While i will agree that FF7 was definitely overrated (although still is an awesome game), I would have to disagree and say FF10 was the best in the series.
We're on the complete opposite ends of the scale. I've vowed never to play FFX ever again I hate it that much. For me I've enjoyed FFXII the most although I'm sure many, many people will disagree with that.
I didn't enjoy XII the most, but I certainly I had fun with it. I remember trying to play it about 4 times, and each time I hated it and lost interest after a few hours. To me, it seemed too much like a MMO or a crappy KotOR wannabe. One day I just forced myself to play a little further, and after that I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I find it hilarious that people complained that XII played too much like a MMO or a WRPG (it did) but treat Xenoblade Chronicles as the second coming of JRPGs even though they are very similar in terms of gameplay. Not trying to say Xenoblade Chronicles is bad or anything, but why does that game get so much love for being the same thing that FFXII was hated for?
As much as i liked FF12, i got the same feeling....... it was practically FF11ffline, lol. Going back to the thing about liking FF10 the most, i dont know. It was probably the first console game that really wowed me with its graphics. Not to mention that i absolutely loved the story to it. Most FF games i play through 2, maybe three times and im done. FF10 i seriously end up playing through at least once a year.
if you like playing a film or a lasergame monorail game, really, and they kept the same with ffXIII... the first FF i've never bothered to play, and i started years ago and went from ff1 to ff12.
FFX was unbearable to me, you go to a town, explore a shrine, got to another town, explore a shrine, go to another town, explore a shrine, etc. Super boring gameplay, uninspiring story, I tried many times but failed each and every single time to complete that game out of sheer boredom, and I can try no more. I found XII to be pretty damn epic, the system was deep and allowed for a lot of customisation, the action was fluid and constant, the story wasn't the best but just exploring the environments, experimenting with the gambit system and going on monster hunts kept me entertained for over 100hrs. It's by no means a traditional FF game but it's still a good FF game.
FF is a classic. FFII is weird. FFIII is also a classic. FFIV is in the running for the best. FFV is fun solid little title with a great job system. FFVI is the other one in the running for the best. FFVII is emo garbage. FFVIII is more emo garbage. FFIX is a nice attempt at bringing the series back to being good. FFX is retarded. FFXI is an MMO FFXII is good if you want an offline MMO. FFXIII is good if you like flashy graphics, nice music, and want a linear JRPG. FFXIV is awful. </thread>
Boo!!! Tidus is in the running for worst protagonist of any video game ever IMO. And Yuna isn't much better.
Not much love for VIII here i see, i personally loved it. But alot of that was probably because it was the first one i played
Yeah, almost everyone was an annoying asshat. Auron was the only character I really liked, and I don't know if that's because he's a badass, or because everyone else sucked so he looked cool by comparison. I know a few people who are in the same boat. Personally, I feel kind of sorry for them. It's like having your first Star Wars movie be Attack of the Clones.
Indeed. The same holds for FFVII as well. It's very rare to find someone who had been into the series since the original or IV (as far as folks who don't read Japanese anyways) that doesn't view VII and VIII as overrated garbage.
So I grabbed a copy of this yesterday. Same backgrounds, PC Midi music. Upscaled but stuck in 4:3 ratio with no stretch option (not that I'd use it). Achievements are few and far between and I haven't seen the booster option surface yet. The best things about it are the 3D battle scenes, there's some nice filters going on (but also the option to disable them) and the Cloud saves (which thankfully are triggered by the same save points, you can't just save anywhere). For £7 it's nice to have this available anytime without pulling out a console or dicking around with settings. Definitely going to try and switch out the music for the original though, I think it's in .ogg format so probably easy to do.
expected as much Lame, but easily fixable LAME! What the hell Squeenix? Did you do anything that can't already be done with mods? I know true widescreen would have been difficult if not impossible in certain areas due to the pre-rendered backgrounds, but come on. Now if I want to play it I have to either stretch the already deformed looking characters (not gonna happen) or worry about my LCD getting damaged by the black bars.
Your LCD display should not be damaged by black bars, it's plasma displays that you need to be worried about.
Plasmas are very rarely damaged by that sort of thing now (not that it doesn't happen on occasion). And LCDs are absolutely able to be damaged by them in rare cases as well. It's a myth that LCDs are immune to burn-in.
It's already happened to me once. I will not make the same mistake twice. Luckily I found a decent 17'' CRT PC monitor a couple weeks ago for just this sort of thing. I'd much rather play it on a big screen 1080p HDTV, but I'm not going to risk damaging my LCD again.
