never knew they could do this sort of atrocity to a portable console. I confess to have been intrigued by the concept early on, but something about actually seeing it makes me uneasy about it. The top-weight issue of the DS comes to mind, as for example the original GBA was more comfortable compared to the other ones thanks to its wide-placed setup, this seems cramped. Also, I was sort of expecting a bigger screen..and how the hell do you transfer your existing PSP games to it?
I'll say this: the only way I will even consider buying this is if... 1. Sony also produces some way for people looking to upgrade from an existing PSP to transfer their physical media into digital format. (It probably goes without saying that those seeking to upgrade already have a disc-based PSP, so perhaps they could use that in some sort of registration scheme?) 2. Digital PSP titles are 100% load time free.
Can someone help me understand something here? Besides the storage, you have a PSP that will probably cost more but can do less. We already have PSN dload games on the PSP. In fact, you can NEVER use your umd drive if you want to. All Sony needed to do here was start pushing more games on PSN only. As far as I see it, the only possible reason to release new hardware would have been to either 1. add a second nub or 2. make it so the SCREEN is protected. All they did here was show there could be a spot for a second nub, and protected the only parts of the unit that DONT NEED PROTECTING. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand this logic at all, and the more I look at it, the more I feel shafted. It's like they listened to everyone's needs and went "ah, well screw it, le't just tick them off by doing the exact opposite". Again, I love my white PS3 and my white vader PSP 2000, but I'll be sitting this rendition out. What a shame. I was honestly looking forward to this being something grand. I was quite honestly looking forward to the possibility of Battlefront Elite Squadron working with two nubs. Ugh
So doomed. Sony has no clue do they? Once this is hacked it's the ultimate bootleg machine. I think I'll sell my ps3 sony seems to be fucked anyway, they lost so many billions it's like watching atari all over again.
It's like sony is somewhat following segas failed path. I really do feel this psp go could be a huge disaster. Unless the average consumer can barely tell its the same psp just slightly different, ie nintendo dsi.
at least the DSi supports a couple of features the previous models did not. I wish there was more value in this thing, but I guess if the price is right I can't complain
I'd say this is Sony's way to test the market and see if a download-only system can work as well as a classic one (they'll have the PSP-3000 and Go! simultaneously in the market). If this PSP Go! sells well enough, both system and games, you'll get your PSP2 with no physical format, if not, you've only doomed a redesign (and not your next gen portable console). Kind of reminds me of the PSX. Personally, although I've always been a Sony fan I hope this new system fails completely, as I hate download-only content.
Don't jinx the ps2 portable to have no physical format If that happens i need to go an start killing people -_- What comes to this thing then... 1) no disks = uhhh, NO! 2) smaller screen = what, why !? 3) i hate touchscreens with a burning passion. i suppose if it costs 30$ and runs all normal psp games properly i could buy one, but that's where it goes. Shame to see that sony just does everything the opposite it should nowadays Maybe possibly i'll consider getting a second hand unit when it's totally hacked and starts becoming rare since everyone hates it and sony deserts it, but that's about it so far. /rant
I doubt Sony cares since everyone has pretty much just been pirating PSP games since almost day one. I can see why Sony would want to make a download only PSP since UMD has been another one of Sony's huge format failures, and they could finally stop making those worthless little discs. Seriously, Sony should just dump the PSP already and make a new portable, since the thing has had the stench of failure on it for years. It was supposed to be, in Sony's own words, "the Walkman for the 21st century", but instead it has been outsold by the DS 2:1 and there has been absolutely no contest in any region against the DS. Even the media player functions turned out pretty useless, because MP3 players have become so cheap since the PSP release and you don't have to use one of Sony's crappy Memory Sticks to use them.
One thing i still don't understand is why Sony didn't used the Minidisc casing for the PSP discs... Instead made a new one, without dust and scratch protection. Dumb from the start, yes.
When I was in Japan, those Mini Disks were VERY popular. Everyone, even my host sister, had huge collections of those things. I love the design and wanted one so bad (this is all before the iPod of course). Maybe they want to just make it look new. However, they could have come up with a dust protecting new design like you stated.
I guess sony had to really be awkward becuase they made those Minidisc walkmans and i have one which supported 1gb Hi-MiniDiscs so i don't see why they never used those or a slightly moddified version to have bigger capacities?? So i'd agree with your statent Dumb from the start, yes. I think the psONE was good and the ps2 slim was also good and i got the assumption after a while they'll take a product and slim it down but the thing i fail to understand is that why did are they making this PSP Go!when they made a psp slim and lite, shouldn't they be concentrating on the next psp "psp2" or whatever it'll be called rather than messing arround with their current handheld which has been arround a while now.
Except that Sony is going to continue supporting the older model, by selling them alongside the Go, as well as providing new releases in UMD format. It cuts their user base in two parts, unlike the DSi, and offers nothing relevant to entice current PSP supporters to upgrade for, also unlike the DSi. It'll also cause consumer confusion, as this model will obviously be more expensive than the old one. It's utterly stupid.
So this will be a great time for a sega hardware comeback!! :icon_bigg Smexy....... :sexy2::drool::drool::drool: (and btw my post count is 69 O_O)
