Can someone modify this to be run on USB? It would help Slim users.

Install a sata or ata drive on the slim, or just buy a fat ps2 since they're like 15$ at goodwill/etc?

I would if I could, but I can't at the moment. Can someone give an answer on if POPS can be run on USB though?

    heh. good answer.
I've been following this thread and it looks interesting, but until it supports audio tracks (any confirmation one way or another on this?) I'm not really prepared to ditch my ps1 300cd jukebox project.

Interesting stuff though-- what game was this ripped out of in the first place? maybe i glossed over, but it seemed to not be named.

Amazes me it took only four years for someone to do something useful with the decrypted files from Bishi Bash Champ 3 demo...

4 years is a lot for such easy hack. The LDR was public for a while, but who could imagine that getting it to mount unauthorized dumps is as simple as changing the 2nd mount path ? I was messing up with functions, TOC and stuf, ahahah... Do not underestimate the failors of Pony.

Maybe that's why they pulled the plug on it when HDLoader was released - they knew that it was insecure, and that it could lead to people pirating Playstation games as well.

That design makes it suitable for cheaply developing and releasing Playstation classics as the emulator doesn't have to be rebuilt though.

    Ahoy!

I saw a youtube vid with ridge racer 4.
The emu seems to have problems with the popups and sometimes it shows only grids...

Btw. is the audio track prob fixed?

Hi guys, I was looking up info on the POPS/PSone emu for the PSP and it looked like it haves the same CDDA audio tracks error and somehow you can convert it so it plays them, I'm not sure if that's right or wrong.. but I'm sure if someone knows how the PSone games works can fine a way.

I know that the PSP's POPS and this one are lot alike, I got the bios from FW 6.39 (var of pops) to work on it as well... look the same but I know added it. Maybe the CDDA audio tracks compatible can be added from the older PSP var... maybe it can be done.
I'm sure that's why, that emu is just powerful.. made only for one game.. BB3 and the game doesn't save or use any of it compatible.
It haves Memory Card (Saves to HDD), Analog Controller, and Vibration Function compatible.
Full speed, faster load time, Texture Mapping set to Smooth (looks to be like that but I may be wrong), also look to be in 480p and as added bones you can exit the game by doing "Select + Start + L1".
It was too powerful for so little, I'm sure that it was going to have more game... just like the PSP and PS3 today.

Nope. Frame limiting still causes audio stuttering :( . EDIT : Oh, regarding CDDA ? Yep.

If you wasn't aware of :
CDDA tracks need no conversion of any kind.

That's great news, for a little I was looking to see if it needed to be convert somehow. I try one game that uses CDDA, Tetris Plus [SLUS-00338], this game haves like 20 CD tracks on it, but none of them played... maybe it just on this game.. or maybe just a bad img/bin. Thanks for the info.

Honestly, why do we even say that this emulator is "an early POPS emulator"? I know that on the PSP, it is known as the POPS emulator because that was how Sony named it (POPS.PRX).

But when this emulator was ripped out of its encrypted package, I don't think that there were any strings within it that identified it as an early POPS emulator, were there?

For all we know, it could be a totally different emulator from the PSP POPS emulator, although they do the same thing: Emulating the original Playstation through software emulation.

The disc0 header states POPS in little endian somewhere. The disc0 header which is actually the TOC of the RAW dump is a PSAR-like digest. A few similarities with the PSP thing.

At least, no newfag called it "Free PSX HDD Boot":topsy_turvy: ROFL.

are we sure it is software emulation? no chance of a hardware emulation?

Ah, alright. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm quite sure that the MIPS R3000A CPU is software emulated, since the memory map of the Playstation is different from the Playstation 2 EE's.

The peripherals are most likely software-emulated too. Why do I say this? I remember looking at the addresses accessed by this emulator, and I think that I didn't find it accessing any of the IOP peripherals directly. I need to double-check this though.

Not to mention that while the Playstation 2 has peripherals that are similar to the original Playstation's, a number of the peripherals are software emulated (CD/DVD drive, Memory Card interface and GPU).

Anyway, it's not like the peripherals' DMA transfers and interrupt assertions can be received by the EE anyway...

At most, only the SPU and pad interfaces will be hardware emulated, using software translation.

thanks for the detailed answer. i assumed it was software emulation because of graphical glitches etc. but it is still good to confirm. even so, it looks it has a high compability rate. it is such a shame that such a hard effort from sony went to waste, probably due to fear of piracy as you pointed out before.

This doesn't work for me too :(

    PAL PS2 SCPH-30003 with Modbo 760
Boot using FMCB + uLe 4.40h from 400GB HDD
After coping disc0 (BBS demo from your package) do hdd://PP.POPS-00001 and renaming it to MYDUMP.BIN and executing EXECUTE.ELF screen stays black for ever and hdd led on front of console stays on for ever too. I thought that issue may be that my HDD is full (a lot of PS2 games installed) but i've formatted it and still doesn't work :(

    //Edit

I've tried also with disabled modchip - same issue

    File structure:

    HDD://PP.POPS-00001
    disc (dir)
    disc/disc0
    EXECUTE.ELF
    MYDUMP.BIN

    //Edit2

It works! I've formatted HDD once again using WinHIIP using "Partial format" method.

Typical issue when using Zony's LBA28 drivers and LBA48 HDD.
    The emu isn't LBA48 modified.

EDIT : In other terms, no 137GB+ support.
EDIT2 : the __common partition and the emu partitions have to be located within the LBA28 limit
