    Yes

Looks OK to me - I think the first picture throws people off because the screen shot is inside a house and the outside of the screen is black.

Nice nice nice, it would be nice to try swap the guts into a GBC case, if it can be fitted that is. For $20 it's game on.

Are you serious? Are you complaining that Nintendo couldn't do it in 1998 and the clone released who knows how many years after the GBA could do it. Oh.
Really bad engineers at Nintendo, yeah...

Both Sega's Game Gear and Nomad were backlit. Plus both of them were released prior the Gameboy color. Taken the fact that, while Nintendo managed to release the Gameboy light, but didn't released another backlit Gameboy until the GBA Sp, I'd say yes, there was something very wrong with their engineers department.

Sweet, I just ordered mine. Can't wait to try it out!

I don't think there was anything wrong with their engineer department, just their way of thinking. They were probably telling themselves backlit displays weren't important since the GB and GBP managed to outsell the Game Gear. Keep in mind, the Game Gear and Nomad had Horrible lighting which also killed their battery life quickly. I had to replace my Nomad with a Modern LCD which looks incredible plus I get 9+ hours of gameplay compared to the 3 hours I got before. Modded the Rechargeable battery with a lithium and it's worth it. The Gameboy Light had much better lighting so that's no excuse for Nintendo. They simply didn't want to put it in the GBC.

You are right about the power/battery consumption of Nintendo, compared with the Sega's handhelds, but like you said, they did contradict themselves with the release of Gameboy light. There is not excuse for not being implemented for Gameboy color, since it was successfully featured one generation prior. Hence my criticism for their R&D, one of the biggest demands back then was for the Color being backlit like light.

Yeah like he said but Nintendo could've re-released a Gameboy Color backlit model back in 1999 at least which would definitely be the perfect year to do so since Gameboy Pocket one was possible and worked successfully! What were they thinking?! But no matters people makes mistakes (^-^) so no worries

I've read that this has been checked. The LCD is not swappable to a real GBC. I also read, the sound is not 100% accurate. So don't be surprised if things don't sound quite right.

About the Nintendo not having the systems backlit. Generating light takes a considerable amount of energy. Nintendo was very concerned about battery life of their portables. This is why none had a backlit LCD until the second GBA SP. The GB Light, was not back lit. It used a different technology which wouldn't work with a color LCD. The GBA SP first model was front lit with white LEDs which probably weren't available, too expensive, or not good enough back then. I believe the Game Gear and Nomad have some kind of small florescent bulb in them which is more power hungry than LEDs.

The GB Color has a battery life greater than the original GB which was very good as well. Adding a light source from what was available in the late 90s may have severely cut the battery life. It may not seem like a big deal but unlike today, rechargeable batteries weren't included with everything. You'd actually have to buy a battery pack and charger. Anyway, I really wish there was a drop-in LCD replacement for the Gameboy Color which featured a internal light source.

The GB Light took 2 AA as opposed to 2AAA from the GB Pocket. It had a 20 hour life with the light off, 12 with it on (Almost HALF)

The GB Pocket had 11 hours on 2 AAA (1/3 that of the original gameboy's)

The GB Color had 15 hours on AA. All these models came out within 2 years of each other (GB Pocket was released in 96, GB Light in 97 and the GB Color was released in 1998)

Battery capacity for portable devices just was NOT there yet - I didn't have a cell phone with a back light until 2003, same year the GBA SP came out.

    Darn....

Exactly. Not only that but adding Light and/or rechargeable batteries would of increased the size and the cost of the handheld. Nintendo wasn't willing to do that as the market was reacting very well to the small Gameboys with the cheap price tags. (when compared to the competition)

x2, I would prefer that than buying a bootleg GB color with a backlight. :topsy_turvy:

I could really never get into buying Copied product, but this is one of those thing where having the backlight would be awesome... But the D-pad... wonder if you swap screen into real gbc,,
