Hey KRIKzz if possible are you going to add a feature for games that use controller packs to save to an SD card? I'll add it to the FAQ so you won't need to answer this again
i can backup data from real controller pack to SD, and will make such feature in future OS, but emulate controller pack by cart, without rom modification, just impossible, cuz data stream directed to joypad port only, and invisible for cart's port.
It is rather unfortunate how immature some of the members of the forum I did the review on act. I leave them open for comment though because that is how the forum admins recommend doing things there. As for the score, I was going to count back and redo the scores of the other ones as well but the global magazine moderator recommended against it. Now in the case of if I would do that, the neoflash one would go down to bronze, this one would be at silver, and 64drive would be at gold. The reasons I had a while ago but I have since forgotten because I was somewhat not allowed to change the scores (even though I can). Anyway, the 64drive is as described. It came with the shell, nice logo on it, good packaging. Now, as far as functionality the 64drive required less pre-patched ROMs (most of these were 6105 CIC) while the everdrive64 needed more of the old cracks that were developed for the old big copiers. This is mearely to show what these devices have been developed capable of and does NOT mean that the everdrive64 cannot be updated in the future with these fixes. Now whether these fixes are necessary or not is personal opinion of the user. I see a full ROM set out there and various websites that you can download full ROMs from which I won't go into detail about how to get to those here but let me just say it is blatantly easy these days and that it makes me wonder why I wasted time on IRC and BBSes in the past when you can basically get a game within seconds (LITERALLY!) now without having to haggle with some boob that thinks he is onipitent in some chat channel. Anyways, should I give every product I review gold? The reason the first N64 solution I reviewed got gold is because: it did everything that the developer said that it would (for years, it literally took years for this product to see the light of day and there were tons of doubts due do that), it plays every game, and it was the _only_ N64 flash cart that was available and in the works at the time as far as doing a little web searching would go. I think that we can always expect some trolling on a web site forum. But it doesn't change the fact that the everdrive64 can play every game, is more affordable than everyone else's solution, and delivers a clean, practical, and uninterrupted gaming experience on your N64 console. KRIKzz is an amazing electronics engineer. These guys that made the other ones are as well. But which one is to choose? I'd say between the 64drive and everdrive64. The neoflash one is kinda bulky and still costs more than the prior and if I would recommend that one to people these days, I would get a rash of flame war for sure. Or maybe not. On gbatemp, all they are concerned with flaming me about is sexuality things which well I'm just a regular guy what else can I say? I guess some people can't accept the fact that they are different and have to put it on me. But I will say this one thing about the moderators on that forum, they don't seem to know what they are doing when it comes to bbs etiquette. As far as any updates go to any of these reviews, the gbatemp forum staff needs to make up their mind on what the next step is with me because at this point, I feel like I have been mistreated and dishonored by their web site. I hope everyone can understand where I stand with these above subjects and also, more importantly, enjoy your devices and games. That is what these guys made them for is for you to enjoy and have a good gaming experience. And please take the ratings of previous N64 solutions as a grain of salt because that is what was available at the time. Read through the review and don't pay attention to the gold/silver/bronze. I should have just left that out or omitted it afterward. That stuff doesn't mean anything and it does not take away from the functionality of the product. We do have plenty of people that want me to review based primarily on COST but the problem with that, seriously, is people even complain about the price of the lowest priced ones. So that isn't even going to float or go anywhere guys.
Also lastly, let's not forget that KRIKzz can build these. I cannot. He has far more skill than I do in this. His devices are nothing short of amazing. I just wrote a review, typing. What KRIKzz does requires a LOT more effort!! We all are lucky that this guy designs these and puts them together. Nobody else would, am I right? right. I believe I mentioned that in the review as well, otherwise it was a thought to put in the conclusion. Check it out.
I think your review was fair (in context), but its a shame that you did not review the newest OS. It is a huge improvement over the original. I know this is most likely not your fault, but this is what is disappointing about the review. By the time is came out it was already dated. Many people will see this review and get a more negative impression of the ED64 than it deserves (at least compared to the 64drive). Its a shame IMO that they won't allow you to redo the review, because honestly it deserves a redo. Maybe it won't change it from Silver to Gold, but at least the information would be actually up to date. Maybe an amended mini-review is necessary and more possible. I know I am personally tired of combating 64drive fanboys with their out of date and down right false information they have been spouting about the ED64 (you can see it right on your review thread). One more thing. I believe it is also unfair to compare the 64drive with the shell to the ED64 without one. The 64drive does have a PCB-only option as well that ludicrously more expensive than the ED64 PCB. I am not sure if packaging factored into your final score or not. If it does I would be happy to take your ED64 and make it Deluxe for an amended mini-review. P.S. Thanks for mentioning us in your review.
