Shane Kim, the VP of MS game studios had a very interesting and looked over quote: "Halo 3 is the biggest franchise for Xbox. The game is going to drive a lot of Xbox 360 sales and Xbox Live subscriptions this Christmas." "If we can't make a profit in the year Halo 3 comes out, then when will we?" said Mr Kim. Certainly there has to be discussion at Microsoft: If they can't make the xbox series pay off this year, even with Halo 3, it's time to call it quits. His statement seems like a reiteration more than an on the spot observation. So has MS had this discussion? "If we don't make a profit with Halo 3, we never will" ? Halo 3 could very well decide the fate of the xbox.
Given that Halo 3 is probably going to annihilate every sales record prior, I don't think MS has too much to worry about. Well... outside of most of the LEs being defective. Thats probably going to hurt the ole' wallet big time.
Check this article from Le Monde, one of France's most respected news papers, in a nutshell, investors have expressed a wish to pull the plug on the entertainment division of Microsoft so MS can focus on its core business, software which is highly profitable, basically it's up to Halo 3 to save it. Translation here. It does look very good, but then, I guess the same could be said about Sony, eventhough the PS2 is profitable, Sony is still leaking money hard over PS3. Grand winner is Nintendo first on the market and makes a profit on everything. Now you can start to call Xbox 360 a potential Dreamcast 2 arggh... Off to buy Halo3...
that's some BS you don't want to read anyone affiliated with MS say. Especially after you stuck with them through 3 dead xbox 360's. They have the better games this generation, and if they only had the foresight to make the console more reliable, they'd be sitting nice right now.

good games aren't a product of "generations". Good games are good games. It's merely incidental that they may appear on a new console. In the light of this, I m sure nintendo's next console will emphasize more on power (than the wii) now that they ve got their motion investment cashing in. btw, I thought you'd like a kiddy console like the Wii. I know i love it along with my 360.
RIP, although I am sure that this death of the XBox is over stated. We need the XBox brand to keep Sony in check and push for better hardware, and I don't believe the XB360's performance this time around would discourage MS from another generation. Several bad decisions were made with the XB360, but in the general gaming market this time around the XB is king. I can't see the PS3 overtaking it within the next year. I think the Halo hype is quite ridiculous.

You'll be suprised, once the FF games hit, PS3 will sell like crazy. The good games are 1 year away or more, but by then it will make 360 look like a 2600 by comparison, that is if Sony can keep it together until then.
The rumours for the 299GBP/ $400 price point would change things a lot if they turned out to the true. Sony are debunking them as speculation at the moment though.
There's like 11 million 360s out. Halo 3 is selling like mad. Prelim work on the NEXT XBOX is already underway. So yeah I don't like the XBOX is going anywhere. I also don't think Final Fantasy and MGS4 alone will sell PS3s either.
The FF craze is one of the most pathetic phenomena i have ever seen in the gaming world :crying: However i agree with your point.
MS's stock went up today cuz of the release. If I heard the TV correctly it was something like 60cents????
MGS 4's exclusitivity is in the air. FF XII might be exclusive for now but with Square Enix looking to expand internationally that might change too. The PS3 is Sony's N64. I'll get one eventually and A wii but right now I'm barely able to keep up with my 360
Nope. Halo 3 is going to give X360 a boost. Even though I don't care for it, it's a huge title, highly anticipated and hyped. It's going to sell systems and make a nice profit. I don't see why people think the PS3 is going to slaughter everyone. But then again I might agree if they lowered the price and had a Xbox Live comparable online service.
