A PlayStation 2. Never thought I'd own one because I have no interest in Sony consoles but I do own one :) 90% Sega games for it mind you :p

I would have to say Japanese imported games, something that i'll NEVER thought in my lifetime as of now EVER thinking about owning nor having the accessibility of getting a couple till last year that theory of mines was proven. Now i constantly collect 'em alot well majority of it being mostly only Sega Saturn, Super Famicom, & PlayStation 3 (soon the PlayStation Vita & 4)

I don't really have anything rare, as I don't have enough free time to play the games/systems I own, let alone hunt for rare things that I might like. It still amazes me, not that I had so much free time as a kid (that's obvious, now I have work/relationship/unpaid PC fixer for friends and family/etc I expect to have little free time), but what does amaze me is how much quicker time passes the older you get. When you were a kid, three hours, for example, could feel like it went on for days, but on the very rare nights when I do get three (blissful!) hours to myself to play some video games, the time seems to whizz by!

I'd love to get a couple of arcade machines, and I've been wanting to build a MAME/jukebox cabinet for years, but I keep putting it off until I'm living in somewhere with more free space.

A Mac... that I haven't even gotten round to using for its intended purpose (a bit of Dark Forces in sweet sweet high res) yet. (And yes, I know about DarkXL, but that's just not the same.)

I never thought I'd own Delisoba Deluxe and an Epoch Electrotennis unit. I also never thought I'd have a complete set of Koei Premium Packages and Value Sets... well, I still don't, but at least I'm only 4 short now and I already have the rarest ones (out of 13).

I would never have believed I'd end up owning a Neo Geo AES!

I never was interested in getting a PS2, I switched pretty quickly from a DC to Xbox allegiance (Halo and Shenmue 2 were system sellers), and getting a GC was so cheap and it's the only place to play Melee, so that was obvious. Eventually I got a PS2 for some reason.

There are just so many things that I never thought I would own that it is hard to tell about one specifically.
Some years ago I would never thought I would own so many $100+ games and more recently I never thought I would pay £180 for a demo.
Having some good friends at this hobby certainly helps getting some rare (and expensive) stuff. I just could not imagine spending this kind of money and not regretting it.

A complete in box copy of Mario paint.
It's not that rare or anything, it's not special or hard to get...
But I'm more of a gamer than a collector, so I tend not to give a concern about boxes - It doesn't enrich the gaming experience and boxes just have the potential to get damaged, so... I don't bother.
I got this copy for a little over the cost of what it usually is cart-only, so it was a steal to get the mouse and mousepad with it too.
Add to the lack of expecting to get it because... As a console gamer, a children-centric Ms paint program on a game cartridge isn't really my bag.
It's actually quite entertaining and thereputic to play with, to my surprise.

As a fan of classic resident evil, i have to say: The 1.5 vanilla build, and the GBC version.
Still waiting for Resident 0 64, or earthbound 64.

When I found out about that game I really wanted it too, If I recall correctly at the time I picked it up for about $11 shipped and couldn't believe how accurate the old ball mouse was. The fly game was pretty fun too.

Were they far enough into development for Earthbound 64 to even make a cart? I don't even know how long it was being developed for the 64 and not the DD for.

Yep. Just quite recently aquired a "DC Control Set" hardware unit.
Its pretty cool to have it as part of my growing DC collection of stuff.

As someone infamous for my occasionally sprawling rants on the subject of certain unreleased Saturn prototypes, it's been great over the years to gain the trust of fellow enthusiasts and collectors who've either given me information that's not exactly common knowledge or even allowed me the opportunity to sample a few of what I consider to be the biggest "holy grails" in a hands-on capacity, although the various leaked development builds of the first two Resident Evil games have to be up there as highlights, too! In terms of commercially available software, I've sadly had to sell quite a lot of the major titles, including a near condition PAL version of Deep Fear. As for hardware, there isn't really anything I'm that interested to get in the future apart from maybe that working Neptune system, and I don't think my other half would ever let me justify putting aside that much! On the other hand, I'm still trying to convince her to make room in our house for a deluxe Virtua Fighter 3 cabinet... and possibly SCUD Race Plus as well, but I might be pushing my luck with this one.
