Pretty much the same conclusion I came to - except that I'm not so sure about the PSU - the only units I've ever seen that have the wide-range PSUs are the SCPH-xxx3 series (which have symmetrical non-polarized power connectors like the Japanese and PAL machines) - but the power plug on that one has one rounded end and one square end. That was only ever used on the US power supplies.

I guess it's possible they got a 7503 PSU and swapped the power connectors over, but it seems more likely that it still has the original US PSU in there - although possibly with the filter cap changed so that it doesn't blow up when you plug it into 230V. The other interesting thing is that the rating on my SCPH-7503 is "AC110-240V 50/60Hz 11W" -rather than the 17W rating that the US machines and that 9903 had.

That ROM version message is from rom0:VERSTR (for the PS1 mode?). The ROM version for PlayStation 2 boot ROMs are stored in rom0:ROMVER instead.

Based on the ROMVER string that unclejun posted in this post here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f113/simple-user-test-request-ule-61829/index3.html#post464186
...the PS3's PS2 emulator's boot ROM was probably based a debug/TEST version of one of the late slimline units like the SCPH-75000, SCPH-77000, SCPH-79000 and SCPH-90000 (despite the far later build date).

They might have decided to put in an older PS1 driver, although we won't know for sure unless somebody starts comparing the boot ROM dumps from all these consoles.

Is the PSX ROM ID source public? I'd like to make a new type of tool designed to identify PS1's.

Anyone have an SCPH-50001 (U.S. retail fat PS2 with no FireWire port) that can run PSX ROMID? That's a very likely match for the PS2 ROM in the PS1 emulator on PS3.

However, loading PSX ROMID on a retail PS2 without a modchip, which patches the ROM, is a pain as noted previously.

How about just comparing the boot ROM dumps? Or if it's the PS1 stuff that you're interested in, just the PS1-related files like rom0:SBIN?

I have received multiple requests for BIOS dump of many systems that have not been documented on the database. The requests ranging from PS1 to PS3. I can't promise that I can get everything done for the community but I would try my best as my time allows.

Take care of this one, that sticker seems LEGIT, but just wow... and I thought I was shocked when I found a effing SCPH-7002... in my country of only 300k. :p but 9903?!?! holy shit. That's probably one of the few in existance.. o_O because you can't fake a sticker like that!
but a date sticker on a xxx3 ? It was only on NTSC (xxx1) as far as i know. Not on PAL and not on any JAP i've seen.
