Yeah, I need more time with Eagle CAD. I guess I'm just too accustomed to AutoCAD and Solidworks.

That looks great. Can't wait to see the multi out version.

Wow that looks awesome! I've actually been thinking of something similiar to this but using the Wii Multiav out connector instead.

Yeah, finally understood how it's done. Still think the method is far from efficient. Unless I'm not doing it right, one has to constantly align to the origin, change the grid to space your next entity, snap to origin again, change grid, place next entity, rinse and repeat. For someone who primarily uses mechanical design CAD packages for years this method is quite tedious.

Me too! I really want to see how far I take this from an alternative manufacturing perspective.

    Thanks!

Go for it if you have the know how or have the time to learn. Sometimes you just need a project to push you to learn a new skill while getting exactly what you wanted.

This simply looks beautiful and is perfect for the top loading NES. The fact 3D printers can do stuff like this is great. I wish you the best of luck on this project BuffaloWing :)

I'm using the SLS type 3D printing for this. I had it polished and it's really close to the texture of molded ABS plastic. Sure it's not as strong as ABS, but SLS nylon is quite resilient too. I originally thought the creme color will look odd, however it's growing on me. It's a nice contrast between top and the bottom halves of the case.

SNES/N64/GameCube cables are still super easy to find over here, and that's not counting the third-party ones.

    Official RGB cables, not composite.

Thanks for the link. Found something similar for EagleCad. Using DXF should make life easier. As for wii connector, maybe after I figure the original multiout first. They are quite similar.

I really like that concept. Extremely clean and exactly what I've wanted for years.

Can we fit a SCART connector on the back there or is it too wide?

    scart connector is huge.

Wii MultiAV is a better fit - same styling, but cheap as hell cables.

Yeh they are and are a good choice for now. Though SCART could be replaced in a few years for all I know.

Since the Wii scart cables don't have any components in them on the RGB lines, it would work out better in the end for the NESRGB. That and the cables are cheap, as you said.

Either way, I'm looking forward to what comes of this.

I got sidetracked the last few weeks. Anyway, I tweaked the design further. Still need to figure Eagle CAD out...

Post your schematic of the PCB there with dimensions and I or anyone else with Eagle experience will make you the gerber files to have it fabricated.

EDIT: I made a custom part based off of the dimensions from your earlier post and it's a bit rough but fits the dimensions more or less and has the cutout like you have in your design. Once you can give me exact pad dimensions and I can make it fix exact. Top picture is top and bottom is you guessed it... the bottom.

That's great. Let me generate a dimension drawing for you later today. One question, if the board is rectangular ( not a T shape) with a width of 15.5mm, instead of two mounting holes, but just one (3mm in diameter) somewhere in the middle, do you think there is enough room to route all the traces? With one mounting point, both the socket and the PCB could save a little on cost.

Of course there is more than enough room plus I can route traces to the bottom of the board if needed. I need the dimensions of the pin header holes and also their locations in reference to the SMD pins (the long and wide traces) and where ever you want that hole also.
