I loved Otogi I and II, which it looks like you have Otogi I. There's a game called Magatama that is awesome and sort of similar to Otogi, but it's Japanese only. I got almost all the way through it before I couldn't figure out how to beat a certain boss, it was frustrating as I loved the game and up until that point you didn't need any Japanese knowledge to progress, just mash buttons til everything is dead. Great game though, I can't believe they didn't release it outside japan

 

That's the Otogi special pack, I own both Actually the game was released outside of Japan..

Sounds good man, I look forward to it arriving soon. I still have to get a HDAV pack from someone, we only got the S-Video pack here. I had HDAV cables but they had no shielding so lots of interference

Explain this further. Are you saying there are versions of PDO that don't support 480p? Or versions of the Xbox that don't work properly with PDO (to enable 480p)?

 

He probably means PAL versions, since PAL systems (PAL MSdash) doesn't support 480p.

 

Here's a little more about it. Hm, I didn't know that about PAL...it's definitely an NTSC problem.

It's actually not as bad as I thought. Looks like 1.0-1.3 are solid. 1.4-1.5 should be okay but the info seems a little iffy.

 

Hm... so how can you tell which version of Xbox you have? I don't have mine with me at the moment.

 

You can by opening the system, or if you have a 1.6 the screws would be silver.

This is similar issue to Silent Hill 2, it will glitch on the first level on a 1.6 but any other version it will run fine.

 

My main player atm is a 1.6. I haven't played Silent Hill 2 yet, so I haven't seen the glitch. The Thing has the same 480p glitch as PDO on my 1.6.

la-li-lu-le-lo, give that article and all its links a good look. There is someone who claims his HALO special edition won't run PDO in 480p, and I think all of those were 1.2. This fits with my earlier impression that you need 1.0 or 1.1.

*edit, could also indicate rehousing a later unit with a HALO shell, or warranty work to a HALO machine.

Whew, it's a mess! I spotted two people in there with green ones. Those are the 1.2 right? One guy says it won't run, the other says it runs fine.

I remember being very pleased to be done with this type of information clusterf* once I found one that worked haha.

 

Depends on the green, there are two green Halo editions. One is Halo Special Edition, and Halo 2 Special Edition. The other Halo edition system is blue, and released in Canada...
I'll check what version the Halo edition green is now, and get back to you bro. I believe they are 1.1 actually.

EDIT: My Halo Special Edition is a 1.1.

 

Theres a Japanese Halo 1 Edition aswell, thats 1.3, its the same green as the rest of the world but doesn't have the halo silkscreen on the front, they got released a bit later.

Edit: If I am not mistaken crimson skies was allso bundled with it, but it was a long time ago mind you

HEX1G0N, do you have a dedicated NTSC setup? If so, you'll be fine with that one. Good to know it's a 1.1. It gives me something to look for. With the glitch you mentioned and me already finding other games with 480p enabling problems on 1.6, I've been thinking about replacing with another older machine.

 

There is also a non-Halo green set without the text. Canada maybe? I forget the name of the set though.

 

Yup shows just how dissimilar consoles handle certain things.

PAL Xbox stopped 480p in one swoop by just removing the dashboard option.
PAL Gamecube instead had 480p support individually cut from near each and every game who offered it. A much more tedious idea.

 

Wait, Magatama was released outside of Japan? I've never come across anything other than the Japanese version, where was it released? Was it in english?

*edit* I think you must have been referring to Otogi, ha. Yeah I have the US versions of Otogi I & II, I was talking about Magatama as being Japan only. Drihoo is another cool Japan-only game, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Came here to suggest Panzer Dragoon Orta and Phantom Dust. Otogi is also a good choice but I found some parts to be frustrating and eventually gave up. The Xbox is a really underrated system, IMO, not even taking modding into account.

 

Any idea when the various revisions were released? I think I got mine around 2002-2003. Or is there a site somewhere with a listing of the serial numbers together with the hardware revisions?
