They're gonna have to seriously optimise their code to get something decent on the PS3 so far all I've seen is so unimpressive, I guess they should go back to assembly code lol like on PS2. I've got enough of the bold statements from Sony, console has a disjointed architecture, low VRAM, last minute GPU... an ego bigger than the moon and most importantly no games... great offering...360 rocks!!! Who wants this console when you are told that the games that will really make the most out of the console are 6 years away, future proof my ass, maybe FF will sell shit loads of PS3, I won't buy one for FF, I hate FF, most boring game on earth for me, I'd rather play GX4000 than FF and don't get me started on Gran Turismo and their online service. Xbox 360 is the way to go if you want to play now and later, PS3 is more than later, I probably end up getting a free one from a repair like I did for the PS2 years ago... I am pissed enough with the PSP not to get a PS3... Sabre360:110:
I doubt FFXIII or MGS4 are going to make THAT big of an impact truth be told. The MGS series has sold less and less with each release and now ALL of the people that made FF good (read: Sakaguchi and Matsimoto) are gone from Square. So now all Squeenix really has is Dragon Quest, which is going to the DS of all things. Honestly, I don't see Sony ever recovering. After this holiday season I think the 360 is going to pull back ahead just because of the phenomenal library its building up in the next few months, and after that its just a matter of time before developers realize that the only games selling on the Wii are the ones made by Nintendo.
Low VRAM? In terms of overal RAM the PS3 has the same as the XB360, it's just that the XB360 uses unified memory. That makes it more flexible for some types of game. In the future (some games are already using it) texture streaming will be more common, for which 256MB is plenty. That is when Blu-ray will prove more useful and full clock main RAM will potentially give the CELL a slight edge. You have the XBox360 with a more versatile GPU and the PS3 with a more versatile CPU. I also don't think either machine has a "phenomenal" library of games. The XB360 has more AAA titles, but the major of the games are hardly stellar. That so far is my biggest gripe for this generation.
First of all, Halo3 is not X360s last chance, in fact if you saw the ending (the part after the credits) you'll see there a Halo4 in the way. Say we had to find a point when the X360 was "on the edge" that was during E3 with almost zero hype (granted, the entire show sucked, which made the MS part look not that bad) and the announcement that not only they knew about the RLOD problem but that they were going to use a lot of cash to solve. If they could survive that blow, they can keep going even if Halo3 isnt "teh shit". Dude lets face the truth: the fact is that nintendo went this way with the Wii becos the GC with its technical superiority (to DC and PS2) didnt do anything to take their market share back, while the GBC not only crushed better competitors, but the GBA and DS did that as well. Therefore the reason why they're selling an overhauled GC is becos people bought a GBC/GBA/DS back in the day, and as long as this works they are keeping the course straight ahead. So, if nintendo wins this gen, the industry losses, big time...
Oh load on demand texturing agreed smart technic, maybe Blu Ray will prove useful in that case 36 Mbit/sec at 1x. I don't pretend the Sony's guys to be idiots, just arrogant. "We will win!!! 'cause euh...hum...'cause well we won twice already!!!" I think there is plenty to be entertained on the 360, I just didn't see anything specific on the PS3 worth to buy while spending an afternoon with one and access to a lot of games. This will surely change in the future. I think I'm gonna need more than just pretty graphics to change my mind, I mean HD graphics are already so 2007, maybe I should get a Wii or something...
Wins? Well , XBOX is not making any profit so far since its release, the PS3 has yet to make revenue and the Wii made monies since day one. I think nintendo has a clear win in the accounting department, hence it has already won in my view - the userbase of the Wii by next christmas will be undeniable large, and considering the profit per console I don't see them losing this lead not to Sony, not to Microsoft. Unless you meant something else by "wins"? Please define
Halo 3 : The death of the xbox? I can only wish. Ive had enough of them failing on me. There is no clear winner of this gen.
MGS4 is sort of a interesting game: It will sell systems, but it will also be a main game available for gamers who already bought the PS3. Basically, it will be something people pick up because there is nothing ELSE to pick up. You also have to keep in mind the market: MGS2 still sold a bunch, but it went up against GTA3, FFX, and Halo within the same timeframe in 2001. MGS3 had a similar situation: San Andreas and Halo 2 came out at the same time MGS3 did, and it still sold pretty well (Not record breakers like San Andreas or Halo 2, but still high). FFXIII is going to be interesting...I doubt we will see it until late 2008 in Japan and mid to late 2009 in US and PAL regions, knowing how slow square is with development. Sony is going to need a lot more then it has right now, since it lost Dragon Quest to the DS and GTA going multiplatform. As for the 360's and Microsoft's future in the gaming market? I remember thinking back when it first came out that it would be doomed to fail. Microsoft has since then come a long way, and has managed to do things right that Sony has failed to do this generation. I don't think they will die that easily, but they do need to get the production cost down and fix the damn Ring of Death issue.
