More of a fancy way of saying, "The 32x and SCD were the biggest mistakes since the decision to elect Bush." I read an article about Sega's top guns during the Genesis\Saturn eras on Sega-16, and from what it said, the animosity and tension between America and Japan led to a lot of bad moves, like the US developed 32x, why the Genesis was so popular in the US while a failure in Japan, and vice versa with the Saturn. Plus the early Saturn release and price compared to the PSX were all bad business moves, not issues with the games or systems themselves (save for maybe the Saturn's design of a 2D system in a 3D age).
That really long and horribly biased one that basically stated SoA could do no evil and SoJ could only do evil? Saturn: Only successful Sega console in Japan. Why? Decent RPGs, great shooters, excellent port (for the time) of Virtua Fighter 2. The 18+ games didn't hurt either.
Anyone see that some Halo 3 Special Edition consoles have the 65nm cpu? Not all have them, but apparently some do.
If this is true then I see a X360 in my future;-) BTW, if anyone here is planning to go right now for one of these, check if it is from the lot # 730 since as far as we know thats the one that has these chips.
Well first you grab the X360, then you check the back, and then you can see if it is male or female. About the lot number, no idea dude.....
The lot number is a sticker on the box the system is in. Right now it is hit or miss. If you wait for older stock to bleed out of the retail channels you are better off. However it's not like 90nm machines are doomed. Forinstance my very first machine would get extremely hot when playing. The top of the machine was very warm or perhaps you'd say hot. My second system, I hadn't really noticed till recently, but while playing it, the system never gets hot, just a bit warm which is unavoidable really. Anyway if you can wait, just wait for the 65nm cpu though you don't nessisarily need to do that. Also they're pretty sure it's still the 90nm GPU which is generally the trouble area anyway in older systems. I mean it's a nice thing to hear that the Falcon CPU is here and the GPU should follow soon but it's not that big of a deal, my system is fine. I think they say the 65nm GPU is expected sometime early next year.
Well next year is only 2 months away. As I heard they expect it in january, though I don't know if they mean thats when they start making them with it, or if thats when the first shipments would be expected to arrive in the retail channel or what. Either way in a year I'd expect nearly everywhere would have nothing but 65nm. But like I said, it's not a big issue. Many who bought the Halo 3 SE system noted they didn't have the 65nm (they had a heatpipe atleast) and they said they ran noticably cooler than their previous system, just like my own situation.
It's OFFICIAL. If any of you guys have the legendary edition of Halo 3 check out the Essentials DVD disc one. Watch the testing segment. Skip forward until you see a bunch of guys play testing and the bungie guy wishing he could help the testers. In that room you will see me. I'm wearing the red hoodie on the left. The next shot you'll see a great view of my back. I am officially immortalized in Halo 3 lore. I just wish it was on a standard dvd so I could rip it and take a screen shot... check it out.

Not all Halo 3 SE Consoles have the 65nm Processor. It is impossible to know from these early reports if one with a 65nm chip actually died from the Red Ring. And even if it did, there are other potential causes. I think it's just people trying to pile on.
