Volume 26 out now on DVD In volume 26 Retro Core goes back to the good old Sega Vs Nintendo days with a Mega Drive Aladdin Vs Super Famicom Aladdin comparison. As well as that we take a look at the Dreamcast Densha De Go controller, more Japanese game adds plus the following games. Dreamcast - Densha De Go 2 Dreamcast - Cosmic Smash Nintendo 64 - City Tour Grandprix Nintendo 64 - Star Soldier Super Famicom - Bio Metal Super Famicom - Golden Fighter S (Shite of the Month) Mega Drive - Midnight Resistance Sharp X68000 - Super Hang On Saturn - Hotoku No Ken Saturn - GT 24 Saturn - Lupin III Super 32X - Virtua Fighter Arcade - Undercover Cops PlayStation - Gunnm (Game of the Month) Neo Geo - Gan Gan Mobile Phone - WonderBoy, Adventure Island, Galaxy Force II, Gradius DX, Gradius II, Kikikaikai and a lovely ninja game from Taito.
I hate to pick at the smallest of details, but wasn't the Dreamcast's maximum resolution 640x480 in contrast to the ever-so-slightly higher 704x480 mode possible on the Saturn?
Oh yeah, you're right. So the Saturn could produce a resolution higher than the DC Nice little bonus for the sysdtem that's more popular now than when it was released  Yakumo
Who said the Saturn was underpowered? On the subject of its highest display mode, I still find it ridiculous that some people had the nerve to criticise such games as Virtua Fighter 2 and Last Bronx just because they lacked a few background details - minor things here and there can easily be forgiven when you consider both were running at nearly double the resolution of their original Model 2 versions! If only the good PR team at Sony Computer Entertainment hadn't clouded most average mainstream gamers' views of the real power contained within Sega's console then perhaps things may have been even more different in the 32-bit hardware market...
Is there anyway to rig a vga cable for saturn so it will display on a monitor usuing its highest resoloution?
I wish there was but as far as I know there isn't. By the way, Retro Core volume 26 is out now on download via the official FTP. The archive.org faster download should be available withing a day. They are having a few problems at the moment with writing files to the download server. Retro Core has been uploaded so now I'm just waiting for archive.org to move it across for people to download. yakumo
The Retro Core 26 archive.org downloads are now available - http://www.archive.org/details/RetroCore_Volume26 Yakumo
Another good show, but I have to disagree with you on Midnight Resistance. I don't like the B control method. The default one is great, since you can point your gun in any direction instantly, then press another button to lock it in that direction. It sounded on your video like you didn't even know about that.
Just finished seeing it. It's quite a good show. I'm not a graphics kind of guy, but that Lupin game didn't look precisely appealing. The game selection was very balanced this time... just nothing very outrageous. The shite game was indeed very shitty, and everything else was interesting. Not a bad show at all.
Hmmmm well when I saw it, I had some serious cool flashbacks to your old shows, and my father, had a Beatles flashback. So a good show indeed And my father enjoyed, when I explained him what you said about the different games. And so forth, since he doesn´t understand English, but if you are telling what he is going to get in yule gift, in English. then you are screwed. But a good show indeed and my father enjoyed it immensely. You have just gotten a 60 year old fan in the mix Thumps up
Vol 26 was the first Retro Core i checked out... it was very entertaining and interesting Do you know that Undercover Cops also has region changes compared to the JAP version? The JAP ver is the best it makes the world version feel like a beta version... and unfortunatly my Undercover Cop PCB is the world version :-( I guess is should try and burn some roms and replace it with the JAP roms.
Good show, enjoyed the aladin segment quite a bit. I can't belive activision butchered that sfc shooter, it makes me wonder if they had that song licensed and needed to do something with it.
Really? I never knew that at all. Just goes to shop that reading instruction books is worth while! Yeah, it is pretty ugly but when you consider how complex the mazes are, Asmik have done a decent job. Wow, he must be the oldest viewer  Glad you enjoyed it but to be honest Volume 26 isn't hat good I thought. Volume 27 will be much better. I never knew about the western version of Under Cover cops being cut from the Japanese version. I'll have to see if I can find a rom of that since it's very unlikely that I'll ever see it over here in an arcade. Yep, Activision did have he official license for the 2Unlimited music but due to their lack of skills it turned out complete shit. Then even put the sound effects on the same channel as the bass line from the music meaning that many times there is no bass in the music due to the explosions sound effects. Yakumo
Retro Core Volume 27 is out now on DVD with the download version coming on December 10th. It was time to put on that long over coat again as I did some undercover filming in what can only be described as an Otaku's paradise. This shop covers everything from character models to games. Unfortunately I couldn't get permission to film in this shop but as if that would stop me (^_^). As well as that feature, from this month Retro Core will have two commercial brakes featuring Japanese game adds from years gone by. Sit back and enjoy Retro Core Volume 27's games reviews a featuring.. Dreamcast - Moero Justice Gakuen Saturn - Cotton Boomerang Saturn - Akumajo Dracula X (Game of the Month) Saturn - Shenmue (What ever happened to...?) Nintendo 64 - Top Gear Overdrivin Nintendo 64 - Super Speed Racing PlayStation - Ciriticom (Shite of the Month) PlayStation - Recipro Heat 5000 Mega Drive - Guardian Heroes Master System - Golivus PC Engine - Knight Rider Special Super Famicom - Super Adventure Island Arcade - Pretty Soldier Sailormoon Yakumo
on the subject of a saturn VGA cable, if there's an RGB cable you can split the HV sync from the DAC chip into seperate channels and make a proper D-terminal VGA (essential RGBHV). The 15khz that interlaced images have though, need a an upscanner
There is no Japanese RBG cable unless you count the Svideo one but you can get Scart cables which are RGB. I used one when I lived in the UK with my white Saturn. Yakumo
Retro Core Volume 27 is out now for download but I suggest that you use the FTP or URL download options over at archive.org because the official FTP will be going on and off line for a week or so. It's off line right now as I right this. Here is a link to the Retro Core 27 page over at archive.org - http://www.archive.org/details/RetroCore_Volume27 Yakumo
