I would be far more interested if SNK could bother to make 16:9 versions of the games instead of stretching it or using black bars

Still at $129 its not that bad, cheaper than a 3DS

 

I was wondering, in the video at the 2:01 mark, there seems to be an option screen where you can choose difficulty and apparently also region? I don't own an MVS or a NeoGeo CD...was the option of changing region (or just language?) available in any home version of the games? I know it's not on SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1

I just decided to pre-order my gold bundle. I had been on the fence about it for awhile, but seeing as the release date has been pushed to December and more physical-copy games have been confirmed, why not?

 

Engadget hands-on preview of the console. Mentions that more games will come in a single card. No emulator save state support for games, no multitasking either (leaving the game to go the menu resets any progress done in the game).

if they manage to "open! it up allowing oldschool emu on it, and the battery lasts at least 6-7 hours i might get it along the super sweet controller

 

The menu he scrolls through in the engadget video looks very primitive. Its literally just a .gif of the game and the option to scroll left or right and pick a game. I'd imagine it won't be too hard to find an exploit and jailbreak it. Not sure whats under the hood though in terms of what processor is running for emus like genesis etc.

 

And yet they show all gameplay on a HD TV 4:3... Ha, it's stupid to have a widescreen lcd on the system if the games are not formatted that way.

 

Catching up with the Giant Bombcast of last week. Turns out they were given a not final unit.

Jeff Gerstman didn't like it. Said that it's better than the average Blaze/Tommo stuff. Games run on Home Mode, not arcade mode (No blood, credit limits). Complains that the stick on the console "doesn't feel right". Games might not be SD cards, but actually a propietary format. Games won't sell on iOS style prices.
The NeoGeo USB joysticks are "the coolest thing about this" and might be slightly smaller than the real joysticks. Multiplayer is only on the dock with two USB joysticks. Screen is fine. The dock is propietary, meaning you can't connect HDMI from the console to a TV, you must use the dock for that.

The packaging is very cool and so elegant. However the HDMI output from the console dock is supposed to be terrible. Handheld screen looks fine.

 

Seems like the handheld unit is pretty good with some minor flaws, but the arcade stick/docking station is garbage. Poor picture quality and input lag.

 

Neo Geo X has been hacked (not completely but getting there) For the moment, the ROM has to be renamed to one of the on board games in order to work, in this case the game Metal Slug was swapped for a ROM of Andro Dunos. You’ll noticed Metal Slug was selected on the menu, but instead Andro Dunos was loaded. However I imagine this limitation will be overcome very quickly.

Honestly, I think it was all part of their plan, THINK ABOUT IT, those not into this, those that just want the product AS IS will buy it and buy any future games released (though nothing confirmed yet) the small percentage that wanted this were not going to buy it as is, now they WILL buy it for this reason...........

Not that I am aware, I had a look at the neo geo x website for giggles. They list Australia on the main page, but whem you select Australia it asks if you want a uk or European power supply....

 

I didn't read all the pages here, but this device looks weak. Terrible HDMI output, input lag, sound lag, emulation issues (some background layers don't render correctly), vsync issues, AES setting (not MVS), etc. Sure the device might be hackable, but why bother when it's more like a locked-down version of other Chinese MP4 consoles? That's my opinion anyways. Though, I respect those who want to support SNK in some way.

 

Saw lukemorses rant, usually don't go by his reviews but quality of video output and emulation is appalling. Definitely pass. Not surprised considering cost and who it's aimed at.
