Could this be related to the amazon.com server related crash? http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110421-717941.html
yep. I've never had an issue of Xbox Live being off line. True, we pay for it but the service is rock solid for the most part.
Then you haven't been on it for very long. XBL downtime of a day or so has been pretty common over the years (you can check this via Google if you don't want to take my word for it). In fairness, it's usually scheduled, which this PSN incident obviously wasn't.
You know what's funny? Two Capcom games, Final Fight: Double Impact and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, have DRM so you can't play them without logging in PSN first. With the PSN down... That's DRM and digital distribution for you. You buy something, you don't own it and now you can't even play it.
I've been a gold member since November 2009. I've had days were the main sections are down due to updates but I've never had a day when I couldn't play online. Could be different for parts of the world though.
I was a member from September 2003 until March 2009 or so and the only outages I can recall were entirely scheduled. There were some downish times like when Halo 3's beta was out and everyone rushed to get it finding that the servers were so bogged down that most people couldn't even verify that they were eligible for the download until a few days after it had started. Even at $50 a year the quality of service is so high that Live can't be beat by free.
Yeah, aside from a bit of downtime on the Xbox Live marketplace side of things recently, never had any problems outside of scheduled maintenance. I'm just glad that the PS3 isn't my primary console. Those the breaks when you have a free service (although sucks to be a PSN Plus member). And yay, free XBL Gold this weekend and a ton of games on sale!
It's only Sonic games on sale on XBL here in the UK. S&K for 120 gamer points is almost tempting just because it's so ridiculously cheap, but eh... might as well play the cart.
Actually, it's more than just Sonic games, there's discounts on: Streets Of Rage 2: 200 MSP Ecco The Dolphin: 200 MSP Happy Tree Friends: 400 MSP Phantasy Star I: 200 MSP Gunstar Heroes: 200 MSP Crazy Taxi: 400 MSP AfterBurner Climax: 400 MSP Altered Beast: 400 MSP Comix Zone: 200 MSP Virtual-On: 600 MSP Golden Axe: 200 MSP Outrun Online Arcade: 400 MSP Shinobi: 200 MSP Sonic 4 Episode 1: 800 MSP Sonic Adventure: 400 MSP Sonic The Hedgehog: 200 MSP Sonic 2: 200 MSP Sonic 3: 200 MSP Sonic & Knuckles: 120MSP The 200 point games are usually 400, the 400 usually 800 and the 800 usually 1200. S&K is usually 400 AFAIK) Deal of the week (gold members only) is: Peggle: 400 MSP (reduced from 800) Peggle Nights DLC: 200 MSP (reduced from 400) Ilomilo: 400 MSP (reduced from 800) Plants vs Zombies: 800 MSP (reduced from 1200) 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures 2: 400 MSP (reduced from 800) Your Shape: Fitness Evolved Toned Body DLC: 160 MSP (reduced from 320) Your Shape: Fitness Evolved Bollywood DLC: 200 MSP (reduced from 400) The sale is just hidden in the 'Xbox Nations' section for their own strange reasons. Tempted to go with Peggle Nights, Ilomilo and Outrun Online (already have PvZ and not fussed about 800MSP for Sonic 4).
Well, if for some stupid reason you don't have Afterburner Climax, RIGHT. NOW. is the time to get it.
Do they like to keep this stuff a secret, or am I missing the blindingly obvious? I switched on the 360 specifically to check and couldn't see anything other than the Sega deals. (edit: just caught what you were saying re: where it's hidden. Idiots!) I don't have Afterburner Climax, either... I'll check out the demo first though, not a huge fan of the series.
AGHHHH!!! Why wasn't Out Run Online released in Japan?????!!!! For some stupid reason the Japanese Xbox Live store never got many of the arcade releases such as all the classic arcade conversions and Out Run! Now I'll have to buy UK points in order to buy it cheap. How I hate doing that EDIT Oh yeah! 11 pounds 45 pence for 1200 Microsoft points! Nice! I bought Out-Run On-Line and Final Fight Double Impact. Thank God you can use games bought with different accounts on your regular account. For anyone else who lives in Japan and wants in on these deals you can buy UK Microsoft points from here - https://www.gamepointsnow.com/ntsc-uk/ They also sell EU Wii and PSN points.
what?? didn't they pull out Outrun Online because their deal with Ferrari was expired? I have it on PS3 and its a shit load of fun with a G25. Too bad the online mode is so buggy its unplayable on my system It's lame though how we only got Outrun2006SP and not the "whole" thing like back on the XBOX days.
It's already pulled on PSN, but gets pulled on 360 at the end of December. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutRun_Online_Arcade) they were forced to chop it due to size restrictions in the earlier days of XBLA. Sadly, that also affected the PSN release too.
Hey look over there! (quickly steers thread back to the proper direction still fuckin' down man This wouldn't be an issue if netflix didn't require you to be logged in to psn to work Somehow I managed to press the "o" and "x" in some magical combination like some crazed Korean teenage playing DDR without a dance mat and the wife can watch netflix. But really Sony, fuck you for your lack of an explanation. I'd be lying if I said this doesn't have a bearing on my "Psn plus vs xbl gold" debate. This and the fact that the last game I purchased from psn was 100% SHIT-TACULAR (angry birds) really makes me wonder. Then again I'm aware the gaming press is starting to point out the "age and power of the xbox 360 is starting to show" so what's a graphics whore like me to do?
