You're a great, great man Yakumo. Can't seem to get enough Retro-Core. While on the subject of arcade games. Would you perhaps ever consider covering some of the more bizarre Japanese arcade quiz adventure games. Such as Gourmet Battle Quiz Ryohirioh CooKing, Dramatic Adventure Quiz Keith & Lucy, Quiz Theater - 3tsu no Monogatari, Quiz H.Q., Quiz Gakumon no Susume, Quiz Daisousa Sen - The Last Count Down, Quiz Chikyu Bouei Gun, Quiz & Dragons, Quiz Meitantei Neo & Geo - Quiz Daisousa Sen part 2, Quiz Quest - Hime to Yuusha no Monogatari, or Quiz King of Fighters to name a few.
You will love Retro Core Vol30 ! Yesterday I filmed a real gamers arcade and a more family oriented arcade to show the difference in styles. Both were independent arcades as well which makes it so much more interesting. The gamers arcade is a real dump but they have the latest games and not just sit down cabs but the BIG ones such as that Namco/Bandai Gundam game where you sit in a pod ! They have 4 of those all inked up. Anyway, some great stuff to see such as Melty Gear, Latest Guilty Gear, some girly fighter based on Guilty Gear (Can't remember the name) Quest for D and other card / RPG type games plus shooters such as Trigger Heart Excleia and Shikigami No Shiro 3. Over 15 minutes of footage Yakumo
Just a heads up to let you know that Retro Core 29 is now available for download at archive.org - http://www.archive.org/details/Retro_Core_Volume_29 Yakumo
Downloading now, It's looking like a very nice line-up. Just one thing though, i seem to remember you reviewing alien crush before in a face off with it's megadrive version.
Well I got my dvd of this show the other day but waited to post impressions till the download came out. First I must say, after watching the dvd it's hard to go back to the download version since the quality is much lower on those due to compression. On another note, when I received the package the dvd itself was well protected by the MC Donald's bag inside, but as I was opening the package I was eating MC DONALD'S!!!!!!!!!! Anyway I must say a very good show. Loved the selection of games and was glad you covered code r as I always considered buying it but never bothered since I never saw what the game looked like in action. In your biohazard 4 review you mention that you didn't understand how the game was censored since you could decapitate heads, but what people online are talking about is when the guy with the sack over his head and has a chainsaw. In the U.S. version if he penetrates Leon's neck it comes clean off and falls to the ground. However it's said that in the japanese version a weird deformation animation is used instead due to japan's raiting system. I found it funny that you used text only for the evil dead review. I'm guessing it was so bad it wasn't worth using your voice to comment on it. I was suprised there was no shite of the month this time, was evil dead the unoffical shite of the month?
nah, that was Devil Crash or Devil Crush which is the follow up. I remember PC Engine fans being really pissed because I preferred the Mega Drive version :110: Now that is very creepy  The only reason I used that plastic bag was because I had ran out of bubble wrap as well  Ah, I see. I've been killed buy that crazy chainsaw nut (isn't there a woman one as well?) but I just dropped to the ground, dead. Yeah, the game is really shit that I just couldn't be bothered. I'd actually forgot about adding Shit of the month on volume 29 so yeah, Evil Dead could be the unofficial one. Yakumo
Great show Hey, I must say I like the new game information music, and I can guess you are using another bite of my favourite game information music song A mate of mine, who I have mentioned before in this thread. Thought it was cool, that you also reviewed pinball games, and then I said to him. That you had reviewed quite a few pinball games through the episodes. But I felt a warm feeling, when you pumped Streets Of Rage remake in since it was me *big smile* who showed that the game was now in full version But keep the commercials to one place, and not between the parts. Since this isn´t a tv channel mate. But I like the historical importance about the game tv commercials. But here is some old news. Jacob Stegelmann, who I compare you with on DR1 who has the show Troldspejlet has just gotten an award for his work with the Amiga computer and all the other old consoles . http://www.dr.dk/presse/article.asp?articleid=24407 But well, if the award ever gets international. Then I think you should have that award, since you do a very fucking good job with Retro Core . Yakumo-sama. Thumps up
Great show with a very nice lineup. I loved the no speech on the evil dead review, it really did it justice.
