Yay, funky "lawyer lingo". I guess it depends on the definition of "effective". Somehow Sony's protection measures were effective since you can't just copy a blue-ray, put it in your ps3 and play the copied game.
Yet. Playing games burned on BD-Rs is certainly a possibility with system security broken. And I guess for pirates that it might be feasible to sell games burned on BD-Rs. If they aren't already happy selling people game install services or whatever. All you can say really is PS3's security held out longer than anyone else's.
Sony made a critical error in a fundamental security aspect. I don't see how home users are expected to turn a blind eye to that flaw just because it's "unethical". To tinker and explore is human and since the gap hole is there it would be unrealistic to expect people to ignore the possibility. It's human nature versus corporate interests and to any judge the first one should be a priority as we are a human society, not just mindless consumers.
Today, an app has been realeased that allows PSP owners to sign homebrew applications within the PSP. That means that you just have to copy the files in the console, run the application (that is also signed) in the PSP and now you can play emulators and applications. Piracy is not a problem until it becomes so easy even a casual user can do it. Have not done this yet, but I bet it takes only a few minutes to install the application and start signing games. (tough not PSP games yet, only homebrew, give it a few more days)
So I can upgrade my firmware, finally? I hope this allows the booting of game rips - I don't mind re-ripping my UMDs at all, as long as I don't have to carry all of them around.
Do you HAVE to install custom FW, or are there fake-signed dumps out 'there' that can be burnt straight to BDR discs and ran straight from the drive? (i.e. removing the need to install any managers).
I can't wait till someone releases a properly signed Lumines I PSP package. It's about time I can play that game on my GO!
Right now I think you have to use a CFW or use the jailbreak method on consoles running 3.41. I don't even know if backups on BDR disks are supported yet with the current range of backup managers.
CECHA-G consoles apparently get bricked with the CFW. Apparently only the 16MB NAND ones survive the process..not that I care much but mine's a CECHG, I'd hate to kill it
CECHG European model? I put that kmeaw firmware hack on a Slim 2000A and then a Fat MGS 80GB model I think it was. Neither had any problem. Also I hear it's the "Waniko" or whoever the Wii hacker guy is, that made the firmware that has bricked some consoles. As far as easy, the bad part is it's extremely easy atleast for PS3 to mod them now. Just update to 3.55, then install a hacked 3.55 and the apps needed. Doesn't take hardly anytime or effort at all. And no investment money wise.
It's this same strategy that makes me wonder two things: 1. Just how much Microsoft's use of the infamous corporate catchphrase, "a small percentage" was stretching the truth with the Red Ring of Death - 50 million consoles worldwide divided by a small percentage (10) still equals 5 million consoles and 2. Just how many Kinect units were brought back to returnable locations, e.g. Target, Best Buy, Walmart (everything but GameStop, essentially). IIRC they've sold about 8 million units? And none of those people had a problem with moving their furniture around, let alone having enough space in their home to begin with... What prompted me to become curious about this were all the Kinect videos we see on YouTube that are actually taking advantage of the rather basic functionality of the device, so much so that active VGA webcams could perform them (the virtual bird, even certain depth perception applications). Remember when Sony got caught making videos, passing them off as everyday consumer ones?
That was an ad company called Zipatoni who were widely and embarrassingly ousted for what they did. It was hardly the youtube blitz you're insinuating. I have zero interest in the Kinect but until I hear of an epidemic of shop returns I can't take what you say seriously.
I hate to break it to you, but true or false you still won't be hearing about it (that was the point of the post).
CECHG = EUR.PAL 40GB model. No B/c, second hardware revision that started the trend for 2 USB ports etc. What are the benefits of the CFW? I m mostly interested in being able to put some emulators and the like, maybe a PSN game from another region like Japan. Is this possible? Can you still go online to play/access the store etc?
You can still go online, play homebrew emulations or psn games from whatever region. Some CFW even claim to remove logs/stealth etc to prevent PSN from seeing you use backup/backup managers etc. but clearly these are no garantee for them not banning you by time sadly. Like for me, I only use homebrew, emulators specifically (no illigal copies what so ever) and still go online on PSN with my original games and still buy stuff on PSN, if they ban me by time just for that it will be a shame. Word is tho, that they will not ban anybody and will only as usual release new firmware updates, also there are rumors they will link future games BD serial number to consoles (max 5) but this will totally ruin the second hand market.
oh shit, the only games I buy are used games.. that would seriously make me consider piracy. I don't think any new game is worth more than 20 Euros with my current budget.. and I don't even buy games all that often anymore either due to time constraints.
Same here, I think all the games I own are bought second hand except maybe 1 or 2 that I started out with.
it's ok mate, we might not be the industry's money milking husbands but we're its great and oldest lovers