Spoiler removed ..... Thats a joke: I wont tell you what happens after the credits roll, and btw you need to complete the game in the highest difficulty to get the complete ending. Not really: you could say the Xbox hasnt made any profits since it was a $4 billion hole in MS's wallet, but if you mean the X360, actually already has, but it kinda gets dwarfed by the size of their previous debt. With "winning" I mean in the strict sense of what you could consider a battle: not by the actual factors (like profits) but the numbers, sales numbers to be more precise. So if at the end of this gen the Wii gets a considerable leap when compared to X360 and PS3 then we can say nintendo is the new market leader, and that the industry is doomed to become a reflection of nintendo current strategy, which is recycling past products and making a profit on anything as long as enough people buys it. That will continue until the consummer, being fed up with all that crap stops buying, thus destroying the industry in another market crash like the one from 1983-4. This will be a double paradox since not only will there be a crash like the one so many people denied it was even possible, but it will be created by the console that was claimed it would revolutionize the market with innovation. Obviously none of that will happen as long as the X360 and PS3 remain market leaders....
At least Sony have the Playstation 2 to keep making money for them, what do Microsoft have? Next to Bill Gates small change pocket? The PS3 has had nothing really of any major note, a number of good games, just more hype and not substance in some of the games. Still I wouldn't trade my PS3 for an Xbox and 100 games...
I always thought 360 was a pretty cool revolutionary console, what with Live and all that, but it sucks how money ruins everything, what with it making no profit. I guess that's the RROD's fault.
Well YES my Halo 3 LE had scoffs but NO it's not major enough for me to have filled out the form I filled out just in case. and WOW.........This is a system seller. Remember Gears was a big hit for Microsoft too. and MS' Stock went way up too. Microsoft is gonna finish this fight The Wii will stop selling when people realize there are no games for it.
Godofhardcore, are you barring the possibility of some amazing exclusive Wii games? I don't know,i m pulling this out of my ass, maybe say, Super Smash Bros Brawl?
And mario galaxy..........which together with metroid represent the super awesome number of 3 games for which you have to pay $250 for a revamped GC! Seriously, what keeps the Wii in its current sales numbers is pure hype, and when that runs out not even a shitload of great games will be able to raise sales above those of X360 and PS3. The problem I see with the Wii, beyond the hardware limitations, is that the control scheme doesnt works with most game genres, and if they do is just after a lot of work has been put to make it so (Red Steel-Scarface VS Metroid 3) which with nintendo's third party support I'll doubt will be possible at all. The GBC with its archaic technology was able to keep the portable market in nintendo's grasp thank to the lack of any serious competition outside japan and pokemon. The Wii doesnt have a killer-apt (in fact the console is the only killer-apt!) and it has 2 bigass competitors right behind it, what are the odds?
stop it, will ya? you can't base an argument on your personal opinion. The Wii, like it or not, weaker or not, is not a GameCube. Else an XBOX is a PC as well - although we both know that they re very different platforms sharing components. Also, games are a matter of taste. Just because you might not like Wii's games this doesn't mean other people won't like them. Alas, the world doesn't revolve around you=)
I'm not, the problem is that this is exactly the same situation we got with the N64, sans the hardware part: a lot of hype and some really good games. I want to make an emphasis on some becos since the N64 every nintendo console (non portable) has been plagued with few games on a long release basis, which ultimately would outweight the fact that those few games were very good or even excellent. The Xbox now you mention it had the exact same problem, but was the Halo mania what it kept it from being in the exact same situation than the GC. It was a financial failure anyways (and a big one) So basically, what I'm saying is that 3-5 games (if you count Sports and Zelda) dont make a console last when the rest gets that number every quarter. If the hype dies nothing will bring it back, but nintendo can stop that by keep releasing good/great games. So what I'm saying is that they shouldnt wait to sales to cool down and then do something about it...
Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, Trauma Center, Mario Party 8, Elebits, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves. Few and great games. But there are tons to come....
Yes It's been established the Wii sucks. Why? Besides it's a gimmick, Nintendo games are niche and never mature. 3rd parties don't support their consoles. Nights which I thought was going to be the reason I got a Wii is going to completely blow. Virtual Console is just a means of making money on games you already probably own or can get for free at least on Live arcade you can boost your Achivement score (and really what's our reward for racking up achivements anyway?) Seems most wii's being sold are just being Resold on Ebay or amazon for an inflated price. You know what the Wii needs? Katamari. Then again I said the Wii screams for Nights.........and it might not even have motion controls.
