Cheers mate - it's been here for over a year with little bits added and worked on slowly but surely. Finding parts has been pretty difficult, but I am now only missing 1 x cable and 1 x plastic part. I've even got the manual, save cards and the writer cleaning card.

I am looking forward to having a proper shot as so far I've not been able to use force feedback.

Well, did you know that most of the hardware used in ID cabinets is also used in Outrun 2?

So, if I ever get bored with ID, then I can remove the Naomi 2, replace it with a Chihiro, take out the dashboard and replace it with a Scud Race dash and change the paint / artwork and hey presto!

It's a pretty useful cabinet tbh.

That looks awsome. Very nice job on that beast :) Idk if I would be able to sell that if I had put so much work into it lol

After a year of work, I am are pretty pleased to see it all up and running, but at the same time I have played the title quite a few times. For me the interesting bit it getting a cabinet back up and running rather than really playing them as I never seem to find the time for that.

Right, so here was the loom of scrambled cabling all tucked into the back of the unit. Granted, it was neat and tidy until I started to snip cable tidies, part the unused cables from current cables and started working out what was really required before putting the entirely new loom in.

    It went from this:

    To this:

And the PCBs were all moved around to accommodate the new force feedback board.

But it's half past midnight, it was freezing out in the conservatory (we are due snow tomorrow apparently) and I was beginning to get fed up peering at cables.

Looks really good so far especially sorting out the mess of cables and the PCBs are very neatly laid out.

will be nice to see it when its finally all finished and you have nothing more to do with it.

Hi, you are not so far away from me and if you ever fancied a shot of it, then pop on over once it's complete.

I was sent some images of the wiring loom from a genuine ID cabinet and it swiftly became clear that there were a number of differences and missing cables.

Converting from such an old Sega title has thrown up some issues I didn't consider prior to starting. It's also to be noted that this unit was the second unit in a twin pair of Sega Touring cabs. The significance of this is that power was supplied to the cabinet via an umbilical power supply, rather than this unit having it's own filter and on/off switch. This has always annoyed me, so I decided to drag out a schematics diagram and get to work.

The original power set up, much chopped and hacked due to it having been a 2nd unit and a conversion at that.

How it now looks, with a filter board added that smooths out the 220vac supply and also an on / off switch fitted. Better earthing and safer for the unit.

I decided to trace all the power supplies first of all. Just as well I did, as I had been sent the wrong one for the card reader / writer. Instead of 12v it was a 24v and thankfully came equipped with a different IC so I couldn't connect it up. I'll remove it and obtain the correct one. That will mean the card reader is set up.

That's as far as I can go without the correct 12v supply.

I might take you up on the offer sometime as it would be nice to see first hand the work you've done plus i've never played initial D not even the console versions.

Sure thing mate. Let me finish it off and then we can arrange it. Perhaps you can come along to my planned arcade night? I'll let you know. (Edit, when I say planned, it has been postponed a couple of times mainly because of other issues, but currently on hold until I sort out this and another cabinet).

Sounds good to me, just let me know when.

Will be nice to play some arcade game(s) again as not been to any arcade or anywhere with arcade cabs in years and even then the last time was when i was bowling and to be honest apart from Virtua Striker and a light gun game most of the stuff was rubbish

Hey, still on the long haul with this. Thankfully over at Jamma+ there's a operator who has scrapped a couple of ID cabinets and is willing to part out some of the wiring and missing parts for a small donation to the website. I'm currently waiting for another member (the legendary Oliver aka Alpha1) to go collect the parts, sift through them and start dishing them out to various members looking for parts.

Now THAT is community spirit! It should mean that in the next month this unit will be finished and all sewn up. I'll be back with images as and when.