I prefer the Megadrive version as well, the music is far better, graphic a little bit better as well... PC Engine fans shouldn't be pissed, I'm not, who's got still to date the best shooters (except Thunder Force) and the best Castlevania??? Sabre
Some news on new Retro Cores. Volume 30 will be out on the 10th for all to download. Here's a list of what's on it along with the very poor effort of a cover. Retro Core Vol.30 takes a look at the defences between a real gamers arcade and a family arcade in Japan. Loads of great games shown so defiantly one not to miss. Console games this month include... Card Captor Sakura and Last Hope for the Dreamcast Pilotwings 64 and Extreme G2 for the N64 Hard Drivin' (Shite of the month), Gun Frontier and Quovadis 2 for the Saturn Crying and Gain Ground on the Mega Drive F-Zero GX (game of the month) for the Game Cube Sengoku 2 for the Neo Geo Paperboy on the Master System D2 (What ever happened to...) Panasonic M2 and Ridge Racer Wide Screen for the Moblie Phone That's not all the Retro Core action you'll get in March though. In the later half of the month I'll be releasing the Dreamcast Shooting Special II. I'll let the DVD covers tell you what's going to be featured. Yakumo
I'll send a free copy of the Dreamcast SSII DVD to the first person who can tell me what game is the ship taken from on the cover. Note that the cover of the Dreamcast SSII was put together by myself so looking for a game cover that looks the same won't help The ship is Dreamcast related mind you. POST HERE. PM's won't count. Yakumo
Ohhh, Gain Ground! One of my all time favorite acrade games. I think it's a perfect example of old school 2D fun simplistic, yet challenging games. Anybody can jump right into the game and have fun without having to memorize 30 different commands, powers up, and options. But the farther you progress the more strategy is invovled in picking and choosing which characters are for best for the level you're playing. Perfect game for playing with a bunch of drunk buddies gathered round The Megadrive port was excellent, though I always prefered Gain Ground SX for the PCE-CD. Don't believe it was quite nice looking as the arcade counter part although the excellent redbook audio certainly made up for the lacking graphics. Gun Frontier is also a favorite of mine. I think it's one of the more underrated shooters around. Glad to see you'll be covering the latest crop of DC titles as well. I've been on a bit of DC shooter frenzy with all these new titles being released over the last few months. I know alot of people weren't that wowed with Trigger Heart. My opinion was other than the game being incredibly short, it was pretty nice. Last Hope on the other hand was disappointing, but hey at least it's a new DC game to play around with. Great job as always Yakumo. Thank's for taking the time to create a show that real hardcore gamers can enjoy. The only other online gaming show I ever watch are those pcenginefx shows. They're quite short and not very in depth, although they do feature some cool pc engine related commericals from time to time. To be honest I feel a bit bad about leeching the shows for free. As a poor college student I hardly have the money to afford the bare necessities. Next time I have some spare cash I'd really like to pick up the Saturn shooters specials. The DVD's are very reasonably priced and certainly worth every penny, not even counting the extra's and better vid quality.
Hey, I'm glad you enjoy the shows. It's quite surprising how many people watch them even though they are basically cheap efforts. I used to really like Consolvania but the latest one (Dreamcast Special) spent far too much time pissing about than actually showing games. Shame really because their older shows are really good. Yakumo
For someone producing a show from their home in their own spare time, I'd say you're doing a really nice job. It's kind of cool to go back and watch the older Retro Core's, just to see how much the shows have progressed since then. It's also great to see a gaming show created by someone who is actually knowledgeable and has an actual love for gaming. Not some generic hollywood tv host reading from a teleprompter, who's only there for a pay check. I've never seen Consolvania but the way you describe it sounds alot like what happened to X-Play. Started out as a half way decent show, now it's just those awful hosts making incredibly lame jokes the entire time. If you're lucky maybe you'll get to see 1 or 2 minutes of the actual game they're suppose to be reviewing... The gaming show's on cable tv are utter crap. Retro Core blow's all that junk out of the water if you ask me  BTW, I was reading your review for Dream Studio on the DC over at your site. You mentioned working on a game for it at the time that was shaping up pretty well. Did you ever happen to finish working on it? If so, would you consider featuring a Dream Studio review on Retro Core and giving us a peek at what you were working on sometime?
Yakumo-sama you deserve all the credit, that MetalSlime is saying, alot of gameshows on TV are really junk compared to your show. And you are one man making a show, that I gladly pay for seeing on DVD. And Yakumo, you deserve the sama part, when I write it. Since you are really doing a fine job single handed. The only thing we need is perhaps, a few mates of yours playing some of the games. So we can see some of the two player action in the games. Heck you could always invite GaijinPunch over for a two player action. If he is allowed of course .
