I'm hoping that this and the work being done exploiting the "OtherOS" call will result in a version of HD Loader that allows PS2 and PS1 games to be installed and run off the HDD. At the moment I've still got my PS2 with HDD set up next to the PS3, which seems a bit of a waste if one unit could do it all.
A couple of my PS2 titles (one of them my beloved Metal Slug Anniversary) doesn't work terribly well on the PS2 HDD set up sadly. Keeps stalling. Fingers crossed eh!
What is Metal Slug Anniversary? I have Metal Slug 3 and 6 installed, both of which work fine, and also have installed the original Metal Slug as part of the SNK Arcade Collection which also works fine? How odd.
Installing debug bios and pretending you have a debug system as nothing apart from seeing non working debug options works. Er that's about it.
Ouch. Unnecessary. If I can't afford it, how am I meant to buy it? And if I can buy it, how can I not afford it?
Perhaps revealing that you would use this exploit to drown yourself in pirated software was not necessary either.
excuse my ignorance but didn't sony stip out backward compatibilty? I thought the newer systems didn't even ship with the software emulation option...
I've manage to get a hold of a ps3 test. I havent really played with it yet. I have a question anyone know where i can get the manual for it? I would like to read about it if this isnt allowed im sorry
Well, I've readed all the thread and I'm still asking the same, what are the benefits for a non develper of a debug system? Can we loadad ISO's of the HDD? Can we play all region PS2 and PSX games? Or something among those lines.
there really isn't anything beyond ISO loading, Bluray region free, and the Attention whore/Look what I can do factor. That is if I understand correctly (which there is a 90% chance that I do not. ) it really only benefits those who want to do things with their expensive shiny dust collector Cheap and available dev system (when compared to official PS3 Test/Tool) Those wanting to break into Non linux hosted homebrew. Those wishing to hack the firmware ala Dark-Alex/M33 Those wishing to have the Look what I can do factor with lots more color lol that said if this does pan out I might actually pick up a PS3.
just out of curiosity, can PS3 games be dumped with a standard PC BD drive or even thru linux OS on the PS3? I ve always found the encryptions etc very interesting ever since the GC.
so what's "stopping" the rest from reading a PS3 Disk? Also, does the Lite-On 401S need a different firmware?
They were dumping games using a PS3 with Linux installed on it, a while back. But the images were useless, other than for investigating. There is no use for this debug other than pirating. You can install Linux for free, and develop basic stuff in Linux (not using the GPU).
