    Do you add mds/mdf support?

    GDEMU SD 1.04 Beta

The big change is the Menu from neuroacid and it is in beta stage so he needs feedback

    The changes are the following

    Menu:
Boot method changed (now skips the animation and goes straight to the licensing screen)
    Region check patch
    VGA check patch
Also added a patch to the bios syscall to reset the console when you press the in-game soft reset combo (abxy+start).
This will allow you to use the "reset_goto = 1" on the gdemu.ini to get back to the menu after resetting.
For now to start a game with the patches enabled you have use Start button instead of A.
It's possible that some games may not work well with this boot method and start to misbehave after booting or during game play.
So it still needs some testing to make sure everything works well as possible.
    -neuroacid

    Program:
    Added the menu :D
Added the "reset_goto = 1" to save automatically in the gdemu.ini
    Fixed the fat Detection

So if you use the new menu you don't need to use my program for region + vga patching because the menu do it on the fly.

Nice update neuroacid and madsheep! I particularly like the soft reset combo trick! We can now change games like real couch potatoes!

Any chance a future version could take advantage of the serial sc-card (or even better, the gdemu one, as it seems you're already writing into gdemu.ini!) to store the game list so we don't have to rebuild it upon adding games?

    Cheers!

    FG

[EDIT] NightbreedUK made me realize I had read that wrong. The gdemu.ini modification is done in madsheep's program, not in gdmenu, so there's no indication he can write to the gdemu sd-card. I still think the serial sd-card support would be a nice feature though. Or vmu support, with gz compression to save space.

Thank you neuroacid and madsheep - your efforts are always greatly appreciated :)

Unfortunately I don't think it is possible to write to the GDEMU SD card as neuroacid told me it is mounted as a ROM filesystem - though the serial interface idea sounds interesting :)

The VGA patching works well (cannot test region patching due to having a multi region bios)
    but...
If I try to run a game without patching (pressing 'A' instead of 'start') the console boots without skipping the animation (resets?) and then due to the "reset_goto = 1" in the gdemu.ini file the menu loads again rather than the game.
Nevertheless the GDMenu is awesome and I am grateful that neuroacid has continued working on it :)

Heh this version wasn't supposed to be released out in the open :/ but whatever, it's still WIP so that's why theres no option to turn on/off the patches and you can't use the A button.
Also it breaks some games, this is caused by KOS, the kernel sets something that causes problems with some games. Unfortunately I haven't been able to pin-point it yet.
I know that BlueCrab had the same problem with older revs of his PSO_Patcher and ended up ditching KOS later.
So at the moment I have two options abandon KOS and rewrite a lot of stuff or keep looking for the problem, either way it's going to take some time. Hopefully no one starts reporting problems to Deunan while using this version.
Anyway use it at your own risk if you really want to, but problems are to be expected as this is very much a WIP...

On another news I made a simple menu for the Rhea, expect a release soon :)

Wish you would do one for UGC :-( but it's probably not possible.

The ability to fully soft reset the console makes me want this now. I really like the way this is going! Now I gotta get one.

    YEAAAAHHHHH !
Wow man, you're fantastic. Really !
Deunan, you and madsheep are really the ultiamte team of ODE.

    Hey madsheep,
may I ask something ? please don't laugh..
There is something i don't really understand in GDEMU SD/GDmenu combo.
Actually, when i set up my SD card, i use your soft, create a first folder and point the disc.cdi file to it, as i will do for any game.
In your last revisions of GDEMU SD, you seem to have integrated the menu (or at least it's what i understood), does it mean that i don't need to set the disc.cdi file for ther first folder ? Is it something automatic ?
Thank you for your work !

menu is always generated automatic in all versions you only need to tick the menu option in the right check box :D

I've already noticed that but i thought that i still had to install the disc.cdi of the menu in the first folder, and that your menu option just modified the one that installed with some more features (renaming, etc.).
So, if i understand well (yeah, sometime, language barrier prevent people ffrom understanding the slight difference), using your soft :
    - i can set a game in the very first folder.
    - by ticking the menu option, it will create the menu with its own options (renaming, etc., and no loading at start-up).

And so, if i tick and set your menu option, will it move my games to next folder (01 to 02, 02 to 03, etc...), and copy the disc.cdi file to the 01 folder ?

I hope you'll udnerstand my explanations.
    Regards and congrats !

    Yes

if the menu option is checked:
    1) All previous GDMENU copies will be removed.
    2) A new Generated GDMENU will be placed in the first game slot
    3) All games moved by one folder 02,03,... etc

    Ah ah!
so i was doing all the disc.cdi set up for nothing useful !! :)
The funny thing is that in the first release of GDEMU SD with menu option, i looked for the disc.cdi file and because i couldn't find it, i thought that i had to copy it myself :D

With all of these devices creating additional heat, am I correct to assume that the higher voltage will also decrease the life of internal components? My only concern is getting the Dreamcast to operate in the same temperature range as it was intended for. I know people have put a fan on the 12v rail and it has resolved this issue, but can someone explain how this is done?

Replace the psu with a more efficient one, or simply put a load (e.g. fan) on the 12V and it should be fine.

Why is it so useful to "load" the 12V line with a fan, except for the airflow ? what is the purpose of draining some more amp ?
    Thank you !

AFAIU the DC psu was designed to have a particular load, the DC one, on the 12V line, not to be a general PSU. Now if you're using that psu with no load on the 12V line, its voltage can increase over 14V which makes the component of the psu heat. Putting a load does drain more current on the 12V line, but it should stabilize it to 12V and hopefully the amount of heat produced with that load will be less than that produced if the line is floating.
