Fag is common word in the UK for a cigarette.

Something offensive in 1 country means something else in another.

Fanny is a good example too, very different meaning in the us to the UK.

It's past 6PM, better go home before you get grounded.

I have gay friends, and they don't get offended by fag or faggot. It's the 21st century...

What fiasco? The only thing I saw from it was your anger for Tatsujin's (sometimes repetitive) jokes on PC Engine.

Dude. I wasn't the only one. I was just the most outspoken. But it doesn't matter. I joined their ranks and plan to buy a PCE.

This. The forum, no offence, has a dated, childish look to it.

Bring about another theme contest maybe? Either that or I'll just make one for Stylish.

I found the look before the script change much better - the old, red/black one, to be precise.

Wouldn't wanna go near the faggot debate. Words mean what they are associated with and 'fag' is associated with homophobia, historically since the early 20th century. Why keep using a stigmatized word unless you support the meaning behind it? It's not like the meaning only changed two years ago. I might as well post swastikas all over the place because I claim that I refer to the old symbolic meaning of luck and sun, but yeah, it kinda represents something else to most people, so it's probably not a super good idea to use it...

    You funny. You're funny guy.

    In America.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_(food)

Since 1851! and still on sale to this day over here. As is fag used daily by millions to mean cigarette.

    For the American version:

Offensive in 1 country, isnt in another. This is why you cant filter the internet to appease everyone - there would be nothing left. Just because Americans wish to use existing English words differently, doesnt make that the correct use of them :)

Meanings change. Kind of like Gay used to be happy. Then Homosexual then when I was a kid if you said "That is gay" it was the equivalent of saying "That is lame."

It's too bad context doesn't exist to determine whether someone is using a word in an offensive way or referring to food or cigarettes.

Context doesn't exist for filters, please try again.

Also people are saying the word is offensive, which is a matter of where you live - which is my point. He said its associated with homosexuals, which I'm showing is an American point of view.

So the general consensus is we don't want a filter. Now lock this thread or else the fore will grow bigger and bigger.

Gay still means happy, you'll notice it's in a few Christmas songs still. Kids saying that something is gay are being homophobic just the same as if you say you got gipped/jipped you're being hateful towards the Romani.

I found it weird that it's censored in shopping centres/malls around here (if or when christmas songs are played). People are way too easily offended these days, what was it like in the 70s and 80s? Did people get charged for saying certain words? Kids being suspended from school for saying 'gay'? Hell Gay was a female name in th early days wasn't it?

calling something gay eg "man that's gay, i lagged n got fragged" is not homophobic

homophobic would be more "you're gay and i hate you because you're a man who likes men"
