Yakumo-sama: On shitty days. Then nothing is as good as BOTP, and I have missed BOTP Now I am going to enjoy the episode
I love Cabal, I first played it on DOS for PC (5 1/4" floppy), I think I still have a copy of it somewhere. It had CGA color graphics, controls by keyboard. Here's a YouTube video of it: DOS - Cabal. It became a yearend ritual for a friend of mine to come over and play through the game at midnight as the new year started. A lot of fond memories from back then. Eventually my buddy moved, but we still talk about those nights playing Cabal and hope that someday we will do it again. Thanks for presenting this.
Have you considered doing a show on Hang On? There are a ton of versions of that game. It might be best if you did one show that covers both Hang On and Super Hang On. By the way, I just got Out Run for Saturn, and I love it. The Saturn port would've been perfect even without the smooth mode, but it really makes a big difference.
No problems. It's nice to hear that the video brought back memories Hang On is on the cards, don't worry actually I may bring that forward for the next show
Hey Yakumo, almost missed the Rygar episode. Great episode, like always. I really was curious about the Master System port. Why the video has 20+ minutes of black screen after the show ends?
Ah, the black screen is the result of a very odd encoding error. I have no idea why it happened either
Fantastic Yakumo. Like I said in earlier post from last year. I always appreciate the time and effort that you putting in the video. I really do enjoy watching comparison each between console.
The last two Battle of the Ports to be added to YouTube were Super Hang-On and Choplifter.
No, I mean the last two that are missing from the forum. Actually the Rygar video is also missing from this thread. Right now I'm encoding the next show for tomorrow.
Super Hang-On and Choplifter! Nostalgia overload! Choplifter was one my first Master System games, always had a blast playing it although i never managed to finish it. And Super Hang-On? I'll never forget it's DX cabinet right beside the DX Outrun, on the arcade is used to go. Always played both a couple of times everytime my parents took me there.
My main issue with the Genesis version of Super Hang On is that it looks and feels really slow, which is not at all what you want in a racing game. An unfortunate thing about the Genesis/MD is that it took a while for developers (including Sega, I think) to learn how to really take advantage of the hardware. A lot of the later games were more visually impressive than the earlier ones, which is not unusual for a console. I think if some of the earlier games that were ports of arcade games like Super Hang On, Out Run, Forgotten Worlds, etc. had been released near the end of the Genesis/MD's life, they would've been a lot better. But we'll never know.
I think a lot of the earlier games would have been much better if made later in the console's life. Not only because of more programming know how but also the cost of RAM dropped quite a bit towards the end of the system's life. All new video - Battle of the Ports - Densha de Go! Yeah, I did. ROM not RAM I'm working on the next Retro Core now. It's a game I hate with a passion but I know many will love the next choice. So I have to remain as natural as possible when writing the comments
