I love the Sega Dreamcast too! more than (dare i say) the PS2, even though getting FreeMCboot on it makes it awesomier than it is!
Why do you seemingly expect to get hate for that? The Dreamcast is well loved based off of every gaming forum I have ever visited. A great console that had more potential than it ever got a chance to show.
I've been using my Dreamcast as.... an NES clone. NESTER DC, a PS2 converter the Retrocon Mad Catz Controller and BAM NES Dreamcast. I just have no idea how to exit games in emulator even using the method the readme explains. Next up, turning my PS2 in an SNES and Mega Drive Clone.
There's a .iso floating on the Internet that emulates Atari, NES, Master System, SNES and Mega Drive (and all the games released for these systems) only on a DVD-R for the PS2. Here's a video showing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLWKNOxeq8A (brazilian video, but you can understand most of it)
But it's like that for every system. About 60+% of the games for any system are crap (yearly sports games that don't change besides the roster, shovelware, shitty licensed games, etc). The Dreamcast had more hits than average for a system with less than 300 games released in the States (I know like 700 came out in Japan)
The low amount of US games also makes for a higher shit to good ratio. Having every game for a system is daunting I found that out with NESTER DC That's why I want custom discs with the games I want to play. No unessessary roms, or Multiple versions of the same game. Ideally I want the real deal but 8 and 16 bit collecting is starting to resemble collecting rare Victorian paintings. That and getting a Famicom in the US for a decent price is a gigantic pain in the ass.
PC Engine is easily my favorite. I guess I'll go with the Duo-R/RX due to better build quality, although black Duo looks better in my opinion. Of course, all consoles have good things about them. I'm glad I can have several and not be limited to just one (even if it is as great as the PC Engine)
That is another thing with the nostalgia movement in gaming. Decent ports are enough for me so I get to laugh at all the rose tinted losers gouging each other, this isn't even a rare game (afaik). http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Man-X3-S...F8&qid=1404052562&sr=8-1&keywords=mega+man+x3
The Japanese Version of X3 is consideribly cheaper. X3 and X2 actually did have lower print runs than X1 did though. I'm not a huge X2 and X3 fan though. X1, X4 and most recently X5 have been my go to X games.
Doubt they sold little enough to validate that price, and it's silly to pay so much for a fleeting nostalgia moment or slightly better frame rate and colors. That is why purists prefer the real deal right?
One of my favorite console is the PS1, mainly because I love Jrpgs, and that was one of the best consoles for Jrpgs. The PS1 is a also a great console for imports, there are several great titles for the system which never made it out of Japan. My favorite game ever made for the PS1 is Xenogears.
I'd have to say Chrono Trigger remains the king of all JRPGs. Despite being basically unfinished, Xenogears is an amazing game though and I'll follow Tetsuya Takahashi to the depths of Hell lol. I love Xenoblade Chronicles and have a Wii U ready for Xenoblade [Chronicles] Cross (they should've called it Xenocross ).
I can agree if you are collector of a particular system then yes you would need the original copies. Other than that if there is a non crummy port I find it absurd.
A lot of times emulation can have issues, especially with sound. That's not to say I don't use emulators (because I do), but the real deal does have its benefits.
Saturn Emulation kind of sucks. Even games I thought were 100% accurate weren't when I actually had the real thing.
favorite console is a toss up between the colecovision and the vectrex. favorite colecovision game is either looping or donkey kong. favorite vectrex game is either berzerk, armor attack or minestorm. but if i had to choose a favorite, it would be the vectrex only because i could never have one growing up and didnt get my own till 1999.
