 2001. I have the Japanese version. The controls are a bit different from the arcade, but it's still pretty fun, I think. I really like the graphics - it reminds me of some of AV's other games, like Super Monkey Ball and F-Zero GX. It's too bad it was the only game AV released for the Dreamcast.

It would've been nice if it had a splitscreen mode too. I don't know why it doesn't.

Never post on this thread already and first one is for a request...
I love Battle of the ports and I was wondering if it was possible to make one on Toki (Juju Densetsu)?
However, keep up the so good work. ^^

Toki is a game I actually like. I own the Japanese Mega Drive version. I'd love to cover it someday so I'll add it to the request list.

A new Battle of the Ports is out now - Sega Touring Car Championship

Great new episode Yakumo. I remember seeing this game on magazines and then actually playing it... such a shame.

The controls are weird, the cars have no weight and the graphics are terrible. Just compare on how well Daytona USA aged, both in graphics and controls. I wonder what would have happened if AM2 had developed it instead of AM5.

Still, what i hate mostly is the forced sense of speed. You are always super fast and thanks to the weird controls, it's almost impossible to stay on track. There's also no speed progression to the point it's pratically impossible to go below 100km/h and even if you crash you get back to 300km/h in less than a second.

Another great episode, I had no idea that there was a feature linked to the Saturns internal clock!

Was Sega the first to innovate this sort of idea?

i owned the PAL version of Touring Cars back in the day and that was awful as Johnny says the graphics were poor and very jerky and on top of that it had huge boarders, although not as bad as Daytona that was Loki plying through a letter box.

This was one I was waiting for, always thought game had a great soundtrack and was always bummed how poor the saturn port was. Always thought it was insane when you boot up it asks you time and what region you live in. Tried getting the pc version of stcc to run on my pc but keep getting an error. Did you have to do any patches to get it to work with win 7? I'm using win 8.1 and gives error when I launch.

Nah, it works just fine under windows 7 on my pc. I'm using 64bit on the desk top and 32 bit on the laptop.

I have a list of future BOTP shows but I want to bring the more popular shows forward. What games would you like to see covered? Remember that the game must have started in the arcade so no Saturn VS PlayStation requests or anything like that :)

Please don't worry about what's on the list, the chances are that the games you'll mention are on it and if they're not they can be added.

What's XIII? Is it the Irem shooter that was ported to the PS2? I have that too I think but I've never played it. It came in a PS2 bundle I bought last Christmas.

Since you're asking and i'm a big fan of the show:

Virtua Fighter - The first one - Arcade, 32X, Saturn (normal and remix), Windows and PS2)

Starblade - Arcade, Mega CD, 3DO, PS1 (Only if you own a 3DO - no need to spend money just for this.)

Others that have tons of ports and started on arcades: Gradius, Elevator Action, Operation Wolf, Super Hang-On, Samurai Shodown, Ikari Warriors, Prince of Persia, Raiden,...

Thanks for the input, Johnny. Virtua Fighter is on the list as I have originals of that on all formats bar the arcade :) Star Blade is a good choice too. I also like all of your other choices. Raiden is one that is coming soon but the problem I have with that is Jaguar emulators are pretty poor. Still, I may just go ahead and do it anyway.

NBA Jam will never be done I'm afraid. I loath that game although I did enjoy multi player with my mates back in the 90's. As a single player though I hate it.

Mortal is on the cards as it's been asked for quite a lot on another forum. It will be done at some point although it's another series I'm not too fond of :p

Street Fighter Zero 2 I'd love to do. I own quite a few versions of that so it will happen. Narc, another good choice and another on the cards. Wasn't that featured in the original TMNT movie in Shedders den?
