One of the lakes\beaches in Port Moody, about 20 mins from my place by car:

One of Vancouver, taken from the balcony of Science World:

Some creek in North Vancouver, right next to a dam:

And finally, one of Whistler, about 2 hours out of VanCity, it's where a lot of skiing\snowboarding goes down:

Opethfan, it looks pretty nice around your area. Do you go skiing or snowboarding yourself? I used to until I came to Japan. Here it cost way too much not to mention too much hastle.

I have done, that pic from when I was Whistler was my first time.

I'd love to have gone this Christmas\Spring break, but our national health coverage hadn't kicked in (stupid immigration), and my temporary coverage didn't cover 'dangerous activities' ie skiing\snowboarding.

Maybe this winter I'll go again, but it's a bit of a hastle to get there, especially with public transport. To get to the closest mountain, Grouse, you need to take this route:

Start at Port Coquitlam, bus to Coquitlam Bus Station, bus to Braid Skytrain station in New Westminster, Skytrain to Waterfront Station in Vancouver, SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver, bus to Grouse Mountain.

That must take a good hour or two, and considering you have to go back as well, its a lot of pain to go, especially in your gear. Really you have to drive, which can be a nightmare in itself, since you have to drive through about 5 towns on the Highway, and if there's an accident, or it's busy, you might as well go back. But if you're lucky, it takes 45 mins by car, and you have a damn good time.

They keep grizzlies on the mountain though...

Lot's of people I knew used to travel up to Whistler every year, which seems odd since we only lived an hour from the local ski area.

Opethfan: I'd love to go to Whistler, but I can't justify spending all of that money going there when there are so many awesome resorts here in Washington.

How much is it to get there? I guess when you add up the cost of gas (a tank there and back?), food, place to stay for a night or 2, etc. it costs quite a bit.

Roi: my knowledge of Amsterdam is getting a bit fuzzy, is that near Amstelveen by any chance? I used to live in Osdorp years ago but I don't remember that much.

    The tree?

I'll post some pics of my hood. Former Prime Minister Abe's family lives a few streets over (no shit) yet there's a fucking delapedated house right next to mine. Ugliest shit I've ever seen.

Great thread. I have no pictures from my town but I have a few from the village where I usually spend my holidays.

It's a very particular place, the whole zone was below sea level during the cretaceus period and it's very usual to find fossils. The rocks are shaped like those on the sea side (it's actually around 200 kms from the sea) and they form a natural labyrinth, with caves all around the area. The church is not in a very good shape and it's from the XV century.

Bonus pic from my summer time in Paris. I love that place.
