I can't really get worked up about the model. If the gameplay's any good I won't be paying attention to Sonic's legs anyway, right?
I don't know... 2D Sonic always had really nice legs. EDIT: Just a rumor but... Sonic in Mario Galaxy 2??
not a chance. why would anyone want sonic in a 3D mario game? they don't share anything in common, unlike the 2D stuff. PS: I will become a powerful jedi in 4 posts, beware.
my point exactly. +1 for the fanmade art, that's how he should look imo. The new "3d" sonic model doesn't resonate that well with me. It doesn't give the same feeling as the 2D games..uncanny valley sort of thing going on.
He just doesn't look like a nice animal in the actual logo. He looks mean... In the fanmade logo he's got attitude! Mario never had attitude.
I concur, while I do like the fan art 2000 times better. You gotta see SEGA really did try to appeal to us oldies and the newies.
yeah it's the "new" look. He always seems to have that angry-ish sort of grin on his face nowdays and the head is too big as well. Doesn't seem to fit his body
Quick thought- Sega can really make it all up to us with a no warehog/overworld patch for Sonic Unleashed.
If SEGA wanted a back to basics game, that was the way to go. Offtopic: does any of you have accounts on neogaf?
 Sega, why Sonic has to have that mean look and style?. Bring back the Sonic WE ALL WANT! +10 for the fanmade art!
Sonic has the look on his face becuase sega keeps putting him in bullshit games. If you were forced to partake in Bestiality in your "Comeback game" you'd be pretty pissed too no?
Sega Technical Institute were supervised for a lot of the time by members of Sonic Team, who also provided the majority of design ideas. I'm not sure of what exactly happened, but at some point Yuji Naka felt it was better if Sonic Team assumed control of the Sonic franchise. By late 1996 their mascot had long since been temporary retired while they focused on producing new characters such as NiGHTS and Burning Rangers, with the intent to relaunch Sonic on what later became the Dreamcast. However, they also felt Sonic had not been as successful in his native Japan compared to overseas, so to raise awareness prior to the release of Sonic Adventure a series of games were promoted under the "Project Sonic" banner (which also included a heavily-delayed Sonic 3D). At this point Yuji Naka had already fallen out with STI over the Sonic Xtreme fiasco and soon he would even move Sonic Team to US soil... though only after STI had long since disappeared. Despite once being so close, it's clear Sega's notorious problems with mis-management and internal conflicts brought a premature end to what had before proved such a winning combination.
