In one of the Kikizo forum I happened to visit, I found a swedish article mentioning Shenmue 1 & 2 possibly being ported to the Wii. Just wondering if anyone else had heard anything and what their thoughts were. Regardless if this news comes to be true, I'm cautiously optimistic about the Shenmue franchise. ;-)In Swedish: "Shenmue är tillbaka!" "Sega har den senaste tiden återlanserat klassiker som Nights,Bass Fishing och House of the Dead. Nu sägs Shenmue stå på tur. Men tro inte att det handlar om ett nytt spel, nej istället är det de båda ursprungliga Shenmue-spelen som försetts med Wiimote-minispel och som nu ska komma till Wii." In English: "Shenmue is back!" "Sega has rereleased classics like Nights,Bass Fishing and House of the Dead lately. Now it's said that Shenmue is next. But don't think that it's about a new game, instead, they're bringing back the two original Shenmue games with extra Wiimote-minigames which will be released for the Wii." On a side note, did anyone happen to notice the recent Sega.com redesign? I think the site looks quite a bit better...
The new Sega.com resign is awesome. So slick, and sexy. I've never had the opportunity to experience Shenmue II after playing the first one on the Dreamcast, so this would make a great buy for me if it becomes true. I hope it is.
1 and 2 together like it was meant to be? I SAY YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a long shot but if sales are good enough maybe will see 3.
Awesome, but they better dont fuck things up with the controls! Better than before, yes, as good as it could? not a chance.
I wouldn't be surprised, since the Wii has been a rather big console for porting older games to. Granted, I would be curious to see if they could fit everything on 1 DVD without any issues.
I look forward to this since I haven't finished Shenmue 1. Too bad the fucking spoiler disc of Shenmue 2 on XBOX has takena toll on the plot for me , in retrospect
Yeah... sounds like that article from their "secret source" in Sega a couple of years back that said "Shenmue III is all coded up, but Sega is waiting to see the winner of the next console war to decide where it goes". So that means, no code at all, basically... unless the entire game was written in middleware a year before the 360 or PS3 was out.
SH3 with the use of previous engines and technology would make a lot of sense, just creating content can be very cheaper and much more bug free!
It depends. The old engine would need to be ported across and modified for the Wii chipset. Then you'd still need to create all the art, audio, story etc. It is the creation of those assets that a large chunk of the cash goes into during development. The coding would not be particularly tough if you were aiming for something like Shenmue 2 on the XBox. The code is obviously portable, since it was converted from the DC already, so a lot of the investigation work has already taken place. In fact, some libraries would have been created or rewritten in that port, so they're probably less hardware dependent. No doubt Sega already has some of those assets created from the past, either left over from Shenmue 1 & 2 or from some aborted development prototypes. A port to the Wii is unexpected but not completely crazy in notion. The Wii has a large installed base, bigger than the DC or XBox. Of course, Microsoft paid Sega to port Shenmue 2, so it would be interesting to see what that license involved. I thought it was some kind of exclusivity, but perhaps that expired. Maybe Sega would want to release Shenmue 1 & 2 to test the waters. Rehashing old games to make a quick bit of money would make sense for them right now. But Shenmue was never really a popular game, and I reckon the release of Shenmue 2 was more a political move by Sega to keep Yu Suzuki happy. Yes, the expense was huge, but this is Sega we are talking about and Suzuki is/was no normal employee. Now adays, who knows. They did release a new NiGHTs. Who could have really predicted that beyond a fan boy what-if dream?
That's the cheapest part. Generally those graphics are all made with external tools. Simply import them, and maybe make tweaks to deal with differences in architecture. It's the coding that's done, but even porting code from a slightly older machine to a current one is usually easier than writing from scratch.
You have to create the stuff though. Obviously this is done with external applications, but you have to actually have those new models, quaint Japanese town mapped and textured etc. For a game like Shenmue, that is no small task. In fact, the problem with games development costs now is related to the art assets. Ask any developer. Edit: oops, for clarity I was refering to Shenmue 3 costs of development, not porting over the old two games. That would be pretty painless and easy, assuming you didn't want a visual upgrade on the Wii over the DC.
They know how to make great pr0n, which according to my religion means they're a very advanced society. Back to shenmue, as I said on that other thread, porting 1 & 2 would be a way to get some of the development money back, but a 3rd one? on a casual-oriented console like the Wii? Not a chance: Shenmue is still one of the most expensive games ever, second only to GTAIV, the difference being that the latter is a blockbuster, while the first a disaster money-wise. The only way I can see shenmue3 being made is as some sort of open-source project with some colaboration from Suzuki-san. And that my friends is still a crazy dream...
First, GameReactor is rather reliable and have had many nice exclusives and early scoops/trails on things. Shenmue 1-2 were on 4 GD-ROMs each on the Dreamcast, not sure how big Shenmue 2 was on the Xbox, but basicly that means the 1:1 data of the original Dreamcast version can be a "max" of 8gb. The Wii supports Dual Layer DVDs of 9gb. Assuming that there's duplicated data, new and improved storage formats and so on... fitting Shenmue 1-2 on a dual layer DVD isn't even a challenge.
When making criticism of a nation's knowledge, you'd be wise to learn how to spell the nationals you're remarking upon. For the sake of information; They sure know how to build cars: http://www.koenigsegg.com/ www.volvo.com Cellphones: http://www.sonyericsson.com The Nobel Prizes are a swedish invention They invented the pace-maker. In terms of games, I can't think of any off the top of my head.
Now that is a car for all to love. The fastest car in the world if I'm not mistaking. The British car show, Top Gear have featured that a few times now. I remember they took it to a track in Germany and got it over 220mph! Nah, Japanese phones still rule.:110: Yakumo
the koenigsegg cars are boring to look at. Very predictable lateral lines along the main body of the car and mixed-match variety headlights without personality. I do love Volvos though, and of course, SAAB!
