Well, I already paid Simon $500 just to get it out of my account, so around $230+ more to go for you guys! ANyone in here capable of burning this game to EPROMS?
oh i would love such a service! not just for this game, but many others too. i'd like to have a real cart of BS F-Zero 2 and many other games!
Why? Just go to tototek and get a flash cart. If you mean "let's make some repros for those who donated", well... ...maybe it's a weird idea, but what if every time this community releases an unreleased, we give the possibility for those who donated to get a limited edition repro-commemorative of the event? Obviously paying what's needed to get the cart after donating for the dump.
Burning EPROMs is probably the easy part. Making a nice label and more importantly soldering and possible rewiring is the hard part. Also, wouldn't FlashROMs be better for repros than EPROMs? I thought I'd heard that EPROMs don't last as long as Flash.
That would be a really good idea, to make Assembler limited cartridges/pressed discs of these game releases. We could hold contests for the label art and such. That would take some cash though.
Pressing discs sounds pricey. Do we even have someone here who could get that done? o.o But I agree it would be a cool idea.
How about just a list of donators in the Readme file that gets zipped up with the ROM? That recognises the people and the group (Assemblergames). An NFO style thing would be cool IMO.
NOW! this is a great idea! i'm sure that far more people would donate, and be more generous in such a case! and also be something like a memento of our assembler releases we already know that we have someone able to burn the eeproms, now the question is: what about the remaining parts of the cart? i remember of a german webpage explaining how to desolder the eeprom from any cheap game (in the range of 0,5euros) and substituting it with a burned one... they even had tutorials for super FX/FX2 games and for games with battery backup ram.... any idea of the feasibility? and costs? i'm sure that the art for the cart/package won't be a problem at all, we have gifted people here
My only issue with that is if someone genuinely wanted to track who I was down they'd have no trouble with just the username. Though it doesn't really matter in this case regardless..I highly doubt anyone would care/bother. Kind of pointless true but just bringing it up. Also all the ideas for carts etc are nice just be careful it doesn't explode into something god awful like Propeller Arena or something. Finally, just a heads up, the expected Clearance date for the donation is the 13th of Feb.
A person who will want to find out who dumped the ROM will find out anyway. Someone who won't care about such info won't even read the .NFO
Just to get back on track, before we get too off topic... Dream, where are we at right now? Should be at least $600 or so, hopefully?
It's certainly doable since I doubt the game is anything odd. Probably just a matter of finding a cartridge type that matches and doing some rewiring and soldering. But the question would be who wants to do it (the work), costs of parts, etc. I might look into building one for myself since I've been thinking about getting a programmer for awhile now. Maybe someone would like to design a cartridge label for such projects? We'd need both a North American and a Japan/PAL type. About an NFO or anything, I don't think we should compile a list of names for that. We will all know who donated here. No one else needs to know.
