I have no idea..when I opened it up and took the metal panel off the DVD drive, I just couldn't see the band anywhere..does the drive have to be open to see it or something? Just softmodded my xbox anyway and it's all gone okay I think . The pen drive that came with my USB cable already had the softmod software (UnleashX) and the save games on it so I just used those. Am I rite in thinking that the E drive is where I put all my game and things? Trying to find a way to unpack .ISOs to my HD now so I don't need to burn them to discs. Not having much luck with QWIX though..
Oh of course you have to disassemble the drive man. You'll have to remove the Hard Disk caddie, then remove the DVD-ROM drive from the caddie. Turn the DVD-ROM drive over and remove the 4 phillips screws. Then follow this tutorial I made: I'll be making a rev.B video sometime this week. Just been feeling a bit crap so I haven't made a video lately. --- Glad you got the softmod underway bro! Well you won't have much luck fitting anything in your original Hard Disk. So I suggest backing up your EEPROM right now, and FTP the EEPROM.bin to your desktop. So you can prepare a new larger Hard Disk.
Ha I'm an idiot I will attempt to fix it when I take apart the console again to put a bigger HD in it . I have already backed up the Cdrive folder and the eeprom folder so I should be good to go shouldn't I..Will need to track down an IDE hard drive first though!
Well, you have to back up the EEPROM.bin to your PC. Otherwise the backup will stay on the old Hard Disk
Yeah I have done..the backup was on the HD of the Xbox so I copied over to my laptop..that's okay isn't it? Managed to get ISOs playing from the console too . I'll be happy once I have a larger HD in there
Here's the guide I used to upgrade my softmodded original HD to a new 160GB one..it has pictures of each step along with information regarding each step and the tools and software that are required..hope it helps http://www.instructables.com/id/Original-XBOX-Hard-Drive-Upgrade/
You're welcome Glad it was able to help you too and I agree, that's why I ended up pestering folk on these forums . Got a bunch of good guides and books and articles now though regarding the mods I performed so if you need any more help, just ask
Ha yeah you should! That would be useful I couldn't find any videos which gave the same information as that guide..the guide was helpful, however a video might be beneficial for some newcomers
I know that the original question has long since been answered but I thought it might be pertinent to mention that you can replace an xbox controller thumbstick with one from an official PS2 controller if you happen to have a spare ps2 thumbstick lying around that is oh yeah and not all USB sticks work with the xbox, in fact none of mine did, I'd almost given up on the softmodding before I realised that I could use my PSP with the (otherwise useless) 32mb memory card haha.
Ha a yeah this topic moved slightly away from the original question didn't it I did manage to get the majority of the answers I needed to mod my Xbox from this one thread though..hopefully others will find all the questions and answers here useful too! . And that's amazing that you can just use thumbsticks from another controller like that! I've just picked up a PS2 to add to my collection too however I won't be taking it apart for the sticks any time soon lol
I got my replacement "xbox360" thumbsticks today and took some comparison pics. These are for the controller "s". The thumbsticks I got were simply the cheapest (or thereabouts) off ebay. I did measure the shaft (teehee) thickness and the xbox (ie what was in the control pad) were 0.2mm thicker (9.4mm vs 9.6mm). But since these are just cheap ones off ebay I doubt they have the exact same specs as the genuine xbox360. Also they are shorter and the "cup" isn't as big, but as seen in the pics will still work okey-dokey. Original worn out one on left, new "xbox360" item on right Height and cup size differences In controller, note buttons are missing as these are in process of re-furbishment. Cat-box hole in the background. There is a slight gap around the base of the cup to controller body, but the stick moves around nicely and is not really noticeable.
Nice post! It's good to see what a 360 sick looks like on the s controller for reference if I ever have to replace mine with one . I doesn't look too bad at all does it!
lol! yea it does look ok, I think old mate (who I got these from) must of had acid thumbs! I bought 3 controllers from him and all 3 require work to get back to nice working condition.
What are you doing using such a small weak controller. I've only got the original one at the moment. Jumbo-troller? Good to know you can get new bits for them, the one we have is... old... and dirty! I see what you mean about the girth of those new cups though, just a little off. Looks good though when installed!
The original XBOX controller (when made retail) was the "duke" I have 2 of them and prefer these as they are "man hand" size, just like the chunkiness of them. These controller "S"es'es'es I am re-furbishing as I have an XBOX for my son (just an original non modded one, maybe should get it soft modded for him). Also had to repair one for my nephew.as his dog got to the controller and made a meal of the cord which I replaced.
Duke? Sounds manly! I love the positioning of the black and white buttons too! Right out of the way! Don't mention soft modding around me tonight :grief: Maybe in a week when I've got mine working right :wink-new: Anything that could go wrong, seemed to do exactly that!
