your funky Tool makes me want one too!

Are most of the insides the same with the standard "old" tool? is there a difference in materials or weight?

    Thanks.
What is written on the white sticker?
Do you have a manual for the T15k?
When you find the time to unscrew the metal plates, do it!

LOL @ UJ! Matt we are a very demanding lot. For anyone who isn't aware, Matt is busy in a shop dealing with consoles all day long so he might take a bit of time to get around to all of this.

Thanks to UJ who proof read through the "PS2 Tool disassembly guide" I put together. Apparently no mistakes (bloody hell!) and just a couple of things / tips to add at the back of it.

It's by no means comprehensive, it's purely a Haynes manual for the Tool and not a users guide! I've used photographs for every stage and once I find a place to park it that everyone (who wants it) can grab it, then you are more than welcome.

As and when other Tool units (such as my second T10000H) arrives and people find more / different parts, I shall update it. If you find ANY oddities (such as Matt's blue unit), I would appreciate images and an explination of the part, where it was located and it's wiring (plus its function if you happen to know).

Nothing of interest on the white sticker - just 'firmware subject to license'

i have removed the metal covers and i dont think there is anything underneath - just a vertical row of small holes, looks like a bit of ventilation maybe - nothing more interesting i dont think?

It's strange to screw metal plates with nothing beneath...
I just notice the t15k lacks the svideo input.

You'll have to remove the golden metal stuff holding down the inner covers to get to the boards (its a pain) and you will loose your warranty LOL :p
If you really plan to do it it's maybe handy to wait for Parris's howto dismantel your PS2TOOL doc ;)

PS: you should remove the cover that has TOOL written on it, the other side might be just empty metal covers.

Matt, have you sorted out your FTP site yet? More than willing to send you the guide.

The panel marked TOOL is the panel that needs to be removed.

If anyone is hunting for an official PS2 USB keyboard & mouse for the PS2 Tool or Linux kit, then I can obtain them in Glasgow for £4 per set plus P&P. UJ tells me the keyboards are easy to obtain in Japan and very cheap, but the mice are difficult to obtain.

The seller has a large number of them (roughly 15boxes!) so I should be able to assist every member requiring one. If you do then PM me. I can only do this for a limited time as the company are moving offices.

The keyboard shows often on Yahoo but I never saw the mouse being sold alone.

Parris, I can host your guide if you want.

Just updated with the information you mentioned re progressive scan, the keyboard and locking (password). I shall send the finished document and would love you to host it if it's okay. Does this allow everyone access? I.e. your fine with it... of course you are you offered - doah! Just making sure. ;-)

You made a mistake in your new version, the usb keyboard and mouse will work only on the PS2 side, you still need a ps/2 keyboard plugged if you want to access the linux side.

I've found that the vga output works and displays the PS2 output, but you need to use a monitor that supports low frequency (15 or 30Hz, hence the Out of range message)and you can't use the multi out and the vga at the same time.

I hope I'm not driving you mad ;)

LOL - no, I have not tried the keyboard & mouse out as I only got them this afternoon, so it's great to know ;-)

This means I need a PC keyboard plugged in ALSO. The PS2 Tool is a cumbersome son of a bitch!

I'll PM you the password for the ppt and you can update those sections as required rather than me upload again.

    Thanks UJ!

To keep it cool you might want to use a cheap usb-ps/2 converter so it works under linux (as its kinda useless on the ps2 side)
