never had an fm marty mcfly, not even played on one, i know of a few coin-op ports, just never got the luxury of a night sat in front of a 'nuclear powered sucker' blitzed off my tits, playing til the fail kicks in, i'd buy that for a dollar! :smile-new: ... tough choice, the fm is a curious machine, just not had fun with one...yet! cd32? that ship has sailed. my bias ends there! take the plunge and get a fm towns marty...or whichever you can afford/get the most use/enjoyment out! :witless:
Yeah I guess the FM Towns marty it is then even though I heard some of the floopy games don't work on it like the ones that uses more RAM memory I believe.
Reading through this I noticed that I did leave some great N64 games out of my earlier post. In addition to the ones already mentioned by others, Pilotwings 64, Diddy Kong Racing and WCW vs. NWO Revenge. Although I do agree the controller was a tad bit wonky. Despite that, I will always have a soft spot for it.
Speccy games look like those Tiger LCD games that used to be sold only a slight step up. But don't tell that to anyone that grew up on one.
Saturn because it was my first but if I could take only one to an island it would be my 360 because XBLA allows me to play most of what I loved.
Yeah, I don't quite get the like 12 different viable computers in Europe. Maybe it's because A) I'm American, and other than the C64, none of them really took off, or B) I grew up in the 90s, when it was pretty much all PC, and Mac ports like 2 years later.
I grew up on Tandy and Radio Shack computers that had tape drives... 1 hour to load 128k games. Yeah THINK ABOUT IT. If we were to load a modern game using tape we'd be dead by the the time it's done loading.
It is a pretty hefty investment, but even in light of that, and in light of the fact that I didn't pay that much for mine, I would still say it's worth it. It's one of my favorite controllers.
About the 8/16 bit computers: From what I've heard (any Europeans knowledgeable to this may correct me), the home consoles (i.e the Segas and Nintendos and all that) were often more expensive in Europe than they were in North America, but apparently there was a bit of a "cheap home computing revolution" going on in the 80s to early 90s in Europe, especially if you had a compy with a tape deck and you could simply copy your friends' games. No need to get a government loan just to afford the latest Nintendo or Sega box and all the games for it. Again, I could simply be parroting a load of old crap for all I know.
When I was on the Retro Gamer boards I asked about European gaming culture they did say computers were huge they also said that the Crash of 84 didn't really affect them and that it was business as usual.
Mainly because it affected consoles the hardest. The US market was dead for a couple years (and the crash directly caused the creation of ROB the Robot), but the various computer manufacturers in Europe were hardly effected. The Crash of 83 was by far the worst for Atari. Mattel just left the video game market, and still makes toys to this day, and Coleco had more successful computers to work with, and the Cabbage Patch Kids were big for them too.
I wouldn't mind a Coleco It's one of those odd systems of mostly Arcade ports but it's still a fun piece of hardware to mess around with.
I don't have a Coleco Vision, but I did pick up a Gemini. I almost prefer it to the 2600. It has an output port (the 2600's cable is wired straight off the motherboard), and the controller ports are in the front. Seriously though, how crazy is it that Coleco legally got away with making a clone of the 2600?
Really?! that's odd lol i thought it was just only the Dendy that was popular back then (Before the Sega Mega Drive) i can kinda imagine a Dendy vs MSX sorta battle lol
I might get some hate but my favorite system has gotta be hands down the Dreamcast. The controller to me personally is the most comfortable controller I have ever used. I also really dig all the sick games like Sonic, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Sega Rally, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia, SoulCalibur, Jet Set Radio, and so much more. But for a second favorite (and it might be cheating because its backwards compatible) would be my Wii because I can play all my favorite Wii games but my Gamecube games as well.
The dreamcast is great until you get into the OTHER games for the system. It's like England, everything is sophsticated then you leave London and find it has more in common with the Deep south than.....I have no idea where this analogy is going.
