Okay well I went back to the shop and got the two controllers replaced for free and even got them to chuck in a free game! :p ha. Still have the issue with the disc drive but it's only minor! If I tap the tray after pressing eject, it opens rite away! It's not a crystal controller though but they are cheap on eBay so may pick one up from there then I'm happy :).

So am I rite in thinking the DVD-ROM drive can be replaced with any one, even one from a PC? I have loads spare if that's the case! Then I just need to get rid of the rust as it's annoying me! Ha

Just replace the band from a old PC drive even. If you replace the DVD-ROM drive with any IDE DVD-ROM drive you will not be able to boot original games, also if you have no modchip or softmod installed it won't be much use.

I suggest in fixing the tray issue first. It will take a total of 5 minutes to do.

Okay I'll do that then when I next go home and am able to get my hands on my spare PC parts :) (I lice away from home most of the year). Sounds easier to do that though than replace it so thanks for the suggestion :). Don't want to ask questions that may have already been answered elsewhere but it is fairly easy to softmod the console to run games from a HD?

That all depends. If you have a PC with IDE you'll be able to softmod with a larger Hard Disk that can be locked, otherwise it's not possible.

Won't specifically need a PC with IDE. You can softmod using game exploit (as long as you can get hold of the game and memory card with saved files) and then clone the 8gb hard drive to a larger one using a Y molex splitter and Chimp.

That requires extra tools though, such as the game, a way to copy the exploit, a Y splitter and some way to power the second Hard Disk for cloning... ;)

It's another method sure, but the most expensive tbh.

All sounds rather complex through reading your comments but I assume there are many tutorials out there and I'm quite experienced with computers so I guess I should be okay :). I'm from the UK so don't know what would be the best option for me to softmod it..

You can softmod easily without upgrading your Hard Disk. If you want to install a larger Hard Disk you'll need to source another drive that can be locked. This is best achieved by softmodding your system first, either by an exploit (Splinter Cell or Agent Under Fire. Mech Assault requires a certain serial number) backup your EEPROM through EvoX and FTP your EEPROM.bin to your PC, and burn the EEPROM.bin in the XBOXHDM CD-ROM image. Connect your larger Hard Disk to your PC and build a new drive from scratch then when the process is complete lock your Hard Disk with the EEPROM.bin file you placed on the CD-ROM earlier. Install the Hard Disk back into your XBOX and all done. You now have larger capacity to install games from FTP or DVD-ROM.

If you're fairly PC savvy then you'll have no problem. Here's an example tutorial - http://versatile1.wordpress.com/200...your-xbox-in-10-mins-if-you-are-good-that-is/

All you need in the first instance is a copy of Splinter Cell (available in cex for 50p) and a memory card with the right files on it. If you have a mate with a modded xbox already you can get him to copy the files/lend you a memory card. Otherwise you can buy one from ebay with the files already on it, for example - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XBox-Memo...t=Video_Game_Memory_Cards&hash=item1e79aa89db

I'd use a USB female to XBOX cable, with a crappy USB stick :p

Thanks a lot for the replies guys!! Doesn't seem too bad at all now :). Will have to see if they have that splinter cell game either online or in my local store. I'm going to clean up the xbox first and then sort out the disc drive then I'll move onto softmodding it :). Final question and then I'll stop pestering you guys, is it farily easy to take the whole plastic case off the xbox in order to sand paper the rust off it? Don't want to go messing it up :p

To remove the shielding you'll have to pop the clips off and the shielding will come off. Try not to pull at it too much as you'll warp the whole thing. The sides will be easy to sand you won't need to remove it from the case completely.

Okay thank you for that! :). I want to take it apart to clean it up but I'm worried because it has a 3 month warranty in case it breaks and I don't want to void it taking it apart..may wait then see how I feel in a month or so :p guess I could just buy another if it breaks anyway..

Have a look underneath to see if it's been opened before, many of them have. If the 2 stickers have holes punched in them, you got nothing to worry about.

Besides you're in the UK right? Xboxes around here are cheaply had off ebay/gumtree.
