    This HUGE news.

For this to work your system must be below or at 1.80 for the 1.80 debug update and below or on 2.01 for the 2.15 debug update. Just use the next version up from your current firmware version for the retail update.

    All the news here:

    http://www.ps3hax.net/announcement/4809-install-debug-fw-retail-ps3.html

"After a long time it finally seems that there might be a break through for the PS3 hacking scene. XVISTAMAN2005, has found a way to partially install a debug PS3 firmware on a retail PS3. Partially meaning that he has found a way to get a retail PS3 into debug mode, but currently the options are non functional.

Additional changes when the PS3 goes into this mode is that the Blu-ray drive no longer plays blu-ray movies.

However luckily, you can get out of debug mode easily by simply updating to a higher retail PS3 firmware, restoring Blu-ray movie playback functionality, and any other PS3 functions that were disabled in debug mode. (The media server feature goes away but to restore it again, insert the original PS3 HDD to PS3 and reformat - read the tutorial below so this makes more sense).

So what is amazing about this? This gives PS3 hackers a huge new area to work with that was not previously available before, plus not to mention that devs already had a working ISO loader running on a full debug console (this method currently gives us a partial-debug console).

Note: For this to work your system must be below or at 1.80 for the 1.80 debug update and below or on 2.01 for the 2.15 debug update. Just use the next version up from your current firmware version for the retail update.

Stay tuned we will keep you updated, view the tutorial on how to install the debug firmware below (as well as download links to debug firmware)."

"How to install debug firmware on retail PS3:
    Tools needed:
    • 1 PS3 system
    • 2 PS3 hard drives that are the same size
    • 1 retail firmware upgrade (DOWNLOAD HERE)
    • 1.80 Or 2.15 debug firmware (DOWNLOAD HERE)
    Instructions:
    1. Format both hard drives on the PS3 system.
    2. Download a debug PS3 firmware and place it in USB stick, and start the update. This will copy all the debug firmware files to the PS3's HDD-A.
    3. After copied the PS3 will restart and you will see the normal update menu which prompts you to click the [IMG] button to start update. Do NOT update your PS3, but power it off.
    4. Next remove the HDD-A, and place in the second HDD, HDD-B in the PS3.
    5. Download and copy a retail PS3 firmware to a USB stick.
    6. Again as before place USB in PS3 and update the PS3 as normal but when you get to the screen where it asks for you to press the playstation button, do that but stop when it asks you to AGREE to Terms and Condition Page.
    7. While the system is still powered on and on the update screen, REMOVE HDD-B, and insert HDD-A.
    8. After swapping the HDD's continuie to update the PS3 as normal and the PS3 will install the debug PS3 firmware!
    9. Go to the settings and check firmware version and there you will also see the debugging PS3 options"

I am downloading all of the files for us right now as their system is not firefox compatible. It causes the whole rar to spawn as a html page, which is not so great loading a 104 mb file as a html...

Nope, they will just put a firmware check in the game itself.

You'd have to find a year old ps3 new in box.

Or use infectus to downgrade the firmware?

I have a 60 gb starter pack in my house (unopened), I'll check it later the firmware version.

I don't think this plays debug games due to the registry/idstorage keys being set for retail.

It would be nice if someone could test

Is the 2.15 Debug Firmware still the latest Debug Firmware out so far?

I'm slightly curious why the debug functions are disabled? Is it because there is missing hardware? whats the actual difference between a retail PS3 and a Test PS3? Is it anything like the Xbox 360 debug where you can attach the sidecar for kernel debugging? pardon the noob questions.

I don't have a PS3 and to behonest wasn't planning on picking one up for personal boycott against sony for my own reasons, but this
    might sway me... dunno...

Also what is this infectus some god modchip for all consoles?
