Believe it or not i never played Rainbow Islands. I don't think i ever saw it on the arcades but i do remember reading about the MD and SMS ports on a game magazine. If Tectoy released them, it was probably after i made the dumb decision to sell my collection. (Yeah i was just another dumb teenager).
We all make dumb decisions unfortunately I once had the ultimate kick ass Japanese Mega Drive collection on two occasions but ended up selling it twice Now I have a nice collection but it's missing so much cool stuff.
I know the feeling... I had pretty much all the Supergrafx games in mint condition in the early 90s and sold them on for nothing, re-acquiring that is expensive Now I don't let go of anything x)
At least you live in a place that's not difficult to go back to it. Thanks to idiots on MercadoLivre (Brazilian ebay), everything is "rare". The hipsters, trying to act cool and paying whatever price they see, doesn't help either. Since my money doesn't grown on trees, i simply stay away.
Yes, they are on the list New BOTP for today - Turbo Out Run
OOOH Turbo Outrun. I'll have to see if my theory about this being the worst ported game of all time is correct.
Turbo OutRun! I probably played it only once on the arcades. So my experience with it was all on the MegaDrive port. Sadly it didn't aged very well. And i agree to what you said, even though Turbo Outrun is an upgrade to the original game, it's nowhere near as good or remarkable as OutRun. AM2 got it right on the first time.
New Battle of the Ports - Darius II Enjoy. PS: Before anyone mentions that the GameBoy version is missing, there's a reason for that. The GB version of Darius isn't Darius II but more of a remix of Darius games.
Hey Yakumo have you ever thought about doing the Battle of the Ports with New Zealand Story. It has been on such things as the Arcade(obviously), NES, master system, mega drive, PC engine, FM Towns, and the Sharp X68K, and I believe a few others as well.
I sure have. It's on my list of games to cover. Actually, when I did Rainbow Islands I was thinking about doing New Zealand Story instead but ultimately went with Rainbow Islands. The New Zealand Story will be covered next month in March. It won't be the next show as that had already been decided but maybe it can be the following show?
Due to popular request - BOTP Mortal Kombat II Next week I'll be covering another much requested title from Japan.
