I think they're one in the same.... take that w/ a grain of salt. Not that rare as fara s I know, but I'm not so big on Game gear. I sold one w/ no box/manual for like $30 a few years ago, and even that took some time to find a buyer. Someone has offered one in my forums for boxed for $100 not long ago (comes w/ games I think too).
Bandai gundam was a computer, so it doesn't qualify. It doesn't have anything to do with the Gundam franchise, does it?
we had those in stock a long time ago... Well, back in 1984 we had three of them in stock. Price was something like 298000 Yen I think, but I'm not sure anymore. It's been a long time since. I don't have any reference on who bought those though. :smt022 Kindaichi
How about that combined Aiwa CD player/Mega CD thing? And possibly the PAL Multimega? Sounds stupid and would probably go low on the list, but these seem VERY uncommon for a western item. Also, Laseractive's are as common as muck. The addons are quite rare, but I wouldn't call it top 10 material... and they're clones anyway.
Aiwa Mega CDs are common as well as PAL Multimegas as well as Laseractive PACs (which are not clones, they're all original Sega/NEC parts...) Its different because a Virtua Fighter Game Gear doesn't exist (of course he was talking about the Kid's Gear Anyways those are kind of rare but how about GG-WHITE or the Coca Cola ones? Those are just as "rare". In all, I think Assembler's list is pretty good except I would add in A'Can somewhere because that kills the Bandai RX-78. Anything that appears on eBay/YJ no less than every few months doesn't deserve to be on a "rarest console" list. If you guys are saying production quantity = rarity, think of PCE LT, theres only 999 of them but around the world theres always 20 of them being auctioned at a time.
rarity list okay, first off, laseractive is no more a clone than wondermega or hi-saturn, especially since it had exclusive games. secondly, let's put together a list of consoles in rarity by production and model. for instance: list sega cd and cdx separately. we should make a separate post for it.
and another thing list computer hybrids separately, like that seed thing and C64. I'd say CD-I and VIS qualify under game systems, as well as interactivevision or actionmax.
I think there needs to be some rules on where to stop. As stated before, there are plenty of 1-of-a-kind promos out there. There was a gold Saturn that 1 measly person got to take home when they were promoting net play. There were some Dorimaga promos that had a special print on the lid. (4 units total, each with a different lid).
Read the long post on page 4, those are the rules. If someone wants to make a list of special editions, they can. However, those will be seperate from the official list. I don't think we need to be listing computer hybrids here as the topic is rarest videogame system. I think these are the rarest video game systems (US) 1. RDI Halcyon 2. Pioneer Seed 3. Super A'Can 4. Daewoo Zemmix 5. Gakken Compactvision 6. Adventurevision 7. Capcom CPS Changer 8. Bandai TV Jack-8000 9. Casio PV-1000 10. Epoch Cassettevision Jr.
Are we going to have a list of rare consoles for every country then? Without production numbers we cannot solve this mystery, and since we have firm numbers for almost no consoles, I think it's time to consider putting this topic to rest. We're making lists out of ignorance - the Super Cassette Vision Jr isn't rare by any stretch (there's lots on yahoo right now). Yes, it's rare in the US, but so is any console that wasn't released there. Put another way, what's the point of making a list that's not based on facts, but on subjective belief and physical location? We'll need a rarity list for every person on here.
well, the NEC SuperGrafx immediately popped into my head. only 50,000 units made. almost certainly not THE rarest videogame console, though.
there's no such thing as a Super Cassette VIsion Junior...there are: Cassette Vision Cassette Vision Jr. Super Cassette Vision Super Cassette Vision Lady Edition also if you think this thread is stupid or has gotten out of hand, quit reading it...some people are enjoying it and learning a lot of things they don't know...just another "don't rain on their parade" spiel.
Well he has a point can-dude without official numbers this is all pure speculation and can never make the list in anny way official. But i'm enjoying reading all about systems i never heared of so keep it up, but don't call it an official list when it can never be that.
Thank you for the info Can_Dude, i have already edited the list. NFG, read the long post i made on page 4 Kyuusaku, if you don't like this thread, then go away. Production numbers are good and all, but lets face it, they don't prove anything. How many units have been destroyed or thrown away? How available are the units? These are questions that come to mind. The Jaguar CD is a rare machine, but i see three or four on eBay every week. Get it? The availability has somwhat decreased the rarity. Now, for example if it is not that available in oh say, Germany than the rarity has gone up (i think the Jaguar CD was released in the US only, but i am not sure :smt017 )
A clone can be made by the original manufacturer. It's still a clone, albiet a licensed one. The Mega Drive laseractive addon is relatively common, as long as you're willing to pay the cash for it - more common than a PAL Multimega, for example. I'm not really sure about the PC Engine one mind.
I never claimed the list was official...in fact all Im doing is reading the thread and correcting any errors and adding any input I can...this is entirely an assembler forums project that I am observing and it seems to be headed up by PC-FX Maniac. Keep up the information guys...It really is a good read, despite how inconcrete it may be... :smt040
