Well if we are talking "sold in store" Xbox's that gets rid of the signed Bill Gates varients... ...The 2nd Japanese Anniversary 'White' Xbox will probably be the one to look out for, being as it is officially the most limited-sold-in-a-store-Xbox, at a 1,000 only. ...The Orta Xbox is not far behind at 1,049 consoles.
Getting the orta xbox with all the bits and pieces that come in the set is a nightmare! I would place that as one of the hardest items to find at the moment, seeing as it was only sold online (ie, to hardened fans) makes it even harder as primarily it is bound to be used, and therefore not in the best condition. Secondly the people who got one are unlikely to part with it. For some reason the white xbox was picked up my importers in great numbers so it is very easy to get. I could order one this afternoon if I fancied it. Comes in a very nice box imo. I think in the future unmodded Panasonic Q are going to be quite hard to get in good condition. Even though they pop up one ebay quite often, they are the kind of thing that settles as a showpiece of someones collection. (so not really rare, but troublesome) OT For the record the panasonic Q gameboy player is starting to dry up very quickly. Getting it boxed is proving increasingly difficult - though I know of one place that still sells them... I personally vote for the PSX as one of the harder things to obtain as the moment (I bloody want one!). Quite a few made but not exactly widely adopted so they seem to have dissapeared. I saw more of these in Japan in misc hardware stores that in game shops (and feel a fool for not getting one), so they are probably still around somewhere. Aside from that FFCC GC - FF fans are unlikely to let this one go, and they seem to only crop up unboxed (nooooo!).
You've mixed up the ortas with the white aniversary xboxes. I was leaving the Gates xbox in the runnings because it was sold in one store (the microsoft store), but i suppose that really doesn't count. Each of the "European Automobile colour editions" PS2 were limited to 666 units. They were painted with car paint at the sony factory and they're official. I would think the title would go to one of thoses odd ball gba's nintendo is so fond of making in japan, but i don't have the numbers on any of those.
For the orta as oldengineer said, due to overwhelming demand, (not something you connect japan and xbox with...) they released an additional 50 units through their website. It was meant to be 999 overall. The white xboxes were also sold online. I'm not sure which stores stocked them - if at all.
No I wouldn't do that. Hey, it's a modded Xbox signed by Bill Gates! how cool is that  unfortunately he sold the xbox :-(
i would count in the black m2 unit dont know if its really a prototype since most things indicate a early production model pictured on the right side m2 sdk and normal oh and how many virtualboys where made number shouldnt be that big either ?
Even though there probably were not many VB made, they are very common in Japan. SuperPotato in denden had about 20 of them in a pile a while back when I got mine. Was under 5000 yen fully boxed with headphones, AC adapter, etc as well. But VB may be the rarest normal console, ie not a ltd ed within a console range. Does anyone know out of the PSX DESR 5000 or 7000 which is the rarer? (I'm guessing they must be about the same)
For the USA some of the older systems that appear to have had only "test marketing releases" are worth considering. - Intellvision keyboard Component - ?4000? manufactured not all sold? - RDI Halcyon - ($2500 at release)
How about Laseractive? That thing was highly overpriced and sold poorly, and thus true to the videogame irony clause of the universe is really hard to find now.
I wouldn't say Laseractive is rare, theres usually a few on Ebay per month with a selection of games. The computer controller module is pretty scarce. The RDI Halcyon like the dude up says, now that is lewd. Ive only ever seen it in the few pictures on google. Theres a loose game for it on ebay now for $199.99!!
Last I heard the USPS bought them all. Seems they run their stocktaking software on them and it's cheaper to just buy all the Falcons than change the software Stone
Bingo - that's the one I would have plumped for. The 2 games that were made for it pop up on eBay occasionally, but I don't think I''ve ever seen a working unit offered for sale. The Adventurevision would probably be my #2 choice.
I think the winner would obviously be the saturn navi with the tuner, i think they made something like 1 and a half of those (actually i remember hearing actual production of 5). Halcyon would probably be second... i can't imagine there are more than 20-30 of those out there or we'd see them more often on ebay. I'm not sure where to put the m2, but there are at least a few hundred out there (and i've seen a surprising number of them pop up "new in box" lately...)
Marty TC Station Re Navi Saturn - figures I've heard mentioned several times are approx 2000 consoles, half that number of screens, half again for the number of tv tuners. That said I've only seen one tv tuner for sale in the last 3 years, and I only know of one person who claims to have one!