Well it was mainly based on the technical merit of the game compatibility more than anything else. I was looking for devices that run the ROMs in original form but realistically the patched ones work fine and don't crash. It also looked at the menu system and you're right I should check out the new menus. When I finished up the review, I didn't realize a new menu was available right at that time when I posted. I wasn't going back on assemblergames looking I guess but about a few days to a week later I saw it. I can still modify all of the reviews but I am having some disagreements with staff right now as far as how they perceive and treat me on the forum. I just want to be treated with the same curtousy and respect as any other forum member, no special treatment and no negative treatment. They do not see things that way so I have at this point left. I'm sure that I can take my original text, modify it, and submit it to the forum owner if it gets out to that point and have him re-apply the modifications there as well. The guy that actually owns the place is fine, but he has a very poor taste in his forum staff and they express a very bad attitude toward me for whichever reason I have no idea. I could never figure out why people on the gbatemp forum and irc sites hate me so much. I have always been a good joking person to hang out with the crew, but I have gotten a lot of flack, disrespect, and other negative actions toward me by fellow staff. So I draw a line there and they will have to find someone new to pick on if they have not done so already. My account there is still active and staff for editing the reviews but they really need to get their act together because I don't feel like visiting the place if they are going to misbehave like they have within the past couple of days toward me. Anyways, let me take a look at this update and see where I end up. I am also working on a friend of mine's xbox console trying to get a good drive in it but the place I purchased the drive from sent me the wrong one so I'm in a rut over that. I wish people could just send the proper item and leave it be at that. I mean it was already paid for...sheesh. Out of 3 xboxes one worked and needed the drive replaced and that should have been as simple as that. Also I really enjoyed watching StoneAgeGamer reviews of products and your enthusiasm toward Nintendo and retro gaming products. So I felt that since you run a shop with professionally cut and packaged Everdrive products that I would enjoy giving you a plug or two in the review. I'm glad that it was ok with you too so that worked out well. Everyone, Everdrive products? Highly recommended to buy. Price is good, compatibility is excellent, gaming experience is top notch. You won't find a better bargain for your money for original console gaming experience. I would also like to say that playing SNES and N64 on the original console is superior to the experience that you will get on an emulator for the following reasons. N64 compatibility is nothing short of atrocious on modern emulators. You will be fiddling around trying to download all sorts of emulators and end up at a dead end with various games. SNES compatibility is fine in emulators and flash carts as well but I have found that I can't make the SNES games display as-original quailty in an emulator, however on a floppy backup device or a flash cart, such as the Super Everdrive, the games look 100% perfect and play great too because everything is going through the original SNES CPU. Personally, I don't bother with N64/SNES emulators for these reasons and I would only game on the real console. What else is cool is that StoneAgeGamer sells 3rd party SNES consoles that will even work with these products. I heard that Nintendo's patent ran out on the NES and SNES a couple years or so back so these devices are completely legal to manufacture and purchase. I haven't used one but they should work fine.
@amptor Why dont you do a review of Everdrive 64 V2 hardware, considering it is actually new hardware and it comes with the latest version firmware, that should get past your problem, just be sure to mention the new Software/Firmware is allso available for the old HW revision I have seen GBAtemp review different HW revisions in past so I doubt they will have a problem with it.
The ones in his Pictures on the review says V1.01 and has a different layout to http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=546065&postcount=1 But I might be wrong,as I dont have my card to compare yet...
Gbatemp has been abusive toward me within this past week so I don't think I'm going to be back on that forum. Any forum that wants to cuss me, call me names, act like children disrespectful in this manner is not worth attending. I attempted to have the issue resolved and they flat out said they would not help me. Thanks for letting me review this product but as it stands, gbatemp is not the place to go.
From you guys when you were doing a sale of it at 10AM...quick clicks to check it out! Sold out in 15 minutes
I'm having an issue with Snowboard Kids 1 and I'm thinking it might be a ED64 issue: The game says there's "not enough free pages on the memory card to save". I have 3 different memory cards, all with plenty of free space and the game still refuses to save to any of them. Can others with an ED64 test this out to confirm whether or not this is a flashcart issue? I've had no issues saving to memory card with any other games.
guys, remember, cart can not help or make a any problem in work of controller pack saves. cart hardware is not intersect with controller pack at all. i hope we will close the questions about controller pack saves forever. memory card emulation or some problem with controller pack is not a thing which may have some bond with cart.
are they 3rd party controller paks or original ones? I've seen lots of games having problems with 3rd party ones...
I have a third party that I use, and since it obviously isn't an issue with the ED64, it isn't cart specific. I'll see if it'll save to the two third parties that I have, but I don't have an official memory card, haha. UPDATE: My Performance Memory Card Plus with the 4 different slots on it that you select with a switch saved fine onto the second slot. It didn't want to save on the first one, but I'm guessing that's because I've filled it up already. So it's probably an issue with the memory card you're using.
Amptor is a good guy. I've known him for many years going back to the SNES copier days. He reviewed what he was supplied and I thought it was a very thorough and well thought out review. He's reviewed many things on GBATemp and he goes nuts with the details and info (which is a good thing!). I could never imagine putting in that kind of time to provide a free review of this magnitude to a website whom may or may not appreciate your hard work. I don't think many people on GBATemp have experience with other devices so anything new they see is automatically a magical device to them. I really don't see anything wrong with Amp's review though. I wanted an ED64 before reading it and even more so after reading it. That being said, Krikzz is a very talented programmer and his works speaks for itself. Nothing but respect for him from what I've seen.
