Some hackers took down PSN because Sony was taking the maker of the custom FW to court Damn it, I was planning on some multi player action today and I cannot login http://www.psu.com/Some-PlayStation...n-in-the-US,-outages-reported--a011398-p0.php http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/12025/psn-outage-strikes-new-ps3-releases-online-play-scuppered
How do we know it's hackers? There was no mention of hackers in either article. I know Anonymous organized some attack a week ago or whatever. Are they at it again??
Probably not. They gave up when Sony hired a internet service that can hold 150gb/s attacks. I don't remember the company name, btw.
No proof really to back up that it's hackers. It could be down due to multiple reasons. I mean they tried attacking PSN over a week ago and it didn't really go anywhere and then they put out a notice saying they were going to stop. I'm betting money on bugs over steam integration into PSN.
For Portal 2, they are integrating steamworks into ps3. While in portal you can do all the same things you can in steam (including doing cross platform play). You also get a free copy of Portal 2 PC when you buy the PS3 version. =P
Just heard of this, and according to blog.playstation, it can be down for two days. Was looking forward to play MotorStorm Apocalypse and GT5 online this holiday. Not anymore...
I just hope we don't lose our trophy collection, it's been almost 24 hours already. Here is an article about Anonymous's previous attacks almost 2 weeks ago. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...us-attacks-on-sony-annoying-not-much-more.ars If it is them I wish they'd F off A bunch of other sites hosted by Amazon also went down around the same time too. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13160929
Sounds like Sony PR have found their catchall boogeyman to blame on anything they want. Headline: "PS3 sales are down" Sony PR: "Anonymous' botnet attacked our production servers" Headline: "PS3 YLOD rate skyrockets" Sony PR: "Anonymous put a virus on PSN to cause user's PS3s to shut off their fans and run F@H" Headline: "Howard Stringer's dog has cancer" Sony PR: "Anonymous gave Howard Stringer's dog cancer"
Umm you're jumping the gun in your attempt to bash sony. Sony hasn't blamed hackers at all. At most someone from Europe said they didn't know the root cause of the problem still and maybe it could have been but did not say it was nor did they blame its outage on hackers. Shitty News sites on the other hand jumped the gun to try saying the outage is due to hackers with no proof to back it up.
If psn isn't working by Friday/Saturday US/UK time, then its a hacking attempt. Theres no way they would do server maintenance on the weekend. During the week its possible.
It could be due to the recent "Rebug" custom firmware that lets regular users connect to sp-int and prod-qa networks. Might be making changes to their network structure.
If I wanted to bash Sony I've got far better material than that (I'm thinking OtherOS). I had figured this was another case of moron reporter-itis but you can never be sure these days. Either way I was hoping the examples would be taken as hyperbole and satire. Especially #3. #2 is a play on an old "Weekly World News" article about hackers turning computers into bombs.
PSN is up and working, they just banned EVERYONE xD Nah, seriously.... expired SSL cert maybe, they need to wait for verisign to send back a new one? The HDD in the DB server broke and they need to wait for FedEx to ship the backup tapes to the datacenter? Guess its something like that. Or they fix the sp-int leeching
