I am not sure. They appear to be one of those titles that just retains a higher price due to the affectionate memories people have of the title. Plus, frankly the Sega Rally series has never been bettered on any console. Some arcade titles don't do well on consoles and I hated Sega Rally on the 360. Even worse (control wise) on the PS3! The new arcade that you pointed out looks lovely, but I suspect you'd get little change out of £5k
Alright, will do Ill probably have a Skype thing with full phone-age, so Ill let you know that when it gets closer (and I purchase the service for that matter hah).
Sega Rally 2 is pretty rare. It also depends whether you want the single player version, the 2 player version or the 4 player version. £800 is very reasonable for a SR2. It's about right for any sit-down driver of the last 10 years or so. The twin one you can get for £3-5k pretty easily. One went at auction 5 years ago for £850, though. I've found one for £2200 if you want it, or a boardset for £350 :110: Oh, found a single player for not much less!
Where are you checking? JNC or some other UK distributor / supplier? There is a company called Videotronics UK, based in Bradford. They sell arcade units by the truck load. The owner has been selling off SR2 for £800 - twin cabinets (albeit heavily used) for several months now. Confusingly he also has a twin for £2300, so I assume this is the deluxe version. No image to assist sadly! JNC could supply a good Sega Rally twin for £1000. Not sure where you are fetching up the £3-5k units from? Got links? Although I am sure there are folks still demanding that kind of money, you'd be better off buying something more up-to-date unless a total enthusiast with money to burn. JNC Bristol: http://www.jnc-sales.co.uk/pdf/weeklystock.pdf Videotronics Bradford: http://arcadegameuk.brinkster.net/ If you are checking USA in particular, the prices are nuts in the States for some reason. I'd have thought that a nation mad on arcade, like the States where there are going to be many more opportunities to own a unit, you'd have seen lower prices, but no!
Lots of places - JNC included! Don't know why I didn't think of Videotronics, though. Yeah, they could supply a Sega Rally twin for a grand, but that's not Sega Rally 2, is it? I could have got a Sega Rally twin for £100. No, their price is £2195, as I mentioned before ;-) Oh wait, that's the 1 player. The twin is a whopping £2950! see following: http://www.jnc-sales.co.uk/pdf/brochure.pdf http://www.findarcademachines.com/product_info.php?products_id=1117 http://www.findarcademachines.com/product_info.php?products_id=1118 http://www.amramusements.com/Janrary 2009.pdf http://www.coinslot.co.uk/assets/3/70/2039_Classified5.pdf Actually, I wasn't including America. I could get them a lot cheaper out there: http://www.thomaspinballinc.com/index.php?productID=210
My Bad - looking at the wrong thing ;-) However, if it's the experience of Sega Rally 2 you are out for, but not bothered about the cabinet then that's actually the same cabinet used by Sega (and others) for a whole heap of titles. So, you could probably go the cheaper route of buying a couple of those cabinets. Mine cost me £300, and I know JNC were supplying them empty for £250. Then obtain the actual motherboards, which I am sure could be purchased as readily as the full arcade unit. You'd just need to ensure that the control mechanisms were compatible, that the harness was fine and that sort of thing. Jeff at Digital Systems Design would be a good starting point. Find him on eBay.
Oh quite. The only problem being that the only boardset I can find is 350 quid!! Videotronics' site wasn't working for me earlier. I see they want £2300 for a complete twin, though. £800 would be a bloody bargain!! hehe. The arcade that was here locally until the other year had a lot of drivers, but no Sega Rally 2. Sega Rally, yes. The sequel seems pretty thin on the ground. Incidentally, what about the Saturn and DC ports? They were pretty decent. The twin Sega Touring Car even had Saturn plastered all over it! OK, not Sega Rally, but same era.
I'll need to dig my Saturn and copy of Sega Rally out, but if I remember rightly I wasn't a big fan of it at the time, however I'll grant you this it was better fun that the PS3 version lol. Never played the DC version, so I have absolutely no opinion - I confess! Sega Touring Cars... skip it and wait a year (1996) and play Scud Race. Much better game!
Oh boy, this truly is old school. The unit is built like a tank and weighs a tonne. The poor lad (barely old enough for a license I thought) and I struggled to get this unit off a pallet (as he'd not been furnished with a pallet lifter - dumb, dumb, dumb!) as the snow fell.
That is one sexy bitch. Other than the problems you stated earlier, it doesn't look like it will be much work to get it nice and clean.
A 19" Hantarex MC900/E It's currently doing this : (Sorry for the heavy breathing, it was really cold in the lock up and I was suffering lol) I've been told it could be the PSU, but I don't have time today to go testing anything. Moved the cabinet for a better view of the barnyard door...
Hmm, MC900 as opposed to MTC900? I seem to recall seeing this before. Ah yeah, there is a description for this fault on an industry database but I don't have access any more. It seems the monitor is telling you something - probably there's a problem with the HT. I would check the PSU first, yes. If that's OK, then I'd test the monitor. The game itself isn't making sound, though? It could very well be the PSU.
Let me check the exact monitor type, I have the manual in the garage. It might have T in it lol. Grantspain (monitor expert on Otaku) seems to point toward the PSU. The next step is tracing every wire, making sure everything is plugged in and nothing is damaged. If the PSU is gone then it's less costly than a fried motherboard or knackered monitor. I hate monitor faults - you smooth one issue out and something else springs up, it's never just been 1 thing on any of the last 3 retro arcades I have fixed. My luck usually isn't that good!
That flashing pattern is definitely the monitor telling you something - I just can't remember what!! If I still had EURAS access, I'd find out for you, but sadly I don't. I'd certainly check the power first, though. Other than that, it could be a "no signal detected" thing, perhaps.
I guess it depends on the actual monitor, but I expected a no signal to be a constant white or blue screen. The transformer is rusty as all hell and caked in grime, so once I clean up the chassis and the electrics I'll get a better idea. I just hope it's something straight forward. Finding a monitor would be easy (if not expensive to ship), but Hang On boards don't turn up all that often. This could turn into a gutting cab exercise awaiting another working unit to show up. Argh!
Why would it be expensive to ship a monitor? Is it not a UK unit? With no disrespect to those in Arcade Otaku, and indeed not knowing what the setup is now, I'll point to my experiences of the KC forums, in the days I frequented it, at least. Firstly, the people there were largely Japanese arcade fans, as opposed to UK/American classics, particularly pre-JAMMA. There were people there with them, but not so many. The majority of users were there for their Japanese games, be it fighters, shmups or whatever, and candy cabs. The other thing I noticed was that there weren't many people who were tech savvy there. I ended up being the one answering tech questions mostly, particularly if it were related to a wooden cab!! I don't know how AO is set up, but I imagine from the site name that it is largely Japanese arcade orientated (no pun intended!). I'm not saying there won't be techies there who can help, far from it, but perhaps it isn't the most likely place to find the help you need. The guy you need to talk to is Outrun (Kev) in Liverpool. Shame there's no SCOTVAC meetings any more, you could have taken it along there, and Kev might have popped up. Do you know Malc, Garfra and MarbleMadness? They organized SCOTVAC. One of them might have some spare parts. Don't worry too much about the cosmetics of the PSU for now, just get it running ;-) heh. Something's telling me the board was wired the same as Out Run, but I can't be sure on that. Don't take my word as gospel and blindly try it!!
