Highly unlikely but I suppose if one is a PSN+ subscriber than common sense says they'll add a few months extra from the expiry date of your contract. If I were Kaz Hirai, I'd scarp any bonuses and even halve my salary (including rest of the fat-cats) and put that towards the compensation pot for all the PSN users because without us SCE is nothing.
It's early days. On the other side of the coin, assuming the hacker manages to find buyers, and all these credit card accounts do eventually get pumped through blackmarket carding rings, then fraud from this case is going to go on for months or years.
Were none of the personal details encrypted? You'd expect at the very least for credit card details to be secured, especially on a network which is a prime target for hackers.
Read Hulu was giving a week's credit on PSN accounts somewheres today. I just had a prepaid CC for PSN and point cards, didn't get Plus.
Sony Sued for PSN Security Breach Class action lawsuit filed this morning against SCEA. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1164392p1.html
I've always cheered up for piracy and some months to now I was trying to stay in line, buying my games. Specially for the PS3. I was angry with Sony because of the way it treated the hackers and so on. Well, I'll be really honest, I feel bad for Sony. That company gave me great days with PS1 and PS2. =(
http://vgn365.com/2011/04/26/psn-users-reporting-hundred-of-dollars-stolen-from-them/ Glad I backed Microsoft this round.
Is there any precedence (in the US) of companies successfully being sued when their systems are hacked? Companies lose CC information all the freakin' time. Anyway, I think a class action law suit is bullshit. At least now. Most of the US problem is it's sue first ask questions later policy. Lacks tact and character. Not that customers don't deserve to be compensated in some way, but any litigation will tie up said process (and cost money).
I have to call BS on all of those. The credit card info was encrypted and on a separate server then the general user info. If people really did have fraudulent charges on their cards, it's probably from something else and just bad timing.
I've heard that credit card information was saved and transmitted in a plain, unencrypted text file. Though only when using certain CFW. Dunno if it's true. I read about it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=422027 and http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/...ing-stunning-lack-of-credit-card-security.ars
Well I haven't heard that and I have only heard what Subbie has said. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
I heard President Obama was not born in the US. If people can put so much energy into something so fucking stupid, then making unproven statements about a network they know nothing of is going to be a layup.
Could be. Either way I'm still glad I didn't get a PS3, I've got enough stress in life without needing what are clearly incompetent morons handling my personal data.
That article relates to the transfer of data to sony and not the data stored at sony. What they say is no different then if you had pirated windows on your PC, there could be built in malware to log what you're sending out. That really isn't all that surprising. Wait till you have to deal with the morons at Microsoft's call center. :banghead:
What will really scare you is I spent my £700 on PSN within 7 months or so. Mostly on games, special offer games, DLC for games, DLC for the special offer games. DLC for games I borrowed off friends =/ Sadly I am a completionist (damn my retarded brain) and I like to have everything for a title irrespective of price. LittleBigPlanet was ridiculusly expensive, Pain was too - just about every single extra in Pain or even LBP could and would have been added for free in a patch, but nope... As long as there is a sucker with no self control like me who will pay for this shit regardless, they will keep flogging it.
