I used to think the texture warping glitch on the floor just in front of your train in the Saturn version of Densha De GO! EX was due to incorrect emulation, but then I saw your comparison video and noticed the same problem in the arcade original as well, so it's clearly not just SSF playing up. Also, I'd never really noticed just how much some of the assets were reduced in quality on the Saturn until watching the other variations - this game almost makes The House Of The Dead look as if it's running in the Saturn's high res display mode! Still, despite its many flaws I keep coming back to it for some reason...
Many people requested this so here it is.
As soon as you said it was a game you didn't like, I knew it was going to be Mortal Kombat! This should keep me occupied in the gym today. Looking forward to it.
Great show Yakumo, really a very good conparisson I thought. Loads of memories coming flooding back, mainly fight with my mates about what version was best! I obviously went for the Mega Drive, queued up for hours on "Mortal Monday" bought it then rubbed the gore in my Snes fanatic mates faces!!!!! Ha! Well done for remaing positive about the game it can't have been easy!!!!!
Im glad you enjoyed the show. It sure was not easy to stay positive but I'm glad I did as more people can enjoy the show that way.
I had Mortal Kombat for the Master System, back in the day. It aged better than i thought. Still, i think the only reason for it to exist was because the Master System was still relevant in Europe and South America. They probably made the GameGear version first and then had someone else to port it to the SMS. Anyway, another great episode Yakumo. I don't know if you're still accepting suggestions for future shows but i was curious to know you plan on doing BOTP for games like G-LOC and Turbo Out Run.
Please feel free to offer suggestions. Turbo Out Run is a good one, I'll add it to the list. G-Loc maybe tricky as all the home ports are nothing like the arcade. They could in fact be different games. I'll think about that one.
You're right about G-LOC. How about Super Off-Road? Seems it got tons of ports that kept the same style.
Super off road is a good one. I'll add it to the list. Yes, Mortal Kombat 2 will be covered but that's the last of the series I'm touching
Battle of the Ports Rainbow Islands is now online.
Well i can't say i'm a fan of the game but it's somewhat special to me - that was my first arcade board ever, and the first consolized arcade, before the term "supergun" even existed, and for a time it was damn impressive (it was before the SNES).
Yakumo-sama : Thanks for the MK BOTP, it was smashing reliving the old game Also I am smiling big, thanks to Rainbow Islands Thumps up and all that jazz, from a happy Dane !
Heh, I only knew about Rainbow Islands from watching Arino attempt to play through it. Pretty much every other version is better than the Famicom version he played. Have you done Dig Dug already? I have lots of memories from playing the C64 version, and then Dig Dug 2 pirated on the NES/Famicom.
